  • We had a chance to have very first look at the new KTM 790 Adventure R. We were discovering details of the bike for the first time our self so sorry for a bit chaotic video. We plan to do another one and will make it more structured ;-)

    This is the most in depth information about bike yet, thank you so much for sharing! I am waiting on delivery of my 790 ADV R as well, so seeing some more in a video like this helps satiate the anticipation :)

    Easy access to the air filter, without removing the tank, is great. Ground clearance looks very good, width okay. It uses a lot of familiar parts common to other models, but that’s sensible, and helps with parts availability.
    Would have liked to hear it!! Thanks.

    I think the bash plate has lots of room between plate and engine because it has to blend in with the size of the tanks on the sides. Maybe they just wanted everything to line up below but I could be wrong.

    Yes please, design a TwinAir foam filter please - in fact do the same as for the 701, turn the ex-aibox space into an additional tank (or, have a kit that provides storage space). It would be very good to keep that tank as 'reserve': ride the std tank dry, then drop the reserve-liters into it by opening a fuel tap! That way one knows you have XY liters to get to a petrol station, would be great. Oh, don't worry about filler opening access, I'll gladly take the seat off to fill that reserve-tank!
    On this "701-analogue" design, a bashplate with storage (tools, tubes etc) would be ideal... please take the hint! ;-)

    And at least half decent suspension for the user.
    Almost all of the others have walked away from that and offroad - this is a gamechanger.

      We will try to figure that out - but the lines and connection points don't make much sense, especially if we want to make it look "good" but we will keep drawing and trying...

    Great technical review guys. Glad someone is looking at it from a customers POV not a freeloading journalist on a launch beano!! I think the bike is great, but that round top of the tank is very ugly and not very KTMish. I hope you can do something about that, as I would be in the market to sort that out, as it looks quite dated as is. Which is a shame for such a promising machine.

    Too bad I have to wait for mine to get it by Autumn. Will be a long time. As far I know Power Parts will offer a main stand and carbon side covers for the tank. Really great bike and definitely a decendant for famous 950/990 KTM offroad bikes!

    Thanks for the great review! What is the width (length) of the handlebar? Can you compare a distance between the rider's seat and the footpegs on 790 and 1090? It seems quite short on 790 for a long distance trip, isn't it? Thanks!

    Hallo Jungs :-) Ich fahre im Juli mit einer 790 R von Zürich Schweiz über Iran, Pamir Highway usw. nach Bischkek. Eine bessere Frontmaske wäre natürlich der Hammer !!! Mache auch gerne das Versuchskaninchen :-)

      The Husqvarna one is going to be a retro scrambler type machine. I wouldnt bother waiting for that one

      ...that will be interesting what they decide to do with that, assuming they do an internal competing model at all - Husq may get stuck with the 701 for a time, not that this is bad in any way - the 690 powerplant is just plain lovely - could use some gearing adjustments perhaps and a few other improvements but still quite lovely!

    Great video... you guys know your shit! You should be designing/ refining bikes for manufacturers BEFORE they go into production and eliminate some of the bad designs before they hit production! That skid/ bashplate is crap...person who designed that POS should be seriously talked to or tossed out!

    so side stand is still mounted directly to the engine? looking at the frame, they still use tiny assembly headlight mounts which breaks often.

      I don't think they are. As far as i'm aware. Real off road bikes have tubes encase the rim gets bent.

      Depends on what you want to ride more. I got the 701 R/G because I get tendency to get myself into hairy situation while riding solo. And if you need to dig the bike out of a bud hole, walk it down a steep mountain etc. the 701 is much better suited. If you plan to do multiday rides on dirt roads and limited hard terrain the 790 looks like a better choice. I take the 701 to easy single tracks as well

      Depends on where you want to rider - any single track, definitely 701 R/G, dirt roads with a bit of rocks and long HWYs - 790 (not sure yet how much we can do to it)

      Myslím, že s ohledem na kyvnou v. u 790 Výfuk by šel řešit stylem jako u Ducati scrambler desert sled. Možnost montovat kufry k motorce, usetrena váha a těžiště....

      We never rode but from what we know the PR7 is a single cylinder, hand made motorcycle for single trail and hard core off rode riding. Much more closer to the Husqvarna 701 than the 790..
