You've been busy Jon! Thanks for another outstanding review. Class A seems antiquated in this day and age especially with the advancements in AB; G; and of course Class D technology. I guess if you have to have a Class A amp then Krell is a great choice with it's Class A legacy & history. Keep up the great work.
JB - thanks for the encouragement. You just nailed the point I will make in the series end comparison video. I view Class A similar to film photography. When digital cameras came out, the pro photographers were quick to point of the deficiencies which digital advocates claimed to be “approaching” or “as good as” film - but at lower costs and convenience. Eventually, the resolution and speed of digital equaled then surpassed digital removing any downside and now pros all use digital cameras - now including mirrorless ones. As you said - we are about to cross the chasm with amplifiers. Until recently reviews of class D were stating that the sound quality difference was unnoticeable. Now we are seeing measurement reports where the latest class D amplifiers are surpassing the other classes - A, AB and even when a switched mode power supply is used. Even those who don’t care about the weight and heat generation issues can’t ignore better performance! Currently, the really good class D amplifiers that outperform cost more than the AB equivalents and there are less models to choose from. However, as more get introduced, we will have less need for the hot and heavy classes. Their advantage is going away. And the results are going beyond what refinements to Class A can possibly achieve. Jon
thanks for the very good information about the krell Amps
As I mentioned a few moments ago -I am glad that the content was needed. -Jon
