I noticed in the beginning sometimes I would get lazy and sit to cut a few pieces of fabric and I wouldn’t have clean cut and think I needed new blade. Standing up changes the performance of the blade. Works so much better standing. You don’t need or even feel the need to apply crazy pressure Also I store old blades in an old big fat prescription bottle.
I was making a lot of pot holders and cutting a lot of batting and fabric. I kept getting a lot of skipped threads. I changed my blade but there was no improvement and my cutter was purchased only a few months earlier. I started cutting at a different area of my mat and noticed some improvement but it still wasn’t perfect. I noticed little threads stuck in invisible grooves on my mat. I threw the mat in my bathtub and scrubbed it really well with hand soap and warm water. Once dried I noticed no more problems and even my old blade was cutting perfectly. Mats need to be cleaned from time to time.

I got a rotating mat for mothers day! I'm so excited! I need the little grip things under my ruler- I'm a new quilter and find I cant cut far without my ruler moving. I do think part of it is bc I am short and to put pressure on the ruler and cut at the same time I end up pushing on the ruler more from the side than the top as I cut forward. I'd like to try the weight on the end of the ruler, though! Thx for the tips! ~Liz
Use the Dritz mat smoother it will save your mats, I smooth mine in the vertices position first it pulls the fibers out better then I go horizontal. It may pull up the printing depending on how hard your pushing on it. It was nothing I was too upset about

Diane Newman I warped mine with the little pink Oliso iron - it was on a silicon mat, but the mat had holes in it and the heat went thru & started melting it! Soon as I realized, I snatched off the iron & mat and put some heavy books on it while it was still hot; left them there till the mat was completely cold.
