    Watched a video interview of Capt. Peltronen and the knives used by U.S. officers were Randall not Rambo knives !
    Mr. Randall made high end military knives . They ran from $350 to ??? , and had a waiting list of years . Capt. Peltronen was impressed by Randall's design and carried some thoughts from it to create the Sissi Puukko . You and I have the same tastes in knives and Finland is on my bucket list to visit Grizz 🐻.....great job !

      Oh no I have been spreading false information. But I thought that everyone had a Rambo knife in the 80s 😂. Of course I was a kid then, Randall knives look a lot more like something a proper grown up soldier might carry. I didn't know about them, just looked them up and they look really nice. Thanks for watching again Grizz and for educating me about Randall knives.

      @@KuukkeliBushcraft Hollow handled knives took off after Liles creation ! Can't remember off hand , but one was made from one bar of steel . The hollow handle and blade all one piece . There was another Vietnam era hollow handle that was Spanish made which a number of troops carried . I had a Japanese Parker.......novelty !🤣 Grizz 🐻

    1:56, really cool and awesome video angle with the background mate!!!!! This reminded me of my cold steel I recently showed, another knife(yours) with a similar configuration setup! I like it man, always prefer leather myself over anything else too. I get so confused by all the different grinds on knives, it looks really good mate!! I actually have started to respect these rubbery handles a lot more! my meat paws seem to sweat bad and rubber grippy handles work great for me. I do prefer wood though, but the rubber ones provide amazing grip. Awesome review mate, you did a great job as always. Have a great week Tim

      Kind of tactical utility knife just like your SRK. Pretty much the same length, similar thickness with a sheath that you can attach to yourself upside-down while you jump out of a helicopter 😂.

    Great video and well observed on the grind. I see a lot of people describe blades with microbevels as "Scandi" because the rest of the blade fits the profile, but as you rightly point out, that aint the case. Personally I think a full scandi grind is vastly superior, but only practical if you are working close to home. Maintaining a full scandi in the field is almost impossible unless you are packing knife stones, where as touching up a microbevel can be done in minutes with small tools.
    Thanks for the video... I was considering buying one of these and you convinced me.

    • @greekveteran2715
      @greekveteran2715 3 роки тому +1

      That's true! There are not many people, that understand knives as you do. Most people claim the opposite, but what you say is the truth. Scandi grinds are great, especially on wood but you have to remove way more steel, than what you have to remove on a full flat grind or saber flat with those "V" microbevel edges they come with! What's your favorite knife/knives?

    • @TheWtfnonamez
      @TheWtfnonamez 3 роки тому

      @@greekveteran2715 Thank you mate. And yes, you are absolutely right. I think if I was camping for the weekend I would prefer a Scandi, but if I was bugging out I would take a standard knife. As for favourites .... phew there is a question.
      M95Sissipukko is awesome (I got one in the end)
      Moras are superb budget knives (more reliable than many mid range knives)
      Condor Knife and Tools are exceptional 1095 knives. (Got a few, but the Moonshiner is like a wild west chopper and I love it)
      Glock Field Knife (saw back or not, its an exemplary midrange knife that you could dig a trench with, because its THAT tough)
      APO-1 (I know everyone gripes that its AUS-8 but there is logic behind that decision. Its great build quality)
      Yourself?

    Point of fact - most U.S. military personnel don't carry a Rambo-style or size knife...in fact, if you check, most field soldiers usually all have some sort of multi-tool. But a good review. Any thoughts on the shorter (more practical) blade?

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft
      @KuukkeliBushcraft  3 роки тому

      I made a mistake, it was Randall knives not Rambo knives, and I do realise that they probably weren't carried into the feild on a regular basis.
      The smaller version, the M07 I don't own but it appears to be identical in every way other than the size. So lighter easier to control the tip, less good for using like a draw knife for peeling logs ect and all the usual pros and cons of larger vs smaller knife. I think I can guess which you prefer.
      I think they good functional knives.

    This knife has a great design and it is a very capable tool.
    But it has one big problem: The coating!
    Teflon is one of the most toxic artificial materials that simply should not exist!
    It does not belong to nature and also not on blades that will be used for food preparation.
    This highly toxic material has been found even in the milk of polar bears - an ecologic nightmare!
    Everyone who loves nature should avoid this (and other similar materials like Gore Tex!) bullshit!
    There are other options and no one needs a coating on a blade (or the cooking equipment).
    But beside of this - thank you very much for your upload.

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft
      @KuukkeliBushcraft  Рік тому

      I had no idea that Teflon was quite so bad. I know people say its bad for frying pans and such. It definitely would be nice if we could all use a lot less artificial / plastic materials. Really quite hard to avoid as these products are everywhere and so cheap. Packaging is something that always anoys me, there is just no point.

    Hi! I have a few questions for you about the m95. I am French so forgive my English. I already have the terava jaakaripuukko 140, and I love it. However I find this knife is not very versatile and intended especially for woodworking. So here are my questions:
    - Is the m95 more versatile? For the preparation of food and other things that can be asked of a knife?
    - The tip of the m95 isn't too weak?
    - is the m95 much less robust than the terava? Thank you very much !

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft
      @KuukkeliBushcraft  3 роки тому +6

      I see absolutely no flaws in your English. Looks like you speak it better than me. So versatility, to my mind both the M95 and Jääkäripuukko are great for fire prep but for finer woodwork personally I would much prefer something along the lines of a normal puukko (something smaller and more delicate). Saying that I have used the M95 quite a lot at work as a draw knife and it served this function really well. To be honest I haven't found much difference in performance between the two knives. The M95 should work better for food prep having a higher grind. The tip is a little more delicate than on the Jääkäripuukko but in my opinion strong enough for my uses. There is also no way of knowing the thickness of the M95 tang as it does not protrood from the handle like the Jääkäri. They are both very similar in performance, The M95 better for gutting fish, probably food prep and stabbing people (it is a military knife so that was probably a consideration in the design), while the Jääkäri slightly more robust for if you do a lot of battoning and prying. To be honest if you have one of the two it is probably not worth getting the other as they are so similar in form and function.
      Thank you very much for watching and have a great weekend.

The M95 handle is a little thicker maybe (also google; sissipuukko tang, to see how thick it is, thicker than the Terava tang in fact). Otherwise they are almost the same. Plus, I pry chaga from birch trees on a regular basis and have snapped the tips on more than one knife doing it but never on either of these two knives. Not on this knife. This knife has a flat grind on both sides that doesn't run all of the way up to the spine and a secondary bevel. Most I think would call it a sabre grind some would call it a high scandi grind or somwhere between the two. The designer himself calls it a scandi grind but it definitely not the same kind of grind that you have on a Mora knife. Many Finnish knives have similar grinds to this one. I would really call it a sabre grind but I know some people would disagree.

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft
      @KuukkeliBushcraft  2 роки тому

      Most British knives I can think of are full flat grind as were a lot of Finnish knives. To my mind the most Finnish knives have a high grind and rhombic cross section and are quite different to what we would think of as a scandi grind. These are less common nowadays as they are harder to mass produce. More typical nowadays is a high scandi with a micro bevel. The Sissipuukko is more of a sabre grind but the older versions had a full flat grind with a large secondary bevel. As Finns don't consider themselves to be part of Scandinavia why stick to just making knives with a scandi grind?
