Cambodia offers Hunting and Fresh water fishing which might interest people who miss that in the Philippines. Might be worth checking into since it wouldn’t cost your live savings to book a trip to Cambodia for a little recreation time. Just thought I’d throw that in it might help someone.

On cost of living it depends on who you mean. Yes if you’re in your 40s and 50s and not retired yet, moving to the Philippines on 1000 a month is dumb unless you’re a hippy or something. But if you’re retired 1000 will go a lot further in the Philippines (as long as you have savings for emergencies)

Hi Gio, always enjoy your informative videos. As a 13 time visitor to PH, specifically Iligan City, Mindanao, if someone wants a " low cost of living " yes, the opportunity is there but if you want to live as you did in your home western country it will not be as low cost as one might think. Best vacations I have ever had have been in The Philippines.

Why you guys for some reason will not tell other foreigners coming out that foreigners cannot own land. 60/40 is not ownership. They can own a condo 100% percent. Western comes out not interested in knowing the laws or the culture. It’s simple to find other important things that some of guys are willing to share. They can go to GOOGLE put the question in, can foreigners own land in the Philippines. The answer is there. It’s to late when they find out after they put out their money for land a house that doesn’t really own it. Their lady and her family owns it. And depending his relationship with her and the family will decide if he will be kicked out or not. If you are sincerely concerned about their safety and welfare tell them these things. They cannot own land.

And contrary to what most foreigners brlievr... you can NOT rent the lot from your filipina wife.
Such contract would easily be void in a court dispute.
Unless you rented ftom her BEFORE got married.
Meaning the famous 25yr+25yrs lot lease solution... is ppaperthin fragile contracts that could legally be overturned.
Which means she CAN kick you out if divorced.
And even though you may own the actuall house... its not easy to move a house away from a lot.

Not letting Foreigners own land in the Philippines is the best thing for the people, Look at North America, Most young people cant afford to own a house, The Philippines has many poor people where will they live if the housing market doubles, or even higher, in the out laying areas, Many Asian countries are like this. That's what makes them much smarter then many countries, I am not against China , But they own the USA,

Last 5 years were very high inflation period. SP500 doubles every 7 to 10 years so if inflation will continue to double every 5 years the economy would not work. Inflation cannot outgrow growth with a health economy. That's why they are working so hard to finally get inflation under control. I would count on it going back to every 10-20 years

Maybe you could do a video if there's a need to be careful about what food and drink to be careful of, and if it's necessary in established areas such as Cebu or Dumaguete where expats are more common.

Another Great vlog Gio! The one thing I believe is the most important I see, RESPECT the country! You are IN the Philippines and NOT the country you have come from...Stop trying to change the culture to western ways...Yes, the Philippines are beautiful and yes, there is poverty, BUT it's the people that truly make this a beautiful country...I live in the mountains in a province village with my asawa (for 2 years) and see the true culture...It bothers me so many westerners come to the Philippines and try their best to change the people, their partner to be like a western woman...DON'T! That's why many of us LEFT the West because of the women there in the West...At least it is for ME...Just Enjoy the beauty of this country and it's people, remember this 'The essence of life is basics and simplicity...' My quote...smiles Have a Great Day and respect and enjoy the Philippines...Keep bringing these GREAT vlogs out Gio!!! You're the best and tell it like it truly IS!

Don't get me wrong but I know people in the USA who only have a $1,200/month pension and sacrifice every day to barely get buy living with multiple roommates, and no savings. i've looked at enough prices and they could afford the same lifestyle (or slightly better) in parts of the Philippines for 40,000peso/month. Then have about 20-25,000 peso for emergency savings or extras.

The norm in the country is extreme poverty and disgusting and unsanitary conditions. Wild diseased dogs down an alley with shacks on both sides two stories tall shabbily built from scrap metal and bamboo. This is the home for 50 people. Trash so far onto the street that the first lane of the road is closed to traffic. People eating one day old fried chicken on a tiny picnic table right on the road next to extreme noise and toxic fumes from motorcycles. Lots of children with no parents, abandoned, shoeless, dirty from no shower roaming the streets mostly naked and begging for money aggressively. Your working class girl who works a decent job in the city's best mall lives in a 50sqft room in the row of shacks without AC, sometimes without electricity and shares a primitive bathroom with 15 others. This is 90% of the country. It's pitiful and you will not be able to live comfortably among this society. You have to be in extreme isolation to feel normal. These conditions are the norm and this exists right next to the business park in cebu. You cannot comfortably travel anywhere in the country without being inundated with this shocking misery. The Philippines is dramatically poorer than Thailand or Vietnam. It's not anywhere near as nice. You will be in tears while emptying your pockets to anyone and everyone who asks you for money. It's impossible to not be beset with anguish over the poverty. Everyone will ask you for money eventually. Everyone you speak with, people you become acquainted with and everyone you consider a friend will ask you for money regularly. There are zero parks in cebu city, zero. In a country with poor city development there isn't a hectare of nature preserved to be used as a park. There are no quite places. You cannot walk from one shopping area to the next one 500 meters away. It's dangerous and impractical to walk any distance in the city. The Philippines is the most uncomfortable and miserable country you will ever visit. You will get regular food poisoning when at expensive restaurants because the young people didn't grow up with running water, refrigeration or education about food safety. A few months of training on the job at the restaurant is not going to change their perspective that refrigeration is superfluous and unnecessary. Every time i ate i feared violent vomiting and extreme diarrhea followed by 2 weeks to recover from it. Imagine being afraid to eat overpriced food! Salads and vegetables are rare and mostly dangerous to eat. The people are mostly simple and regular mistakes in everyday life make the simplest things difficult. Young girls want to date and bed a foreigner because you are dramatically higher class, better groomed and wealthier than anything they know in life.

      Most are correct.
But some of the text is redicules and downright exagerations.
Sounds like trolling, but most likely got a "faceslap" experience and you got bitter.
But 90% of what you said is true though (to an extent).
Btw you said there is no parks in Cebu (which is untrue), thrn later on explains one of the parks.
      Oh the irony.
But still, its very accurate that theyve done a hopeless design of the city. Cant properly walk between places. Its wildwest crossing streets. Have to group up many people and follow that flow when crossing the street... or risk a game of car bumping.
And in provinces dogs all over the roads. Making driving at times very dangerous.

The one thing I like about your video’s you tel it like it is. Yes there are definitely poor people, We live on $2000 a month but you can have a good life on $ 1500 a month. It’s not as much fun. Everything you said are is spot on. It’s cheaper to live but it’s vary easy to over spend here. I have to watch out. Oh I met my wife on line never being here before I moved here 1 month later and 6 months later got married. Best thing I have ever done

Hey, did you hear about the TV reports saying there's a really intense heatwave going on in Southeast Asia right now, especially in Myanmar and the Philippines, where it's supposed to feel like 45°C (113°F)? They even say kids might be getting a break from school during this heatwave because of health risks for the young and elderly. Is this for real? Is it just certain islands?

good commentary about the last item about working in the philippines. Foreigners think they can top up there close to edge budget with extra income once they get out to the philippines. They will explore or figure it out when they get there. As you mentioned about working in ph but also you tube vlogging when they see you and others making income they think ts easy to do and they can do it. As well as working online remotely. They also consider opening up with GF a small business such as ubiquitous sari sari store, restaurant or bar. Some succeed, most fail with losing all there money.
Yet again a good vid with wise words from your hard won experience.

Good video Gio. One of your best videos ever. Most UA-camrs do a hype about Philippines saying have beautiful all over Philippines but the reality the pretty good girls are a very small % of the population. I know many guys spent more than 5 years there to find a reliable relationship. Better go without much expectations... For example I was thinking Philippines was similar quality like Thailand and was very disappointed how far is phillipines of development in Thailand.

Can foreigners open restaurants in the Philippines?

    • @foreignermakingmoney-phili1458
      @foreignermakingmoney-phili1458 2 місяці тому +8

Generally you will find issues with working on a tourist visa, therefore risk deportation. Common for foreigners to fund there GF or wifes business which could be a restaurant but will all be in her name and she will take it all if you split up. Philippines is a poor country with most filipios with little money to spend anything but cheap food with little profit margins. The other market is the foreigner western food market. food industry is low barrier to entry and popular business in the philippines nearly as common as sari sari stores. crab mentality is common, if the locals see your popular then they will open similiar businesses to yours close by and under cut you out of business with cheaper labour costs. foreigner's having a business in the philippines is fraught with problems and issues. If you never ran a business before then the philippines may not be the best place to start even if it has a low barrier of entry. Common idea for foreigners to have or foreigners fund/ invest in GF/ wife's restaurant, sari sari store or bar. most go bust and foreigner loses all their money. never invest more than your prepared to lose or can walk away from. Its something that needs considerable consideration, research and due diligence. Some work, some are sucessful, most fail and go out of business.
