Hi motorcycle rescuer been subscribed to your self for a while and luv the videos, wanted to get some advise if possible just brought a bit of a barn find suzuki GS 500 sat for 9 years any advise on main things to check please? Keep up the good work mate and main thanks for great content. Ian
@@ianbarclay6449 hi Ian, wow 9 years, the main things will be check that the petrol tank has no rust and flush out the old fuel, clean the carbs well to get rid of any old fuel that has gummed them up. A basic service I.e oil, oil filter and air filter, spark plug check and change if needed. And finally the brakes will need a service including new dot 4 fluid. The bike will need a new battery aswell. I hope this gives you an idea of what to do and please do ask for any advice you want. Thanks
@@motorcyclerescuer o brillaint thanks for the advise, I might very well be back in contact again 😂. I say it's a barn find more dry stored in garage for 9 years with every put on top of it. But to good a deal to miss out on, do the lifters every need a adjusting at all I belive it's on 30k? Many thanks again.
@@ianbarclay6449 you won't need to worry about the clearances yet until its up and running and serviced. They should be fine but we won't know until you hear the engine.
um.. on the exhaust, isn't that thing the sound suppressor that goes into the exit side? Also why didn't you just use a step-down joint so it fit correctly without using all that paste stuff?... Also are you not using the choke on cold start up?
No it's not, it is a step down I was using but I bought the wrong one. I was always using the origins exhaust anyway and only did this to show people the sound and how to do it. So it went back to an ori exhaust. I had 2 anyway. But yes a proper step down would have made life easier. Also these bikes don't sound very god with louder exhausts in my opinion. Thanks for watching and commenting. Please sub if you havnt done so.
If you change the exhaust and put a high flow filter in then it would be best to upjet by 4 on the main jet. It's fairly quick and easy to do. I do them in minutes now. I can't remember what the main jets are now so you may have to check and then order 4 higher. Otherwise it will be running lean which isn't great for the bike. I went back to stock on this in the end.
Aftermarket down pipes? Yes definitely. I can't remember if the original end pipe is a 1 piece. I feel like it was yes. So to put a aftermarket end can on you would cut the old silencer off and weld the new one.
Great couple of vids keep em coming, your long clutch lever is due to the switches and clutch hanger need to switch positions check the parts bike for reference maybe? 👍🏻
I don't think I switched them around mate. It's because the bars are shorter then the originals. I'll order some shorty levers if the bike runs better tomorrow. I think I'm going to put the original exhaust back on it. I'm not keen on the new one. Thanks
I like the look of the new can! Probably right about the upjet though. Shame about the other GS! ...... already sent my entry email let me know if I forgot anything 🤞🏼.
Saw yours already mate. I like the look but can't be bothered messing with jetting. I may put the second original back on tomorrow. Best to be as standard and original as possible with the added bonus of the high rise bars.
motorcycle rescuer : yeah I saw that is a shame but definitely go for the gold ones they looked good against the red. Do you have a link to the chap you get them from?
@@woods146 if you write jakecorb into ebay his page comes up. He's the guy in the video today. He sells the parts. Be sure they fit though as the ones I got today didnt
@@motorcyclerescuer On the left handle bar. At the moment from the outside in, you have it bar grip, then brake lever clamp, then indicator controls. It should be, bar grip, indicator controls, then brake lever clamp :)
Oh I see, I think I only mocked it up at that time. It would have been good to go when I had finished. Its a old vid so I don't remember really lol. Thanks for watching though and hopefully you will enjoy some of the more recent vids.
About to purchase this bike(suzuki gs 2009), it will be my first, it has 26k miles the seller is selling it for 2.4k. Is this a good choice to buy ? I don’t really know about bikes. Thank you
Hi Turbo, its hard to tell really, these are cheap bikes in the UK. The 2009 model was pretty good though and a 600 or 650 engine I believe? Basically do all the checks, make sure it looks clean, tyres are good, chain and sprockets are good and take it for a good 15 to 20 minutes ride before paying for it. If it feels good to you then it will be. Any funny engine noises then don't bother buying, it has to sound smooth. Sorry I'm not more help. Good luck with finding a buying a bike. Suzuki bikes are strong over all.
@@motorcyclerescuer Ahh Yeahh I can imagine!, had the whole time offf, was pretty testing, but come accross your channel right at the beginning, watching ever since!, loving the content!.
Is it possible to drill more holes in the baffle to get a half way house between baffle and straight through or is it not work the effort? Looks good though!
I noticed that there was 1 more option which was to have the baffle in but take a gromit out of it. I will try that tomorrow. If I'm being honest I don't like the new exhaust and am tempted to put the second original back on. I don't want to mess with up jetting and stuff really.

@@motorcyclerescuer thanks for the reply I thought as much, thinking of going cafe racer/ street fighter on mine love your vids 👊🏽
Sounds like a plan mate. They make nice cafes and fighters so worth doing.
Did you break the other GS and if so are the engine bars for sale at all please?
Great video by the way.
Sorry Marc these vids are 3 years old mate so parts are long gone. If it was a recent vid you would have been welcome to them.

Worth the new ones. Old ones are always scratched up lol
Hi, I can see they are both GS 500e but why do they have different stearing handle position. Im confused . 🙏
I put renthal bars on one as its much nicer to ride like that.
Is it possible to get an after-martket to the OEM pattern ?..........and is the OEM silencer welded to the pipe as one system ?

Dude, that lever comes out so far because on the left if the bike the brake lever is the wrong side of the controls.
Not sure what you mean?

Bad carburetor
No, bad engine in the end. I swapped the carbs over from the other bike.
