  • Another noob venture of mine in recent months has been motorcycling!
    This is my first bike and how I felt on it during those first few months...and why I think it's good for other noobs who are looking for that first bike.

    Oil filter - please do change this when you change the oil. Decades ago cars had oil pressure guages and we could see the pressure dropping from Full (like a fuel tank needle guage) to 3/4 at higher revs.
    Over time at tickover the oil pressure dropped from 3/4 to 1/2 as the oil pressure reduced due to the filter getting a bit blocked.
    It's a shame that we don't have oil pressure guages any more. They would actually encourage vehicle owners to get their vehicles serviced.
    So that taught me to change the filter when changing the oil.
    Hope this helps.
    Suzuki GS500F reviewer - very nice review. Very useful. Thank you.

    Just bought a 2005 GS500f for $1600 American. Clean little bike. Comfortable and not too much to handle for a newer rider like myself..I appreciate the content.

    I'm the same, I now ride a Tracer 9gt but I still miss my 2008 GS500F. I stuck with it for 4 years even though I could afford to upgrade, BUT, I'd done the suspension mods & it was an absolute star for handling. It wasn't powerful, but once it was moving I could use everything it had. The suspension mods also improve the way it handles wind & it's a lot less liable to be blown about.

      Ha, yes. I still check the wind conditions before going out on my VFR, but it's certainly more stable than the GS. 20mph winds and I'm staying home, though.

    I dont think I could sell mine. I've been riding for about a decade now, started ninja 500, next a vf700s, then a vf1100s. Then I got the gs. Still have the vf700s, way more powerful and more comfortable, further range and shaft driven so less maintenance but the gs is usually the bike I ride, especially with grip puppy's. Its so slow, but its one the best handling bikes, so simple and cheap to maintain. And a blast in the corners. Mines a naked, with a small windshield, I have no issues with wind up to 25mph. Majority of it is confidence when it comes to the wind. Hold that tank firm, aim and lean. These bikes will lean further than you'd imagine!

    Nice! I am looking for my first bike and came across a 2010 f model in what looks to be near showroom condition with 8k on the clock. It's a lot more than one would expect to pay for one of these, apparently. ($3500 Canadian dollars). I could get an early generation 2 SV650 with 30k for probably the same amount....oh decisions!!! Thanks for the thoughts on your bike, Hope you kept it in the end.

      @@IRQ1Conflict I’m in AB as well. I missed out on that one. (The trouble with living away from a city is that I simply can’t react fast enough) how long ago did you buy yours? Onward with the search!

      It went to a better home with a new noob, ha...but is fondly remembered. :) With some hindsight, I'd say the 650 would be a shout...the GS is one to grow out of (within a year, perhaps). Get a bike to safely grow into.

    This is a great overview of this bike. My one has the clip-on style handle bars. Do the bars you have make a difference ? As, the clip ons are hurting my back. Would it be worth it for me to invest in the higher bars like yours ? Cheers.

    What do you think of the height of the grips? Easy on the wrists - good for sit up riding?

    • @moritz8506
      @moritz8506 2 роки тому

      Yeah its pretty upright. Not like a naked bike but far away from a super sport bike ;)

    • @thechroniclesofnoob1001
      @thechroniclesofnoob1001  2 роки тому

      It's comfortable for the back, compared to my VFR 800 which certainly leans forward and makes me realise my age. Comparatively, the GS is easy on the wrists and you feel quite upright...but it's easy to lean forward and tuck behind the screen to hide from the wind on those motorway cruises. :)
