The other three that we lost - are nothing to be ashamed of. We lost to great teams who were having a multi-year playoff run. The '73 A's were a powerhouse and went on to repeat the next year. The 2000 Yankees were another powerhouse. And Kansas City had lost the WS the year before they beat us and were an excellent and more complete team than us. We could have destroyed everyone in '99 but they didn't have elite pitching - but we did have one of the greatest infields ever. You guys should do a video on that '99 team, asking where does that infield rank all-around with hitting and defense. Piazza catching and mashing, Olerud was a GG level first baseman and could rake with the best of them. Same for Ventura at 3rd and Alfonzo at second. And to this day Rey Ordonez is still the most incredible shortstop I've ever seen with the glove. If he'd been able to hit he'd be in Cooperstown. Thast infield was CRAZY and never gets enough props. The Mets won two World Series before my time and I've only seen them in the World Series once in my lifetime back in 2015 (I was 2 years old during their 2000 World Series run).
The Mets came so close to winning the series in 1973. They were leading 3-2 going into Game 6, but couldn't seal the deal in the next two games. They actually outscored the A's in the Series, 24-21.
Wish you’d mentioned the closest the Mets ever got to a no hitter pre-Johan Santana, when Tom Seaver was two outs away from a perfect game against those same Cubs the Mets were chasing and gave up a hit to a bench player who retired with only 31 career hits
People forget that a couple weeks before the World Series, Bill Buckner said “the dream is you hit a home run to win the game for your team and the nightmares are that you let the winning run score on a ground ball between your legs.” And also in Game 7, when the Mets got the final out, Bill Buckner was on deck...
Too bad you weren't born yet because the 1985 - 1988 teams were the best in Mets history and you would have enjoyed watching them. I started watching the Mets in 1965, so I've endured many bad seasons, but those teams made up for all the losing. It was the 1st time in their history that they were that solid in every area and were envied around the league. Clutch hitting, hitting with power, baserunning, starting and relief pitching, defense. Carter, Ho Jo, Strawberry, Wilson, Gooden, Orosco, Hernandez, etc. Best years to be a Mets Fan. I still don't know how we only won the 86 championship giving the talent those teams had.
I was 10 at the time, started watching the Mets in 1984 and that year & 85 were great too so after 86 Im at a age where I'm thinking the Mets are a dynasty, they gonna be on top forever right? UGGGH
Yeah the Mets have been pretty bad, but their whole division kind of belongs in that conversation when you really think about it... The Phillies have been around since 1883, have only two championships in that time frame and were the first team in the history of pro sports to lose 10,000 games.. The Braves have been around since 1871 and have won only three championships, of which only one happened in ATL. And yeah they won like 15 division titles in a row in the 90's and 00's and had three in their prime HOFers in their rotation but they went 1-4 in World Series in that period... The Expos/Nats have been around since 1969 and just finally won their first title last year after 50 years of existence, plus you know were so bad they were almost contracted and had to leave Montreal... Which leaves us with the Marlins who have two titles since 1993 but have only made the playoffs three times in their existence, only have a handful of winning seasons and are notorious for immediately blowing up their own team after each of their championships. So, with that perspective do the Mets winning two rings and playing in five Series in their 50+ years of existence really that bad?
You forgot to mention that Nolan Ryan was a part of that 1969 Mets team. It was his only World Series ring.

Ehhh, we’ve had terrible luck the rest of the time, we had to get bailed out sometimes
So did the Yanks in '96!
And soooo unlucky in 2015 WS
I remember that there was a reference in the Dick Van Dyke show about how bad the Mets were, just wanted to put that out there.
Namath's NY Jets were also magical
Fun fact, Wally Backmon who was on that team won an independent league title as a manager. Also had a couple of harious elections.😂
The Mets won two World Series before my time and I've only seen them in the World Series once in my lifetime back in 2015 (I was 2 years old during their 2000 World Series run).
Same here man. On the bright side, we’re finally free of the Wilpons so hopefully our fortunes will change with Steve Cohen
I regret not watching sports in 2015. At least I saw that journey after the fact.
Giraffeneck Marc hating the Wilpons?? Would have never guessed it!
That that that Wilpons don't own the Mets I really can't wait to see the Wilpon video
Few more days!
Let’s go Marc!
The MVP in each World Series wore No. 22. It doesn’t look like anyone has that number this year.
Omg my dream video
Mets fan for life
People forget that a couple weeks before the World Series, Bill Buckner said “the dream is you hit a home run to win the game for your team and the nightmares are that you let the winning run score on a ground ball between your legs.” And also in Game 7, when the Mets got the final out, Bill Buckner was on deck...
Management messed it all up. Shudda been a dynasty.
i have been a fan seens 82 i have great stories i can share may be we can a round table to do so
With all the championships the Yankees have they never had a parade like the Mets did in 86!!
I was 10 at the time, started watching the Mets in 1984 and that year & 85 were great too so after 86 Im at a age where I'm thinking the Mets are a dynasty, they gonna be on top forever right? UGGGH
Yes, younger baseball fans you heard correctly the Atlanta Braves were an N.L. West team for decades. I know that was ridiculous, I don't disagree.
Just hearing everything about the 69 Mets is pretty crazy ngl, hopefully I get to see a 3rd winner
See if you can do one for every team
Hope you have a fast recovery!!
1:09 Leicester City winning the English Premier League in 2016?? (5000-1 odds)
