What on earth would a little beautiful vegan woman know about the bliss of a greasy Doner Kebab with loads of chilli sauce after 6+ pints of beer?
Yep Greggs is excellent, and he was like myself a good old Geordie boy, based in Gosforth just outside Newcastle City centre.
Greggs is snack food. Mum feeding her hungry screaming little brats on a couple of sausage rolls ripped apart to shut them up.. Family grabbing a bite at the shopping mall to keep hunger at bay until tea time.. sums it up really
Never heard of Wasabi, Leon or Zizzi's. Never been to a Nando's or Wagamamma. Totally agree about McDonald's and Gregg's. I would always drift towards the local chippy if given a choice.
There are nandos in the states now. Though Poundland did an American turkey and stuffing donut with a typical American food 8yr shelf life and advertised as American's favourite snack
Cannot beat a good ruby murry
Agree with you about Wasabi, always my lunchtime go to in London for their sushi. You missed out EAT which I’d rank lower than Pret and I’d include M&S on the list pretty highly for all their sandwich and lunch options 👍
I've never heard of most of these, some are probably only chains in and around London.
I don't really try new takeaways/fast food so i have a list i'm loyal to which are in order:
1. Subway
2. McDonalds
3. Greggs
4. Dominos Pizza
5. Burger King
6. KFC
I would suggest considering Greggs as a bakers, we don’t have so many chains of bakers now which is a shame. Bakers are best for pasties and coffee as it were. Wagamama is good going and the ramen is very good, I like the chicken one. Pizza is a very simple idea but hard to get right, 4 cheese or pepperoni are a hit. I don’t see why Nando’s is said to be so good when it’s just spicy chicken. You can buy a whole chicken and make it your way for much less, the service can be erratic at times. McDonalds is no longer enjoyable and the portions are almost child size now, everything has been reduced except the price. I guess the child meals could be called fun size but that isn’t fair on the kids. KFC is ok to a point but expensive for what you get, chips are the only thing worth considering from there. Burger King is nothing special and best saved for when you want a late night bite and have been up for 14 hours. I don’t think take away stuff is bad but the way it’s manufactured to be so cheap is not good., everything costs and there’s not just one price we pay. The financial price is one thing but the environmental cost too is important. I don’t mind an occasional Starbucks but it’s once a year or so, the coffee is never bad but not exceptional either. The blueberry muffins are a favourite of mine. I drink lots of coffee at home and enjoy being able to have a different type in the morning or for lunchtime, if you get freshly ground coffee it’s very hard to beat. There’s no right or wrong take away, we should be prepared to cook occasionally and yes it’s hard work if it’s for one but it can be fun to. As a thought have you considered a slow cooker, you can put all the bits in and when you return from work or wherever you have been it’s there all cooked for you. Cooking can be simple and fun too.
I've never been to a Wagamama so will have to give that a try sometime. These are my favourite British fast-food restaurants though some of them no longer have British owners.
1) La Tasca
2) WIMPY
3) Philpotts
4) Zizzi
5) COSTA
6) Crêpeaffaire
7) Frankie & Benny's
8) Chiquito
9) Ask
For the Yankee fast food I would probably say:
1) KFC
2) Subway
3) McDonald's
4) Krispy Kreme
5) Starbucks
6) Burger King
In Australia, I really like Hudson Coffee and in Sydney, there is a cafe called Kasuka (admittedly not a Take Away) but the food is incredible.
Oh I miss Leon’s! Also love Nandos too both so much better than American chains although I did grow up with KFC and Macdonalds. I just found out we have a nandos here in Toronto so will have to go
What on earth is Leon? Never heard of it in my life
Totally agree with Maccas being so low and both your No1 picks
I agree Wagamama. Never been to a Leons but they don't have either on the Isle of Wight where my mother is. I only ever spend a few weeks a year in the UK as I live in Newcastle, NSW but when ever I go up to see my sister in Basingstoke I always look forward to a Wagamama visit.
Looks like they have a Leon at Heathrow. I'll pay it a visit next time I'm there.
Greggs is undoubtedly No 1 and is indeed from the North, founded in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1939 by John Gregg. It kicks pretentious Pret’s ass all day every day, being great for breakfast and lunch and way cheaper. As you can tell I’m a fan of Greggs, but then I’m a Geordie living on the South Coast so it’s a little bit of hyem (home) that always makes me smile.
I got food poisoning the last time I had a sandwich from Greggs which was around 2008 I believe. I have never been back to any of their shops ever since or touched any of their products. I reported them to Health & Safety but they didn't do anything.
Yes Japanese takeaway here brilliant to also australia has gone a bit us on burgers lot of small franchise and stand alone shops
I think that too. Whenever I go to the food court at a shopping centre and find the same boring franchises, I usually decide to wait till I get home and cook something myself.
Macdonalds mac tasty burgers are lovely.
Have you been shopping to Iceland they sell Greggs stuff there really nice
you should change your title to best southern uk fast food, ive never heard of half of this list.
Company called German kebab is the best but I've never heard of pret or Leon but I love nandos KFC dominoes but McDonald's is shite I've never tried Wagamama but from what you've said I'm going to try it as I've passed it quite often
Please show us photos with price for your examples.
Half of these I've never heard of, and most of the others I would rather go hungry than spend my money!
Got to have 5 Guys in there somewhere, but yes agree with most of this 👍👍😋
Mcdonalds food is just short term occupants .... if you're not getting the hint it gives me the shits but a heavy slimy stinking one that takes 5 minutes to wipe off (some people say i over share)
What is Leon? Think you have quite a few London based names on the list. Never heard of Wasabi as a restaurant either.
KFC KFC KFC IS BBBBBBEEEEEESSSSTTTT!
10. Tim hortons
09. Pizza express
08. Starbucks
07. Greggs
06. Burger king
05. Chopstix
04. Pizza hut
03. Byron Burger
02. Wagamamas
01. Frankie and Benneys
About half of these haven’t found their way to Cornwall yet. I’m in two minds as to whether that is good or bad. Greggs tried to open a shop, but had to close as everyone boycotted it.
Working up north, I found that the Cornish pasty has yet to reach Manchester chippies!
Nip over the border to Okehampton, weve got one, lol :-)
Never heard of Leon's
I am 56 years old, born and bred in England i have never had a Nandos or a Gregs, and can't say i have heard of some of the others.
I wouldn't recommend either. I wasn't very impressed with Nando's the only time I ever went to one.
Top British NARCISISTS
Yvette Vibes...
She's up there with the best.
Poundfoods better than Greggs and cheaper. Pizza takeaway you have obviously not tried Oregano pizza chain (takeaway only) better and more authentic than any other pizza.
A bit confused about this list. I've only experienced Wagamama, Nandos, Zizi and Pizza Express as sit down restaurants. Wasn't aware of any of them doing fast food or takeaway? Did they just switch to takeaway at the start of the Pandemic, or have they been doing this for years.
Not heard of Leon or Wasabi - will have to see if they have a place near me. Heard of Pret, but they seem to have nothing in my area (I believe that there are theories that the Gregg's to Pret ratio is the true indicator of how Northern a place is)
For burgers, I think that Burger King outstrip McDonalds with their perfect no salad, no nonsense XL Bacon Double Cheeseburger, but I can understand that this wouldn't appeal to a vegan - I suspect that McDonalds is better than burger king at vegan.
Very fair. Greggs is king!!!
Leon
Wasabi
Never heard of them
Fish&chips is where?
Two places above number 1!
I hate McDonald, Gregg's sausage rolls are good that's about it , good kebab or chippy best
Giving some australia love red rooster especially pineapple fritters chips and fish and chips much better in australia usually fresher fish thinner batter and grilled options kfc sucks found out how they make their gravy truly disgusting red rooster beats kfc on all levels miss good Indian curries in australia exist but have to really search
I am 60 years young and have never had a mcdonalds , i have seen others eating them, and as burgers go they look damn awful.
Congratulations! You are missing nothing.
I helped to launch the first McDonalds in Spain, BCN, near Pl. España some 35 years ago.
Only ever been inside one once, many years ago with a friend.
I had a coffee.
Punto y final.
Yea I was bout to unsub if Gregg's wasn't I the top 5 😂😂
Waiting for comments... Still waiting... 😉
But seriously, nice to see a proper personal top 10, which is about as different from all the others as it could be 😊
Respected mam, No :- 1 healthy foods are your home foods which are either make by mother or father or brothers or sisters or wife or daughters or sons or self because home made foods never send us to visit hospitals and doctors and home foods or healthy with lots of vitamins and proteins with full of energies especially vegetarian foods and I am saying on my own and my family experiences and we are not infected by covid-19 in covid-19 pandemic and not vaccinated till yet today of covid-19 first and second vaccines due to shortage of covid-19 vaccines in our town of India and always heartly thanks to Almighty God and our home made foods.
What stopped you going to a supermarket and buying fresh food to cook at home?
Being muzzled by the State perhaps and having your freedom and rights removed plus the fact it is an unpleasant experience and they constantly make life more difficult for their customers and never stand up to draconian laws.
Lucky husband... you're a cheap date! 😏
I like your fireplace...you didn't paint it did you? 🤪
I am sure that if you lived in the North, Pound Bakery would be your #1. It's cheap and it's, uhmmmm, cheap!
Only good for cakes, steak slice is just gravy and a single gristle lump
Yeah I agree only good for cakes their pie's baguettes cobs and sandwiches are crap
There's a Pond Cafe in Liverpool supposed to be ok but I think I will go to Greggs instead.
Nooooo your doing nandos all wrong if you ask or a coke, what your meant to do is say your drink is just water then take your glass and fill it with coke as many times as you want 🤷🏻♂️ waters free so you dont have to attempt to drink your moneys worth cos you didnt pay in the first place 🤣
Out of your top 10, I been to Macs and KFC. The other 8 is over priced or I never heard off.
Nando’s is South African not British
She clearly talked about and explained that at the start
Clueless. Shocking stuff.
