many years ago when I was a young person I wrote to Oprah and she replied back with a lovely l letter telling me the importance of education that she personally signed in purple ink. I still have it
+Videox222ify: How lucky you are! Keep that letter, scan it and save a copy not only in your e-mail accounts, but on several flash drives as well so you never lose it.
"You are responsible for your life. Whether you are a transexual, whether you are a divorcee, whether you're terminally ill, whether you are possessed by the devil or trying to get the devil out of you, you have control over your life. And it is only when you recognize that, and are willing to be responsible for your life, that you can truly soar. And I believe that it's possible in your lifetime to fly, if you want to."
i love how till this day Oprah still teaches what she taught when she started: be true to yourself. she never lost sight of her purpose. i absolutely admire her.
My goodness... all I can think of when watching this old interview is that God is SOOO good! And thank you, God, for allowing me to live during these years when we have Oprah!
We need her show back. She's the only one that was able to bring the whole country together. We actually talked and listened. This country hasn't had anything like her since .
@@drseafrogFacts !! And not to denigrate any of her accomplishments or her "firsts", but yeah....she did have a bad habit of cutting people off. That was super annoying to me 🙄
She truly is a beacon of the community. I completely agree that you take responsibility for your life. If situations were forced upon you, it wasn't your fault, but how you live your life after that was your prerogative. If she did it- so can you. No excuses, only effort.
Gotta give Oprah credit in the early days, she had all kinds of topics and crazy guests on there, then once she beat out all the competition and became dominant, she calmed it down a bit lol
I really liked Oprah's show when it was this format. As a teen I learned a lot about gay, transgender people, adopted folk, abuse etc from her show. Hated when she went to the more 'New Age/self empowerment' format.I thought her old show was more authentic & interesting.
I loved her old shows because she touched on a lot of topics in a way that increased your awareness on the subject matter rather than exploiting people like the gay community, racism, sexual abuse etc. I appreciate that her show evolved over time with the book clubs and empowering people to be the best version of themselves. It would be nice if she aired her classic shows on OWN for those who appreciated her from the start.
Oprah I hope to one day meet you as well. Blessings, the creator will work it out. JD and Reggie talk show. You are and will be Queen forever, very proud you.
Oprah was originally offered the anchorwoman position at WSB when she left Nashville, but wound up taking a job in Baltimore instead at WJZ-TV. So Monica moved from Louisville to take the position at WSB-TV.
Another person Monica beat for the WSB anchor job was a rising star from Indianapolis who would later go on to Chicago, the "Today" show, and beyond (and has recently succeeded Charles Osgood on CBS' "Sunday Morning"). Her name? *JANE PAULEY!!!!* (By the way...some of the clips were from when Oprah's show was still local in Chicago; when it went national, it got a new open and set, but retained the logo and theme until 1989)
Marsha Creary yes. Oprah was hired by a news director for the anchorwoman position at WSB in Atlanta, but the news director wound up in Baltimore and she moved there instead. Baltimore was a larger city and TV market at the time, so it was a more prestigious position. It looks like it worked out for the both of them though!
@@assaultislove And WJZ was where Oprah first met her BFF Gayle King. Also, being in Baltimore meant close proximity to Washington, DC, then and now a top 10 media market (Atlanta at the time was top 20).
that is amazing videox222ify. you should get in contact with her again. show her the letter, it might just mean something new to her and spark something within this queen of talk
4:01-4:07. Something about the way Oprah squirmed and fidgeted a bit tells me that at the time, Oprah was still embarrassed about crying on national television and also still had not healed from being sexually abused. I saw tears flash briefly in her eyes also. I'm so glad that Oprah slowly healed from her scary, painful childhood throughout the nineties...she sure had lots more crying to do. It was so wonderful of her to help others heal from sexual abuse along with her.

I've been telling people SHE was the one who REALLY brought out women's issues and men bashing. SHE'S the queen of it!!
Oprah was doing The Jerry Springer Show back in the day.
What she said at the end is one of the most honest and useful advice someone can give you.
Smart huuh👍
i love how she used to talk, like singing out the rest of the sentence and stuff.
she my hero.....you go gurl!

You mean Oprah talked. Constantly. Over her guests - even expert guests.

She has learned a lot about abuse.
I think as she grew older, her round expressive face has grown even *more* expressive now at sixty-five.

How does one have control over one's life in they are terminally ill? Isn't there a slight contradiction there?
+Messylin:
No...because even if you are dying, you can choose to die with dignity.
05:08 The interviewer is stating the obvious.
You're a grandmother? I still laugh at that.
