    Ive watched this video 1000 times. It's top 5 for canal videos and I wish you'd come back this season! lol So many 40-50 inch fish. Would enjoy the hell out of a new video.

    revisiting your page after going to the Cape for the first time this year.... I skunked while all around me caught but was a great trip non the less... I kept asking my host for spots like this but wasn't at any of these places... I dreamed of fishing with this scenery Hopefully I'll get to it once I figure out where this it... As always... Thank you very much! Wish I had more time this year to fish and make more videos. But don't be surprised, the fishing at the canal has become more difficult, especially with the increasing number of seals and striper predators. I've fished all ends and almost every curve of the canal. Its all about planning for the next ride, is the best tip I can give you. Before the start of a season, plan out the best tide of each month, then the weeks and days your available to fish. FishOn! FishKing!

    Only 45 minutes from my hometown I used to love the thrill of catching stripers from the canal - on lures. I still fish locally in ponds and lakes in my area but the canal was a special spot where I got to know where to go and when. If you get that info you'll have a fun time!

    Don’t let those Kiwis find out you said that CTS rods were made in Australia haha! This is legitimately one of the best canal fishing videos I’ve seen in terms of editing, quality, your aggressive fish fighting style (proper hook sets, form on point, staying tight), gear choices etc. Couple of tips....despite the fact that you said what gear you were using, most people have the attention span of a bedroom slipper....just list the gear at the beginning of the video on the screen and leave a list in the description.....and not just your rod, reel, line and leader.....everything from your belt, bag, what lures, footwear, casting glove, waders (Dryft Primos 😉, got em, love em). You’ll save a ton of the “what setup is that??” Questions lol....The 5500 Expo is good for 33 pounds of drag for those asking. And I’ve found that 12 pounds of drag seems to be pretty solid in the canal. Once I push past 15 pounds and you factor in the current creating a ton of drag in itself, hooks start to open up (unless 6x or better) wire hangers on the plastic plugs start to shit the bed, and the size of the hole in the fishes mouth drastically increases. It doesn’t sound like much, but If you test it using a proper drag scale you’ll see that 12 pounds will have your rod completely doubled over and no striper is going to be outside your control. Average fishermen at the canal MAYBE run between 6-8 pounds for reference.
    Keep up the good work brother. Glad to see someone put in the effort to make an entertaining, and well put together video!

    then lol .If people seen the shit that we've seen back then .even on the beaches the bait that was around was incredible . There was times when you couldn't even fish the Canal there was so much eel grass from the boats chopping it up .it's all gone I fished the Canal when it was at its best .

    • @fishking694
      @fishking694  4 роки тому

      Hey bud. Vapor trail is a great rod. Perfect for top water plugging and lures. Very strong and lightweight. You have to feel the fish out when reeling them in though, this is a great rod but it doesnt have much of a backbone to force +30lb fish in. If you fish the canal then you know what i mean. I think best comparison would be a century surfmachine or slingshot

    How you like the CTS12'? Is it too soft for striped bass?

    • @fishking694
      @fishking694  3 роки тому

      The cts is one of my favorite rods. I mainly plug or toss swim baits with it, anything 3.5oz easily. I've caught quite a few 30lbers without an issue. IMO the negatives I'd say is it's too soft to jig, and I've caught a few but lost more 35-40lb stripes not being able to turn them in the tide due to the softer backbone.

      @@fishking694 Only once. Had no idea where to go or when. I had the right size rig and recommended lures. But it was mid-October. I was on the land side fishing off of a grate over a small creek that empties into the canal. On the bay side of the Sagamore bridge. Did see a shark, though. LOL. We saw one guy on a bike pass us going toward the Sagamore. Then saw him pop up about 100 yards to our right. In ten minutes he hauled in a fish and was on his way. The canal, I've come to accept, takes a lot of experience.

      Thanks! Are you asking reel drag? Or my line weight?
      For reel drag i think its rated for 20-30 lbs of drag.
      For line weight i use 50lbs but gonna be switching back to 40lbs for the distance

      @@vinhdoan2413 hah oh ok. Yes its a great reel. Im not exactly sure but I'd say 16lbs when setting the hook, more or less. i adjust the drag quite frequently when reeling in a fish, i havent lost any this season yet. Keeping my fingers crossed. Lol
