- The Smart Liftgate or Smart Trunk features are incredibly convenient, but some people have some trouble getting it to work for the first time. In this video, we show you how to properly set up the feature, and use it. We also clear up some confusion on why your trunk may seem to be unlocked while the vehicle is locked.

I just leased a 2020 e Niro. I’m in CA and your videos were extremely helpful. I had a 2016 Kia Soul EV and extended my lease a year waiting for the the 2021. In one of your videos you mentioned that your franchise agreement would not allow you sell to the US, so no chance I was getting a Soul EV. lol.
I leased the e Niro without ever driving it. I like the car, but at 6’2 still trying to find the most comfortable seat position. In the specs the Niro has a little more headroom, but in reality the Soul is better.
The good new is that in the US the EX has all the missing features they took off the Niro EX in your market.
It’s refreshing to find a dealer that embraces the electric market. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing this with me! Yeah, one of the reasons that I like to sit in vehicles and show headroom is because specs are confusing, and can even be a little misleading. I don't fit in the rear seat of a Honda HR-V but I have a lot of headroom in the rear of a Kia Seltos, but the spec sheet says that those two vehicles are similar in rear seat headroom. Hopefully a little adjustment will get you to the exact right spot for you! Enjoy your EV!!
Peter, I have a Kia 2019 Niro EV. When I get out of my car I lock it. With my key fob in my pocket, I go to the back and open the tailgate and grab my bag and close it. It is still locked at that point and I don’t have to lock the car again. This is a great feature and took me a while to discover how this all worked. I wish I had your video back then. 😊
Yeah. It's actually really useful and intuitive, but sometimes I feel like the salespeople maybe don't go over that specific feature well enough when they deliver the car. It's understandable, there is often a lot to review, but we'll keep making these Kia Class videos to try to make everyone's life a little easier. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Thank you. Just bought new telluride and realized i was walking up and it was "unlocked " even though the telluride was locked. So it's the key in my pocket.

Now why didn't I think of that! I have a 2020 Kia Soul EX (USA) and have been having trouble locking the tailgate....or so I thought. Thanks for solving my problem that really wasn't. LOL

How can you disable the smart key's proximity feature such that it doesn't open the car in close proximity and only pressing the buttons or using the manual key inside?
It doesn't "open" the car, it simply allows the vehicle to be unlocked easily.
@@BrantfordKia thanks for the quick reply. That is very true, it doesnt open until you push the button or pull the handle but the wing mirror tends to unfold to show you that you are in range.
I have a Kia Eniro and in my area there have recently been many proximity key car thefts by amplifying the signal next to the car then inside to drive way. I want to stop the car from being opened when near only by physically pushing the button. Thanks
Is there a way to disable the ability to open my trunk while I'm inside the car? I hate the idea of camping in my car and someone just being able to open my trunk, even though I've got the doors locked... Something besides a Faraday bag?

Question on the Soul. What about when it won't open when you have the key nearby? The only way the hatch opens on our soul is if we press and hold the hatch button (which won't work unless the key is out of the ignition) so we have to constantly turn the car off, hold the button, open the hatch. It's quite annoying lmao

why does the remote have a trunk open button if the trunk unlocks with the unlock button? Sorry, im a new Kia Soul ! owner and the owners manual is huge
So the UNLOCK button on the remote unlocks ALL doors, while the TRUNK button unlocks just the trunk. I almost never use that button on hatchbacks without the powered tailgate.

well help. just got a 2023 gt soul. i locked car with smart key and of course the liftgate didnt lock as i had my keys in close proximity. so you say to walk away and wait.but if i want to check it locked am i supposed to put my smart key on the ground 10 feet away?? im 78 all this new fangled stuff is beyond me

Help! 2016 Kia Soul: tailgate door remains locked. Fuse box shows good fuse. Am able to open it from inside with the emergency latch but that's too much acrobatic movements. Can't find anything inside that might unlock it. Thank you
on a 2021 soul ex+ if you don't have the factory fob with you but you do have the aftermarket remote start that will unlock your doors will the tail gate turn on and allow you to open the tailgate when you hit the unlock button. The remote start kit is to be installed by kia . next week.
That's a better question to ask your local dealer. I can't make any promises about an aftermarket remote start. I would assume that the aftermarket system will not replace the Kia fob, but they'll be better equipped to answer for you.

Yes! It may need to be set a little bit differently, but it is absolutely capable of having the user set the height, and it has the Smart Liftgate.

Hi I have the 2021 kia soul with the push button start and a key fob. My question is, The car will only start if my fob is in the car with me...By some unknown chance, while my engine was running and someone jumped in the car and drove away but I have my fob in my pocket, how far will the car go before it shuts off without the fob? If any.
If your fob is in your pocket and car is running the Kia makes a warning tone.

Great question. You do have to be a little careful because there are no sensors to stop it BEFORE it hits an object. If it senses resistance, it will stop, but it does have to contact something.
Anyone know the tiny rubber near the circle outside the kia emblem? Seen a loose peice hanging down just on the left side
Question for the Kia Soul, how does one make the two lights come on which are physically on the liftgate? The ones on either side of the locking latch. I can't seem to find it anywhere in the manual and I'm curious. Thanks!
I believe you're talking about the lights by the license plate, and that's exactly what they're for. They light up the license plate when the headlights are on.

This is the stupidest feature. If you're parked out somewhere and you have valuables in the trunk, you can't go walk away and put your key down and walk back to check the lock. You're supposed to just have faith? So stupid.
Are there anything that you need to do to get the Auto Unlock function to work on my model s soul
Auto Unlock is something that is confusing me. If you can clarify what you mean, I'll probably be able to help better. If you mean the trunk that automatically becomes unlocked with your proximity key in your pocket, that's standard. Also, the driver's door is able to unlock by pressing the button on the door handle. Both of those features are standard if you have the proximity key.
Would the second trick work on the 2022 Kia sportage?
If you have a power-operated tailgate, it should work.
The trunk won't open on my 2011 Kia Soul...is there a manual way to open?
How did you solve this problem? I have a 2016 kia Soul and the tailgate/trunk remains locked.

If you can, I'm not aware of how to do it. I know some other makes have this feature, but we don't.

That's odd. I never have an issue with mine. It's possible that some ice got around the seals, and maybe it's stuck for that reason? Maybe check the seals and make sure there's no damage on them that could be causing an issue.
Waaaaaaaaaaaay too much nonsense to deal with. Stupid system. Less is more for Christ's sake..
It's possible that you don't need these systems, but some other people like them. I'm not sure that this is the place to complain. I didn't design the cars, I'm just explaining how they work.
My wife has a proximity switch - the closer she is too me the more she irritates me.

These cars are set up so that a tap on the driver's door button will unlock just the driver's door as your hand is on the door handle. So you can do exactly as you say. Side note... where do you live that you haven't got 10 seconds to open your trunk without getting carjacked or mugged??? Sounds scary!
