My 2021 TELLURIDE is like learning a new computer program!!! It can be frustrating at times but once you figure it out, it all starts to make sense. Having these classes really helps, thanks.
I bought a used 2020 Kia soul GT line. These safety features are beyond excellent. Yesterday I went to move to the lane next to me without my turn signal on and the car ACTIVELY put me back in the current lane. It surprised me but I loved it. This car is always looking out for my safety. And I use my turn signals a lot more now. 😂You’ve done a fantastic job and as you know the GT line from 2020 is awesome but I won’t go on here with the compliments now. Great job KIA! This car is just plain fantastic. And the mileage is great too.
Great explanation. Owners manual was useless in this case but now it's all clear for me. I use lane keep assist on highways and it works surprisingly well.
LKA vs LFA is a bit clearer now. Worth a second viewing. Thank you. I have LKA in the 2019 Niro EV SX Touring. First car I owned with it. Blind spot warning is a good feature to have too.
Thank you so much Peter. I’ve brand new Kia Sportage and I was confused untill watching this video. I didn’t know that lane assist works above 60 km, ı thouhgt there was somthing wrong at my car🙏
Thanks for explaining clearly: KIA videos left me confused between LKA and LFA. Reminds me as a kid in the 70's, my GrandPa followed the right lane marker off the highway onto an exit in West Va at 70 mph ! Needless to say, I drove the rest of that trip. Let's hope LFA doesn't do that to me.
Super useful thank you 🙏. I’ve been trying to get my head round the features on my 2023 Sportage - it’s super useful but can seem a little weird at times. Now I understand clearly the difference and the speed on/off action for the one feature that helps a lot. Love my hybrid Sportage.
Thank you so much! My mom just bought a new Seltos. I was helping her get it set up and we were both confused. Especially as I couldn't seem to find it anywhere in the manuals. Have a much better understanding of the two functions. Cheers!
Kia absolutely has the best LFA LKA system ever, in most vehicles i've used it bounces you back and forth like a ping pong ball. Honda is probably second best execution, unfortunately i'm so used to it now when I drive my Ram that doesn't have it I miss it sorely.
Correct. Just got a 2022 Telluride and my wife didn’t touch the gas or brake for over 100 miles with limited steering wheel input too. All of the systems work seamlessly together.
My 2020 Kia e Niro has both systems but I thought that the lane follow assist worked only when using the adaptive cruise control. Now you have got me thinking so will check to see how the car is set up. Thanks for the classes keep them coming because technically is moving at such a pace and it’s nice when it is explained by yourself.
Just took my new 2022 Telluride on a 1000 mile trip and love this feature! Love my new ride! Thanks for these vids! This is a very informative and amazing channel.
2021 seltos has and I love it. I also love the adaptive cruise I do lots of highway driving and it's the best feature couple it up with the assists and it's a dream car.
I agree with you completely. Sometimes I talk about these features and I don't think people realize how much I LOVE these features myself. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you I didn't know the difference for my 2021 Seltos EX. Now I know the difference. It is a great feature for the LFA. I like how it keeps me in the lane. I actually put both features on when on highway though.
This was so helpful thank you! I use adaptive hand controls (and so only steer with one hand as the other is controlling gas/brake) so understanding and being able to use these features on my new kia will help take the strain off my arm 😊
Thanks for this! I had a 22 Sienna with Lane Keep Assist which actively centered me and I could drive with no hands. I bought a 22 Prius with Lane Trace Assist and it is as you described and completely ineffective. The nudge back often doesn't work and even a slight bend in the road and you're immediately going off road with little or no correction. The Lane Keep feature on my Sienna and 23 Outback will work indefinitely if you velcro a one pound weight to the steering wheel at 9 or 3 o'clock to mimic your hand providing counter steer. I do this keeping my arm nearby just in case. Profoundly lowers arm fatigue on long trips.
Great and helpful video. I have the 2021 Sorento. My only issues with these features are when they put that snowmelt on the roads(here in the US) it confuses the system thinking it’s road lines. And every time it snows, the front camera gets covered up so the front collision warning shuts down. They should have installed a washer for it.
So what you're describing is the front RADAR plate being blocked by ice, not the camera. The camera is in the windshield, but the error message shows up when the radar plate gets covered in slush. If you wipe it off and re-start the car, it will reset itself and work. Fair point though!
Great video! One qestion I had is since the LFA uses the car in front of me as a marker, how does it work when there is lane marker. but there is no car ahead of me and I'm driving under 60mph? Does it also "see" the lanes like LKA do? Also as you mentioned, the LKA "bounce you from one lane to the other", how is it different from lane departure warning?
I have had my 2022 Kia Sorento for a year now and never noticed the Lane Follow Assist button on my steering wheel till yesterday. Lol! Thank you so much for this great explanation it really helped me. Now I want to know what is that other button that’s next to it. Going to go check your other videos to see if I can find it. 😊
I hate the Keep Assist correcting my steering in the winter months...it wants to correct when I am on icy roads! I need completed control then. How do I keep the beeps but shut off the auto-correct on the steering? I have a 2023 Sportage
Thanks Peter. Wife & I are still wading through the inch thick owner’s book. Our local JC does not have a Car Controls 101 course. In my 70s - this is fun (ha ha).
Awesome! I'm glad this helped! Thanks for watching! We'll have a lot more of these Kia/Hyundai Classes in the coming weeks or months, so feel free to subscribe if you think they'll be helpful!
Hey Peter, Thank you for this explanation. I was already disappointed by the LKS, but now I know to activate the LFA also. I can imagine that for skeptical people it might be handy to have the LKS/LFA functionality seperated.
@@BrantfordKia Now I drove some miles with the LFA activated. Its done really nice, you did a very good Job there. Is it possible to enable the LFA as default on startup?
Thanks Peter, I just got a Kia Stinger 2022 and in the booklet those 2 systems were not well explained and it was confusing. You made it very clear in this j one. Thanks so much. Always great info, Marco.
Very good explanation thanks for the video. I do have a question In the Kia vehicles is the adaptive cruise control , and the lane follow assist different systems? Ie You can turn each one separately on its own? I own a Nissan and with their pro pilot assist both are turned on with one button.
I just got a 2018 Kia Rio Platinum. I do not however have a menu for lane safety and my Kia only warns me when I am about to cross the line of the lane. This means that I do not have an active lane keep assist in my car installed, only the lane departure warning, correct? Thank you very much for your answer!
Took me a bit to figure these out, as the dealer I bought from in Maryland was of no help. I've found that the 'lane following assist' is great for long trips, as it definitely helps you expend less effort, thus making you less tired. It will allow you to drift from time-to-time, so you still need to actively drive the car, but is a definite 'assist'. For the 'lane keep assist', I do not like it budging me over, but I do like the beep warning, so I turned off the budge option and have mine just give the alarm. This is in a 2021 Seltos. Thanks for the explanation.
My 2021 UK custom XCeed tends to struggle in my area with rural roads often without marking or odd lines on the road including single track with passing places. I'm still undecided whether I want to keep it on or not because when it works i can feel how helpful it is but a few times on my journey it will disagree with my driving line even though I'm taking the safest position on the road. I'm interested to know also just how effective the Forward safety assist on these are. I feel like it doesn't warn me soon enough to autobrake or let me react, however I don't really have a way to test this properly. Any info on the Forward assist function would be good. Great video thanks
Thank you for the info, never gave it a chance with my 2021 Seltos, but will give it a go with my 2024 Seltos. Easier to listen to you than figure out that manual it came with.
I have a '22 Stinger GT 2 & the LKA button on the dash, down by the fuel door/hatch release doesn't do anything. I have them on the wheel also & those do function correctly, is the button on the dash supposed to be non-functional?
Very noce explanation. Now if I can just figure out why my Valet alert warning keeps coming on even though I used the pin number to turn it on. So annoying!
I just purchased a 2023 EV6 GT-Line and I can see how to turn on the lane keep assist and it stays on, but I can't figure out how to turn on the Lane Follow Assist and keep it on. I have to press the button every time I start the vehicle. If I press and hold the button it naturally just turns off the LKA press and hold it again and the LKA is back on. Would really love to keep them both on, like I have it in my 2020 Niro EV EX.
My problem with the lane assist is when the line on the right hand side of the road veers to the right where there is a turn off to a side street or road, the car wants to steer in that direction. Turning it off is the only option. And it's more than just a little dangerous. BTW, my car is a 2020 Forte GT line.
Agreed with this. Would be nice if it followed the left lane marker by default. Also... how hard is it to beep at us when LFA disables. God knows the car beeps at us for everything else!
Hows it going my man, how do I get the blind spot monitoring working off my turn signals on my dash, On my 22 Kia Sorento hybrid Ex doesn't give me the option, please help my man
LFA needs to make an audible noise when turning off. A light chime would do. It’s soo dangerous if you so happen to take your hands off the wheel. And it turns off. Thankfully it’s only happened once. But it scary. 2:21
Hi Peter. I live in northern Minnesota and have a 2021 Aruba green X-Line which is the top trim here in the States. There is a big learning curve on these vehicles and your videos help a lot. I am surprised at all the differences between the Canadian and USA trims.
I’ve the 2020/21 Kia E Niro 4+ 🇬🇧 that the top of the range model I don’t have the button you mentioned on the steering wheel, I do have the button on the in our case 🇬🇧 right side of the driver on the dash does that mean that both LKA & LFA are together. I think I can turn the two off or on in the driver preference with the buttons on the steering wheel. However thanks for the explanation as I did wonder what the difference was between the two.
You have Lane Keeping Assist which can be set to ACTIVE assist in your menus in the dash. It's not quite as precise as Lane Follow Assist which is the button on the steering wheel.
This is really helpful Peter even though I already know how my kia LFA and LKA systems work. Could you possibly do a future video explaining how Highway Driving assist works ? I've never used it and don't even know how to enable it or on what highways it works on.
I do plan to do a video on Highway Drive Assist, but I'll probably wait until nicer weather. I may need to get some in-car shots while driving to make that video.
@@BrantfordKia Yeah good point ! Weather's not the greatest across Ontario at the moment. It's been really snowy, the car probably won't won't pickup the lane markers.
Interesting to see that Kia has evolved the system somewhat. My 2018 Honda Accord Touring 2.0T has all these features; the LKAS (Lane Keep Assist System) and the adaptive cruise are all tied together through the same camera/radar system. Unfortunately, as I have discovered from living here in Colorado, snow is the system's archenemy. Snow/ice buildup on the radar square at the bottom of the front fascia/grille area is inevitable but understandable; there was simply nowhere else to physically locate the millimeter-wave radar and keep it out of the way. But when the snow builds up on the radar, the entire cruise control is disabled and it throws an error message on the multifunction display on the dash. The Honda LKAS does "rock" me back and forth a bit, but only after being turned on. It will "hunt" for the edges of the lane, but then when it finds them, it settles down. The process takes just a few minutes. My particular model year has had some programming glitches that cause the adaptive cruise to fail out in traffic. At random times under random situations, the adaptive cruise simply quits and throws an error message on the dash. It's an infrequent glitch in the system, and Honda can't figure it out.
Thanks for the comments - I've had snow build up here too, which causes the system to not turn on. Most days the roads are clear here (after snow removal) so it's only during snow storms that it struggles.
Great video… As you are on the subject referring to the camera in front of the mirror, I’m baffled as to why they or we cannot connect this camara to a recording device and save us the hassle installing one!!
I believe that lane assist is one the most dangerous items fitted to modern cars. I do most of my driving on small country roads & I'm convinced that it will cause serious injury to pedestrians. We should be able to disable it by default.
Oh, I absolutely agree - - I had my first experience with it tonight and if somebody’s working on something on the side of the road, I like to give them a wide berth, but I had to absolutely wrestle the wheel and realized oh I have to notify the car and turn the left blinker on to give somebody a wide birth on my right if they’re on the shoulder
If you have the k5 the button is to the left of the steering wheel next to two other buttons. It’s the middle one and then there’s on your steering wheel shaped like two thirds of a triangle
Hi Peter ,nice informative video. I am wondering when any of those features on ,can I steer left or right to avoid sudden possible collusion ?? Can I override the assist system ?
Great questions. Steering past the system just feels like driving over a slight hump on the road. You can also turn the system off completely, but signaling your lane change also de-activates the system while you signal. When I use this on my car, if I ever have to cross the lane marker, I just signal my lane change.
I am slightly confused. At 3:00 and 3:55 you point to the same button for two separate functions. Was this a mistake or am I misunderstanding? It seems like you are pointing to the left button and saying they it controls both lane keep and lane follow. Thanks!
Gosh Peter. You should have made 2 seperate videos on this. Part 1 Before 2021 and Part 2 the latest Re-modeled Kia technology. Make no mistake you have put in a great effort but its mind boggling
Yeah, there's a lot of mind boggling tech in our new vehicles. I was talking with the salespeople here the other day, and I think what's going to happen is you're going to see vehicles start to be treated like smart phones. People will set up the vehicle in one way for themselves, and another way for another driver. The vehicles will be capable of doing 100 things, and we'll all only use 20 features, but which 20 we use may vary between us. That's why it's nice to see that they're setting up "profiles" on the software. You can share the vehicle with someone and with one tap, get all the safety and technology features that you want, while the second driver can do the same.
Thanks for the explanation! IDK if its still relevant for 2021 Kia cars but it would be great if in my Niro HEV 2020 the LFA button could toggle the LKA when Active Cruise Control is active xD I got surprised when it didn't! Sometimes the roadworks and temporary line marks on the road can throw the system off and all I want is the part of ACC keeping the distance from the car in front of me. Your point about people not even trying out the systems is spot on :) I don't get when others complain about the system jerking the wheel - I found the force is pretty low and easy to counter, since - You know, the driver is supposed to keep the hands on the wheel, preferably with at least some grip
Hi Peter. If I understand things correctly... in the latest (i.e. 2021+ model-year) Kia and Hyundai vehicles, the principle setting for LKA is carried out in the 'Driver Assistance>Lane Safety' sub-category item in the Settings menu. Turning LKA on or off is accomplished by pressing and holding the 'Lane Keeping Assist' button (on right side of steering wheel) when the engine is on. If the engine is restarted, LKA will maintain the last setting. To turn LFA on or off you use the same 'Lane Keeping Assist' button on the steering wheel, but instead of holding the button down you simply press it briefly and release it. It's not clear to me yet whether LFA will maintain the last setting after a restart, or if it requires a new activation after each new engine restart. Perhaps you can clear this up? Thanks, Richard
Some of what you're explaining is a little different than what I've learned, but as I understand you do have to activate the LFA each time that you get in.
@@BrantfordKia Mine was on every time I started the car until I turned it off once during rain. Now it has to be turned on every time I start the car. This a 2022 Forte.
I just got Elantra 2023 and was trying the same feature. I have both button enabled however, when both icons are green, after few seconds (3 - 5 seconds) car is giving ping pong effect. Right to left and left to right. I have to manually take control and put it back in center. Can you help if this is the case and how the system should work?
If you have LFA (green steering wheel) it should keep you centered in the middle of the lane, with minimal response from you. The LKA (green light with two lines) would give you the "ping pong" effect, as it just keeps you in between the lanes, but doesn't center you. I hope that helps.
@@danishayub3988 That's the approach I've been using since I just got my 2024 Seltos last month. I actually didn't like LKA, and even less in the winter on icy roads, so I just turned it off, and now just use LFA on occasions.
For LFA, does cruise control need to be engaged? Does it work well at night? Must it be reset every time you start the car? Will it work in the right lane? Let's say I'm going down a secondary highway at 1am, one lane in each direction. Speed limit 40. Double lines to your left, no lines to your right. No car ahead of me. But there's a cop on my tail, waiting for me to hit the line. I'm nervous, hit the line, get pulled over for being all over the road. Is LFA any use for the above, or do I instead need a tighter handling vehicle? I ask these questions as a professional driver who travels at least 60k per year, mostly delivering pharmaceuticals overnight. My skepticism is that LFA will work when I'm fine among other cars on the interstate in daylight, not when I'm being followed at 1am. Any good news to be had?
Wow, that's a lot of questions. Lane Follow Assist does not need Cruise control to be active to work. It does work at night, and it does work in many driving situations, even if there is a weak lane marker to the right of the road. You always know when it's active, because there is a light that looks like a steering wheel that shows up in the instrument cluster when the system is active. If that light is GREEN, then the vehicle is actively steering the vehicle, if it's WHITE, it's on, but not steering. It's very unobtrusive. Given your description of a fear of being pulled over, and a self described delivery person who deals with pharmaceutical deliveries purely at night... it sounds like you're a drug dealer shipping drugs in dark places... I'm not going to judge your career choice, but I will say that this system should prevent you from attracting attention from the authorities if it's used correctly, and it will work very well on less than ideal roads. Stay safe out there! :)
With the 2021 Sorento could you go over the voice controls for the physical things in the vehicle like temperature windows, etc. I didn’t know you can control things just with the UVO voice.
Hey Peter, I have a 2021 Kia Niro PHEV which has Lane Following Assist. Is that the same as Lane Follow Assist? That button is not on my steeling wheel.
Basically... yes. My Kia Soul EV has the same feature, and it works similarly, but the one with the button also works below 60 km an hour, and its essentially a little more precise. The EV's and PHEV's get a system that is, sort of, between generations.
Will cars with this and with active cruise control automatically brake to avoid a collision, no matter what system is active or what speed? It took me a while to figure out that in my 2019 Niro, lane keep is inactive at low speeds under 60 km/h. What would be nice at any speed, is lane pothole avoidance!!
So, anything with forward collision avoidance, or autonomous emergency braking (whatever people want to call it) When I describe that system, I'm always careful to say that the system is "CAPABLE of stopping the vehicle to avoid a collision." I can't guarantee that it WILL stop, but yes, anything with lane keeping has some level of collision avoidance technology.
Good night Pete! Thank you finally someone able to explain what Lane keep assist means how important to know of that manual button to push on your console because there for a while I was getting ready to take my vehicle back 2021 Sportage and tell him it's not working well, even though my LKA was on I was not getting any correction because I didn't manually push the button Thanks for helping me I'm going to try this today and more than likely I'm keeping my car.
We don't have that model here, so I can't be sure. It shouldn't swerve around with either system. I would expect that you'll find that it does a pretty good job of holding you centred in the lane. Lane Follow Assist is the most precise system. If you have that, I think you'll be happy.
The feature you're describing is Smart Cruise Control, and that's not on any Rio that I've driven (I'll have to check my specs for the top spec 2022 model)
Thanks for a good explanation, I will try this when I get the opportunity. Do either lane keep or lane follow assist need to be activated to be in cruise mode? Some feature seems to take corners early, so early the warning sounds.
Great video and explanation on how LKA and LFA were separated and how they both work. Cleared up some questions. I still have one left unanswered, though. I saw a couple of people had asked about this, but months ago when there was no concrete answer. I would love to be able to have LFA on every time I start my car. The manual for my 22 Forte GT Line says that if you enable LFA using the button on the steering wheel, then it will not resume after the car is restarted but goes on to say that if instead you turn on LFA using the system settings then it will. However there is no setting for LFA enabled or disabled in my setup, just for the LKA. Do you have any new updated information about this?
I don't expect this to be updated anytime soon. I'm guessing the feeling is, because the Lane Follow Assist can be active at any speed, that they don't want someone getting in the car and have the vehicle to start steering for itself, and have an unfamiliar driver not know what to do. I'm guessing they want the driver to actively push the button if the car is going to be steering for itself at slow speeds? I don't know, but that's my guess.
@@BrantfordKia That theory makes sense. I didn't realize it worked at any speed. I would prefer it work only 40 mph and above and be on when starting the car. I also wonder why it said what it did in the manual.
@@BrantfordKia I just started going through the main car manual, so I don't know if it's in that or not. What I saw it in was one of the smaller manuals / pamphlets. Probably the one going over the car features.
Hi. peter. I have the new Sorento Phev. I tried to inactivate the LFA (icon with the car and lanes) but it gets activated next time I turn on my car. Is it supposed to be like this or is it a defect?
I haven't seen that specific car yet, because it's not available in Canada. If you're talking about the Lane KEEPING assist (the icon with the car between lanes) in the cars that I am familiar with, if you turn it off, it stays off. There may be a setting in the menus to turn it on or off as well, but that's how I understand it on the cars that we have.
Does it work only momentarily ? (for Ex:, Sienna 8 secs later wants you to place your hands on the steering wheel) Or will it keep you centered in your lane without asking you to place your hands on the steering wheel? Also how about stop and go heavy traffic conditions? Thanks
New 2021 Seltos EX (USA/Texas) - So far I've just tested and recommended the Lane FOLLOW Assist to my wife but have not done much real driving with it. So she tried LFA yesterday (solo) and said it worked great UNTIL approaching an Exit Ramp where it would follow only the Right stripe and therefore begin exiting - more than once! She can't be the first time someone has experienced this and our area can't have the only freeways without a line separating the exit from the main lane. Is it possible our new car didn't get the latest update in the dealer prep? What say @Kia Hyundai Channel?
So the system only RESISTS the driver if they try to cross over a lane marker. You can easily steer past this. What you're describing is a lane that essentially widens, and the car favors the right side (in your case). If the lane widens, there will be no resistance at all by keeping the car towards the left side markers instead of the right side. The system isn't designed to make steering DECISIONS for you, so if the car begins to follow the line on the right hand side, you simply need to steer the car back (as you would in a regular car) to keep it choosing the way that you want to go. One thing to understand with this system is that it is usually just following lane markers, and only resists you when you cross them. So if the driver steers like normal, it should feel like normal. The only time you should feel the car actually resisting, is if the car is drifting OVER a lane marker. I hope that helps. What you're describing doesn't sound like it's operating incorrectly. If the lane widens, keeping you centred may mean allowing the car to drift to the right.
@@BrantfordKia OK, though I believe your answer is based largely on LKA, while my question pertains to LFA which is actively, if gently, holding the center lane (rather than just correcting on markers). We now find that if a vehicle is in our lane ahead, LFA is not as likely to veer right at exits. It may be worth noting that consistent LKA/LFA info is hard to find, especially if you happen to veer into a European KIA site.
@@RustyMeyners Yeah, I was referring to LFA as well. I can't speak to your personal experience. You are correct in that LFA also uses the vehicle in front of you as a guide marker so that can play into things. I don't really know what else to tell you. As I said, I drive with it on all the time and find it to be very helpful.
@@BrantfordKia I know this was a while ago. But one thing that does happen, is that at the exits, the road switches from solid to dotted on the left. The car keeps trying to correct to the right (exit) as you continue to want to go straight - which means going over the dotted lines. I also find that my car wants to ride way closer to the left line, than the right side. I can be dead center in the lane and the car says I'm not. I find that I have to keep it turned off for safety because it likes to nudge me way too close to other cars. Maybe it's the roads I travel, where the lanes can get tight, and it needs a human to know when to hug the yellow line vs not. And on 2 lane roads where you want to stay tighter to the right because being in the center can make for some tight passing. Especially on downhill blind corners. Anyway - I'm gonna have the sensors looked at because I'm wondering if they're wonky or if it's the program, and maybe it can be updated. Love you training classes!
Hi Peter! Love your content! I plan on buying the 2021 Elantra Limited with lane following/HDA. Does this tech keep the car centered in its lane reliabily on the highway? Thanks!
I have 2022 K-5 GI Line. One of the three the owners manuals is over 800 pages. The dealer should absolutely have a class in how to manage all of the electronic controls involved. My salesman has gone over all of it twice now and I still have trouble remembering and or finding all of the gizmos and gadgets associated with operating the vehicle. Very frustrating---it shouldn't be this hard.
If you have to quickly get over into the next lane, say for instance a car brakes quickly in front of you or turns out in front of you, will you be able to steer the car into the next lane if LKA is on? Or will it nudge you back into the lane?
Great question. The reason that I use the word "nudge" is that the system does just that. It sort of feels like you're driving in a gully where turning left or right involves turning uphill a little bit. It's not something that will prevent you from moving unintentionally towards something that you don't want to turn towards, but it isn't something that's going to be difficult to steer past.
I have a 2023 sportage and I hate driving it because the lane assistance makes me feel like i have no control over the car. It stresses me out. Can i turn that off.
Purchased a 2021 Kia K5 EX with Lane Assist/Follow. I noticed the Lane Assist feature stays on when I restart the car, but I believe the Lane Follow Assist has to be enabled every time I start the car. Is this correct? Is it possible to leave it enabled?
How do you turn this feature off permanently so that its off when I start the engine? I always turn it off manually on the steering wheel which is annoying but less annoying that lane assist.
Thanks for the video? I guess this clears up some of the confusion. I assume this the same for hyundai and genesis as well? Also, for the 2015 genesis, there's pre departure mode and post departure mode. Is pre departure mode the equivalent of active lka and post departure mode the equivalent of standard lka? Thanks!
I'd have to look into the Genesis thing. There have already been a few generations of these systems, I may even update this video in the next few months.
Yes, it will be available in nearly all models of 2022 vehicles (maybe not all trims) And great question about the debris in the road. The feeling of steering itself is just like you're driving in a bit of a gully, you can easily steer past the centering capability without any difficulty, but if you keep your hands lightly on the wheel as most people do when they're going straight, it will nudge you left and right to keep you centred. I use the word nudge because it's not at all overpowering. YOU always have control.
In my 2022 Hyundai Kona SE I have to keep pressing the little steering wheel to activate *Lane Follow Assist* everytime I start the car. Why won't it always stay on? Thank you.
Great question. I think the manufacturer views that level of control as something that they want the driver to be sure that they're choosing. I'd love an option for it to default to on, but for some reason, it isn't set up like that.
I didn't know about this feature when I rented a Kia and It really scared me every time it took control of the steering, especially on the winding mountain roads of Colorado where I was on vacation. Not a place where I wanted to feel ike I didn't have control of my car.
It is definitely something that should be briefly explained to people before they drive off. Once you know, it's an incredible feature that makes a long drive easier.
Literally the only person on the internet who can explain this thing
My 2021 TELLURIDE is like learning a new computer program!!!
It can be frustrating at times but once you figure it out, it all starts to make sense.
Having these classes really helps, thanks.
Agreed! 🤣

I bought a new KIA and was confused about these 2 signs, now I get it, thank you.
Great job explaining this Peter! It's always nicer when you can explain with pictures.
Thanks for watching!
LKA vs LFA is a bit clearer now. Worth a second viewing. Thank you. I have LKA in the 2019 Niro EV SX Touring. First car I owned with it. Blind spot warning is a good feature to have too.
Thanks for watching.
Thank you ! I was Woundering the Difference between the LKA and LFA and you AWSNER my question! Thank you now I know that I will go buy my car.
Cheers!
Thanks for watching! Feel free to subscribe, we plan a lot of other videos like this.
I miss these so much. When I ordered my Kia Sorento PHEV 2 years ago I used to watch these all the time,e
It does I use it everyday
Just took my new 2022 Telluride on a 1000 mile trip and love this feature! Love my new ride! Thanks for these vids! This is a very informative and amazing channel.
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
we just bought a 24 Telluride and just loving it especially the lane centring system!
Well done Peter, not easy to explain. Thought for a video, our ethe backing up warning for pedestrians and other cars/hazards.
Yeah, that's a great idea. I'll try to do that soon.
Today i was confused while driving. Now its clear. Thanks man
Awesome! It's always nice to know that these videos are helpful! Thanks for watching!
Great explanation! Thanks to this i now know this functions much better than 3 years ago!
This is great, I have owned my cerato gt for one month and had sort of figured this out, but now I understand in detail. Many thanks
The kia/Hyundai lane keep assist is one of the best if not the best systems
I completely agree! Thanks for watching!
Great explanation ! I have a 21 Sorento and know what they do but couldn't ever really explain it...well done
Yeah... it's something that has been difficult to explain. Thanks for your kind comment!
@@BrantfordKia yes. I meant the plate. Funny I kept wiping the camera lol.
Great tutorial really cleared things up for me on 2023 Kia serenity edition
awesome! Glad we could help :)
I have a 2021 sorento in June. LKA and LFA are two confused functions to me before I watch the video. Thank you so much.
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!
It should be the distance setting for your smart cruise control!
I hate the Keep Assist correcting my steering in the winter months...it wants to correct when I am on icy roads! I need completed control then. How do I keep the beeps but shut off the auto-correct on the steering? I have a 2023 Sportage
Hi Andrea, If you go to ‘setup’ under your main menu & then ‘vehicle’ you can adjust it from “active assist” to “warning only”
Thanks Peter. Wife & I are still wading through the inch thick owner’s book. Our local JC does not have a Car Controls 101 course. In my 70s - this is fun (ha ha).
I hear you! I prefer videos over owner's manuals, so that's why I try to make them!
I was confused by the two on my 2022 Santa Fe. This cleared it up. Nice detailed explanation.
Awesome! I'm glad this helped! Thanks for watching! We'll have a lot more of these Kia/Hyundai Classes in the coming weeks or months, so feel free to subscribe if you think they'll be helpful!
Thank you so much. I love how you say it is confusing. The way you explain it to us makes me want my lil KIA now. Yaaaaay... Thank you. ❤❤❤❤❤
Hey Peter,
Thank you for this explanation. I was already disappointed by the LKS, but now I know to activate the LFA also.
I can imagine that for skeptical people it might be handy to have the LKS/LFA functionality seperated.
Glad you like!
@@BrantfordKia
Now I drove some miles with the LFA activated.
Thanks for watching!! We'll do more videos like this in the future!
Thanks for watching!
AHH thanks for info! I really enjoy your videos!! Your videos helped me decide that a 2020 kia forte gtl-ine was the car for me!
Awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Hey Peter I have the 2024 kia seltos xs turbo Is it good to use LFA LKA AND SPEED ASSIST ALL at one time
I have a '22 Stinger GT 2 & the LKA button on the dash, down by the fuel door/hatch release doesn't do anything.
My 2019 kia cerato/forte has the LKA only. What does the green steering wheel mean then?? Its only keeping in lane or is it also centering me?
Hows it going my man, how do I get the blind spot monitoring working off my turn signals on my dash, On my 22 Kia Sorento hybrid Ex doesn't give me the option, please help my man
Does the link keeping assist have trouble seeing the markers in the rain?
LFA needs to make an audible noise when turning off. A light chime would do. It’s soo dangerous if you so happen to take your hands off the wheel. And it turns off. Thankfully it’s only happened once. But it scary. 2:21

Can you please show us how to use the new k5 GPS? Can’t find any addresses here in Canada
That's odd. I haven't used the navigation system in the K5 yet. I'll have to look into that.
Hi Peter. I live in northern Minnesota and have a 2021 Aruba green X-Line which is the top trim here in the States. There is a big learning curve on these vehicles and your videos help a lot. I am surprised at all the differences between the Canadian and USA trims.
Yeah, it's interesting to see how the two different countries decide to equip their vehicles. Thanks for watching!
Hey Peter! Thanks for teaching me something new about Kias, I really appreciate it!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks!
The LANE KEEPING button is the car between the lines, the LANE FOLLOW button is the steering wheel. I apologize if pointed to the wrong ones.
What does the button below the minus sign do ( to the right of the steering wheel icon)
Haha! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences!
@@tc0566 Usually LKA is on, but LFA is off. I'll have to see if they changed that in the 2022 Forte here.
@BrantfordKia Thanks for the reply and detailed answer. Should I just use the LFA only to be kept in center and avoid using the LKA?
@@danishayub3988 That's the approach I've been using since I just got my 2024 Seltos last month. I actually didn't like LKA, and even less in the winter on icy roads, so I just turned it off, and now just use LFA on occasions.
Is it possible to have lane follow assist fitted tk my kia tbat has lane keep assist
I have a KIA Niro EV. Doesn't lane follow assist drain the battery?
Very helpful!! Thank you!! Very much enjoy your videos.

How do I find my radio ID so I can set up my Sirius radio subscription ? I can't find it ~
Will cars with this and with active cruise control automatically brake to avoid a collision, no matter what system is active or what speed?
Thanks for watching!
How does it work in the new Hyundai I20? I ordered it with LFA. Does it swerve around?
We don't have that model here, so I can't be sure. It shouldn't swerve around with either system. I would expect that you'll find that it does a pretty good job of holding you centred in the lane. Lane Follow Assist is the most precise system. If you have that, I think you'll be happy.
I test drove a 2021 Kia Rio, and when I used LFA, it did not slow down to the cars in front of me. Is that not available on Kia Rio?
The feature you're describing is Smart Cruise Control, and that's not on any Rio that I've driven (I'll have to check my specs for the top spec 2022 model)
Very helpful. Love these videos!
Thanks for watching! We're going to get back to filming more and more of these soon. Feel free to subscribe.
I have a 2020 kia soul ev like yours Peter. it says active LKA and not LFA..... i never felt it stir for me below below 60km/h. How do i enable LFA?
On that car, it will only work above 60 km/h.
Thanks for a good explanation, I will try this when I get the opportunity.
Do either lane keep or lane follow assist need to be activated to be in cruise mode?
Some feature seems to take corners early, so early the warning sounds.
You don't have to use either of the lane follow, or lane keep to use your cruise control.
Is this why the AEB light turned on as I was parked behind another car with the car running?
@@TheRealmiggy I'll have to examine the manuals again and play with the cars. I'm not sure.
@@BrantfordKia I live in Europe and what I have just read its default in the europe region, just to get higher score in the Ncap test
How does the LFA work with the LKA turned off?
Awesome explanation!
Does it work only momentarily ? (for Ex:, Sienna 8 secs later wants you to place your hands on the steering wheel) Or will it keep you centered in your lane without asking you to place your hands on the steering wheel? Also how about stop and go heavy traffic conditions? Thanks
I've been driving with this system in several Kia and Hyundai products. I can regularly go over 2 minutes without intervention. It's kind of silly!
I love KIA’s LKA. It works well on the highways.
Thanks!
Does it perform as well as all the other Hyundai/KIA with HDA/lane follow assist?
Yes. The Lane Follow Assist is more precise, so if you want the best system, it uses more reference points than Lane Keeping Assist.
You are correct. I don't believe it's possible to leave it enabled, although, like you, I would like to be able to do this.
There have already been a few generations of these systems, I may even update this video in the next few months.
are these features in the 2022 models ? and if there is debris in the road like a tire or something can you steer out of the way of the object/s ???
@@BrantfordKia
Thank you firstly for your time to reply and secondly for your answer. Both are greatly appreciated.👍
@@CJHallx I appreciate you taking the time to watch!
@@BrantfordKia I think you're right about how the manufacturer is thinking. Great videos btw. I can't wait for my Sorento SX PHEV to get here.
