    This explains a lot for my system!! I was having fears of "subconsciously faking it" again because whenever alters would read their name or hear it, they'd come closer and it seemed like I was "controlling" them, making them "fake." This makes me feel a whole lot more valid!

    It's similar to combat vets having a passive listen to sounds. Suddenly that sound is turned up from 'background noise' to 'ELEVEN' and we're reacting.

    Yay a new Rings System video always makes my day!!! 👍🏻😘 Most of my alters didn’t come with names (only 2 of us have names). I wondered why, but just today I realized: we never *needed* names before because we were a covert disorder and everyone was pretending to be the host, going by the host name and pretending there was only one person in the body. But now that we know, we need names. And just now gave me another reason why we need names: to talk about each other easier and as a positive trigger for an alter who is needed at the front. Thank you, Silver and Rings System for a fantastic video, as always! Love you all!! 💕

    Hah, sometimes it's problematic, when someone who doesn't know about system, calls the name of alter and he suddenly goes in front. Some of us think it's funny, but other alters doesn't like that thing.

    Another system and I have this phenomenon so much, we've actually just been calling it the "beetlejuice effect" because for us it sometimes takes a few namedrops/we had no idea of this effect or any personal experience to relate to it (don't listen for our names in crowded spaces much) - but this was a helpful analogy for what exactly the behind-the-scene mechanics are like for this phenomenon! It answered some theories I know we had.

    I'll admit, I myself am struggling to understand if I have OSDD 1-B.
    I'm not... sure. It's difficult to really say. I don't remember having "others" in my head, but I was also a very "imaginative" child, as I am an adult. I had "imaginary friends" that I remember feeling real to me. There are... fragments of others in my head, currently, having their own voices and desires, but how can you tell what's purely imagination verses what isn't? Am I just imagining two "characters" having a certain type of relationship, or are they actually there, interacting when I'm not conscious of them? Do I get emotional amnesia? How often am I "switching" without even knowing if I really do have OSDD? Do normal people refer to themselves in the second person? I often say "You" instead of "I" and on occasion have thought "We" instead of "I/me," but this is less often. Thinking about it now is giving me some kind of headache, is that the signs of an alter wanting to come to the front?
    I can't really tell. Does anyone maybe have any ideas as to how I can definitively determine if it's all in my imagination, or if what I've been calling my "imagination" is more than that?

      I'd do some research, did-research.org and traumadissociation.com are good places to start.
      Something helpful I do is write a note in an obvious location, and put "if you don't remember writing this or feel like you weren't the one who wrote it, please leave a reply."
      I know it's confusing now, but with time, you'll build up more and more experiences, and it'll be clearer what's going on. (and always, therapists are helpful!)
      Lots of love to you and best of luck ❤️❤️

    Hi, you guys probably won’t see this but I needed to get it out and in the off chance you do see this, than maybe you can offer advice. I think I have OSDD-1b. Including me, there are 14 distinct personalities in my head(that I’ve found) there aren’t amnesia barriers when individuals are fronting (though I can’t access the trauma memories). I don’t know how to get an actual diagnosis or even we’re to start. If you have any advice or tips it’d be greatly appreciated... ~Darcy (long term host?)
    Ps. Thanks for all you do. Your channel has helped me so much and is making this discovery a lot easier to handle.

      Hah you guessed wrong! We read every comment and try our best to respond to every question.
      My best advice is a few things:
      1. Self diagnosis is valid, and a process I think everyone should engage in to some extent (even if professionally diagnosed). So that means do some research! did-research.org and traumadissociation.com are good sites to start with.
      2. It's ok to experiment if you're self diagnosing. Try diagnostic labels on for a couple weeks, do some coping mechanisms specific to that label, and see how they fit and whether they help.
      2. if you live in the right areas, zencare.co/ helps w finding therapists, and if not, psychology today is also good. Literally googling "dissociative therapist [city]" works well.
      3. Love yourselves. You guys are beautiful, and remember that every part within you (whether they end up being alters or not) deserves love, acceptance, and an open mind. Strong bonds within yourself is what leads to happiness and recovery. ❤️

      hey now i don't know how things work so sorry if i seem a bit ignorant but how do you know you have trauma if you don't have the memories?

    • @TheRingsSystem
      @TheRingsSystem  4 роки тому +47

      1. You experience symptoms, even without remembering it.
      Dissociation is a symptom of trauma, and having alters is also a really big clue.
      You also get PTSD symptoms without actually knowing.. why? So you can have flashbacks, but once they're over you forget what they were about. Or be hyperviligant in certain situations and have no idea why, or certain things can trigger panic or fear without any understandable cause because you don't have the memories. Ect. Various PTSD/CPTSD symptoms just start showing up and you don't know why, but they're obviously caused by something you don't have access to.
      2. It's also clear that aspects of your system are set up in ways that denote that trauma occurred. Other alters might hold everything I just described, or some alters are formed in REALLY OBVIOUS ways that point towards trauma. Like parental alters to stand in for actual parents due to neglect. Or protectors that show no emotion because you weren't allowed to. Things like that.
      Hope that helps!

    This happens quite frequently in our system, especially with the younger three alters. For example yesterday our best friend sent us photos of their new animal themed stationery, and both times the alter that was mentioned was suddenly in present and interacting with the fronter at that time
    Also, thank you as always for posting videos about DID/OSDD. It's nice to see other people experiencing similar phenomena to us, and explain the things we are unsure of. Stay slaying and can't wait for the next upload :)

    you mentioned 'when i'm reminded that my system exists' and this is a big reason of why i'm questioning so i just wanted to ask: is it possible to be on autopilot or engrossed and not really notice them/'forget' they're there? but once reminded, they show up more to the front because i thought about them? i always thought that this was probably an indicator that i might not have osdd but this was interesting to hear. my 'system' (again idk for sure) isn't very distinct and most of them are not that separated from me i don't think, so it just feels like a lot of characters and their presence in my head, only two i'm aware of at the moment as being more individual. i don't experience switches that i'm aware of either but i'm definitely still learning about this. i have a lot of denial still so i'm not sure. last month i thought the only alter system disorder was did which i don't have so your channel is very helpful to me, thank you!

    • @TheRingsSystem
      @TheRingsSystem  3 роки тому +4

      I'd say that more of "it's easy to not notice switching, because this is a covert disorder - but when I'm reminded of it, I notice switching more often." It happens to us too, and is a very common phenomenon (outside of DID/OSDD!) When you're reminded of something, or think of it actively, you notice instances of it more often :)

    This is a very reassuring concept! I go through spats of time where I won’t hear from anyone for a handful of days, or sometimes I’ll only hear a few bits of scattered commentary, but when I engage and try to speak to/at folks, they’ll typically answer back. Not always, though, which can be worrisome in its own right. I am still sitting in my “separated internal monologue is okay, and it’s honestly probably intentional even though it’s been really automatic and easy since you were ten or so” boat, but... In short, I do find research and shared experiences reassuring!

    Again so helpful. I will have to digest this one to think of situations where this has occurred. I know certain alters front when they are needed, such as Cinderella when I need to do housecleaning, or the writer when I needed to prepare reports at work. I still don’t know how I got through school and university. Since my diagnosis I realize there were periods where I ‘wasn’t there’. I have very little recollection of grade 6, or my history course in grade 9. At my high school reunion class mates came up who I did not remember, who would recollect situations I don’t remember. Speaking of the cocktail effect, at a recent wedding I was pleased to be able to sit through the wedding snd reception. I did not however expect such a sudden reaction when the lights went down and the disco ball was lit up. I became nauseated and could not walk. My head was spinning and I had to leave immediately. My uncle took me to my hotel room and I kept switching from one alter to another for more than hour, before I took some meds to knock me out.

    We've assumed that in some cases it's a chicken-egg thing; If we're thinking about one of us, then there's a chance they want attention anyway. I guess that ties into what you said about "not actively engaging with whoever is right next to you."

I don't have DID, I thought about the possibility about having osdd but I doubt it, it felt weirdly accurate but I'm sure I don't have this disorder.
