As an A train rider, this should get no higher than a B- grade. 6 tph during rush hours and always getting held up at 59st, 145st and 168th. It barely outruns the 1 LOCAL on its way to Inwood 😮‍💨😒
Unless they de-interline the Cranberry-Tubes and 59st Junction this line will never improve..

The best way to deinterline the Cranberry tubes would require the C and E running together on Cranberry. This would mean that the A would be a local route running from Norwood 205th St to WTC. This requires the C to be moved to the QBL to 179th St leaving the E as it is. With that the C would do express service on its line and this proposed C would be at 24tph while the E does 12tph to Euclid. The C would better handle the three branches after Euclid as each branch of the proposed C Train would also replace the inconsistent H Shuttle to Rockaway as the C would have to alternate between 3 terminals.
Concourse riders would have to get used to 8th Ave service one way or another as the A would have more capacity than the D at Concourse.
The A has to end at Norwood because of how the 59th St Junction works.
      For the A/C/E
A: Norwood 205th St to WTC
      C: Jamaica 179th St to Lefferts Blvd/Rockaways
E: Jamaica Center to Euclid Ave
The B and D would be required to take the Inwood Branch under this pattern
B: Inwood 207th St to Coney Island (Sea Beach)
D: 168th St to Bay Ridge 95th St

The E Line is one of the common lines I've been on because when I arrive into New York JFK from London Heathrow, I take the AirTrain from JFK Terminal 8 to Jamaica Station and then catch the Subway at Sutphin Boulevard Archer Avenue JFK Airport. I like taking the E Line from Sutphin Boulevard Archer Avenue JFK Airport to any Station in Manhattan because when an E Line train arrives from its eastern terminus at Jamaica Centre-Parsons/ Archer, the train is nearly empty so there's plenty of room onboard each carriage for air travellers like me who have flown into New York JFK and the journey times on the E Line are very good as well.

I completely understand about the 1, the trains are much more dirty and now the headways are starting to slow, however the 3 was done extremely dirty. The 3 train runs really well on weekday rush hours. Sure, the 2 runs more often but the 3 is more of a support. The 3 runs really fast and the way you claimed the headways are pretty exaggerated. Sometimes I see more 3 trains than 2 trains. The 3 runs well on the el part but struggles at Roger’s. Other than that it’s a very solid line. It doesn’t get crowded during rush hours except near midtown, has decent headways, and serves a very well purpose. I feel like it should be placed in A tier.

Tbh I can understand why the F is B-tier, but to put it out there, I've still seen two or three F trains come before an E at Roosevelt Ave. And that was even before the 63 st construction began. I feel like the F, just like the E, also deserves an A rating. It does fantastic on QBL, 6 Ave, and really frequent service on Culver (tho I wish F trains always ran express on Culver).

    • @Interstella-ni3vh
      @Interstella-ni3vh Рік тому +1

As a former F-rider I've always been proud of their frequent service. however...
F has too many stops in Brooklyn with a lengthy commute that is exacerbated by whiny Yuppies in North Brooklyn who are adamant to sharing some of their capacity with a proper express service.
No way a train that takes an hour to go from Gravesend to Manhattan should be in A tier.

Pretty interesting video, was wondering if you would be interested in making a video on how service can be adjusted based on raising speed limits across certain trunks in the system, thought that would be a cool idea for a video that many may be interested in. Queens Blvd has one of the fastest trains I've seen in a while but it'll never compare to what 7th Ave used to look like when Redbirds were on the 2 and the 3 had 9 car R62As,and over the years, certain trunk lines have definitely slowed down.

  • @tombarzey7964

As a #5 Dyre Avenue line rider for 44 plus years, I would give this line a B tier because of the headways during rush hours as well. Like the A line with different terminals in Queens, the 5 line has different terminals in the Bronx. During rush hours, the headways to and from Dyre Avenue can be 12 to 15 minutes waiting for a train. If we’re all paying the same fare, we should all get decent service.

@@williamerazo3921 I know the WPR line has more ridership. The Dyre Avenue line does have a good descent ridership especially during rush hours with folks going to and from work and students going to school in the morning. There are schools at each stop on the Dyre Avenue line. That's no excuse for the long waits.

I see huge problems in 14th st Union square with the crowding and I see often pushing and shoving and holding doors, even if it runs 3-4 mins I still try to find a way to avoid it because I don’t wanna deal with that crowding. I once had to wait 30 mins in Myrtle wycoff for the L, that is unacceptable. If your in an emergency then the L is needed but other than that I don’t really see it being useful for me. That’s insane! In terms of timings I think I get lucky, with it coming every 5-8 minutes, at worst being 10. Despite that I don’t think the line is that bad at all to use on a consistent basis, it does have some speed still in Manhattan, whilst rare now. For me it should at bare minimum have a C.

The 1 is my train! But wayyyy too often it's out of commission past 137th st, which makes it unuseable for me, and the "shuttles" are always so sketchy and not a replacement for the same route. B tier because of this, imo.

as a (G), (4), (5), and (6) rider (the only lines that i take pretty much daily), i really want to see some improvements on the (G). i always run into issues with train bunching, long headways, and missing the train because it was too short. i really do love when on the weekends the operators will speed things up a bit but i feel like the (G) should get more service somehow. waiting 8, 10, 12, or even 21 (longest headway on a (G) ive seen without a service change) minutes for a train is unacceptable for a line that is used relatively heavily. i'd like to see some extra trains come from either r179's that get displaced with the installation of the r211's on the (A) and possibly the (C) run on the (G) to either form more frequent 5-car trains or running 8-10 car trains. i think the first option would fit better as thr (G) just struggles from long headways. also, i feel like the (G) is still missing transfers. there are a few projects that would be a little more long term and expensive but would help with this. one is to consolidate the stations on the (J)/(M)/(Z) lines to allow for a transfer with the (G) at broadway. another is to connect the franklin ave shuttle to the bedford nostrand ave middle track, however that would be an even tougher project as the current northern terminus of the franklin ave shuttle is elevated and it would be tough to get it back underground to connect with the (G). but if we can decrease headways (maybe add like one or two trains) on the franklin ave shuttle, it would be a useful connection with the fulton st line, eastern pkwy line, and brighton line. i feel like the (G) has a lot of potential but it just isnt a priority right now which is kind of sad.
as for the (4) and (5), i feel like a lot of deinterlining can be done to get rid of delays at rogers jct and 149st. there always seems to be delays there, and i think one plan is to have the (3) run to dyre along with the current (2) configuration and have them seperate at E180st. this would solve the delays at 149st GC with (5) trains being limited to 10mph on the sharp curves there. while rebuilding the curves would be an option, i think a much simple option would be the suggested option. after the (5) gets displaced, it could either run with the (4) as a supplementary line allowing for peak direction express on jerome, or it could run on a future 3rd ave line. as for the harlem riders that are missing out on the (3) service, i think that a shuttle service could replace the (3) here as 135st station already has 3 tracks and it could be converted into a shuttle terminus as well as an island platform for the (2)/(3) going to the bronx. since 145st is already only able to service ~6 cars, a few 5 car sets of r62's could be set aside for this.
for the (6) line, i feel like there is a big issue with overcrowding on lex. all the time i see one train getting delayed because of long dwell times caused by overcrowding, and it caused that train to be running 4-12 mins behind schedule. often, to combat this, said train will run express, but it doesnt help much because the time for the next train will be further increased from the 4-12 mins original delay. but it gets worse, as trains tend to bunch following this, causing trains to run at incredibly slow speeds because of a train in front of them. the solution is either cbtc, better train scheduling, reconfiguring parkchester, but idk what else would solve it.
i could complain about more, but this comment is already an essay so ill leave it at that
but qbl, dekalb, 149, rogers, cranberry/fulton, and many more lines need to be deinterlined/fixed.

That plans is terrible and will do nothing more than shoot ourselves in the foot. As I say it and AGAIN, White Plains Road and dyre Avenue riders has a SERIOUS DEMAND for the East Side removing the 5 train Lexington Avenue line from white Plains Road is a AWFULLY ABYMAL idea!!! How the hell are people going to get to the east side without it. 149th Street Grand Concourse will become a dangerously CROWDED CRUSH LOADED NIGHTMARE, The (2) and (4) trains are already overcrowded with the way the system currently is. No matter what investment/expansion you make to 149th Street Grand Concourse even with a restored 3rd Avenue line the 2 and 4 trains will LITERALLY NEVER be able to handle that many people transferring you would be pissing off thousands of riders in the bronx!
Furthermore If the (2)(3) both serve The Bronx white plains road, there is no longer any service to the 145th Street or Harlem - 148th Street stations on the coverting that part into a shuttle is also shit too. since that would be screwing over everyone trying to get to midtown on Harlem. Like 135th street wasn’t designed for that overly complicated service patterns, the same for IRT Brooklyn. Rogers junction let’s face it it will never be perfect so their no use in even trying at this point. It actually works out. A lot of people use the (5) train on nostrand Avenue to get to Lexington Avenue. And a lot of people on the New Lots Avenue line uses the (3) train to get to 7th Avenue and the (3) train needs quick access to the Livonia Yard.
And before you come up with this delusional view that the loss of one rides can be “consolated by more service” well sorry buddy but I’m afraid that’s not how it works, Having the 5 run up Jerome would create a redundant service and over-serve Jerome Ave. The case could be made for more rush hours service on the line to allow the 4 to run express in the direction of traffic, but outside the rush, is there really a need for 40+ TPH or 2-3 minute constant service on Jerome or in all of IRT for that matter? The 5 would either become a rush hour-only route, which would be disastrous for Lexington Ave, or the rerouted trains would have to terminate at 149 St-Grand Concourse to continue providing service down the line, which would be a waste just to avoid a MERE MERGE ZONE! Like that’s the fatal flaw in these trash plans, they isn’t enough space to terminate and run over these trains meaning that will be an additional dwell times in the middle of stations waiting for the trains to depart the terminals like occasional when I ride the 2 train it sometimes get stuck on Nereid Avenue when both tracks on Wakefield 241st street are occupied actually more unnecessary extra capacity will worsen this issue and Dyre Avenue definitely for a fact cannot handle the extra service, part of the reason with those select rush hour 5 trains start and end at nereid avenue, and that’s to not only allow for easier east side access on the northern white plains road line but to allowed for extra Lexington Avenue express service without over serving Dyre Avenue line. Is there honestly a NEED FOR THAT MANY SERVICE is the ENTIRE subway system for that matter? These are just formers throwing tantrums over the fact these trains ain’t running every 1 minute apart for each other. 149th street curve barely costs any delays compared to Roger junctions and dekalb avenue.
I could tell that you have barely or never even ridden the 2 3 4 5 trains before in the Bronx or Harlem. IRT has the best on time performance ever every 3- 7 minutes is excellent for MTA Standards. Reverse branching doesn’t automatically means bad.

My rating isn't any where nearly as sophisticated as yours is. I like the IND best, then the BMT, and then the IRT. That is due their modernity and track layout. The IND has the most modern track layout, and the IRT, for the most part, is more primitive due to mostly being built earlier. The B, D, and F are my most favourite because of the routings. I rode the F once 8 or so years ago from 34th St to Jamaica and back hoping for a racy express run under Queens Blvd. I was disappointed because the local overtook us. I'm not privy to what the holdup was for. I should have gone up 8th Ave if I wanted a fast express ride, I suppose. I'm not an expert on your operations, as I'm from a suburb on the west side of Toronto, Ontario, and don't come there often enough.

The A train is just too kong if a line qith two terminals in Queens.

    • @Reformperson
      @Reformperson Рік тому

Well the A only runs 12tph with the 2 terminals it runs to, meaning that you have 6tph on each line which is too low. Any line that runs towards those branches needs all the capacity that it can get. Bear in mind the A with the C runs 17tph combined which is what’s proposed for CPW on the Local Track.
To fix the A and C lines they would have to become separate lines and the A would have to be chopped back to WTC, but in return this changes the A line’s northbound terminal to Norwood 205th St. I can’t believe I didn’t say this but with the A funneling 17tph on Concourse you can have excess 10 car sets for the G which it needs to be a full length train. The G has enough sets to make 9 full length sets, and with that it gets 7 totaling 15. That plus the R179s can come in handy for the G as it would have enough sets to be a full length train.
For the C it won’t be running on CPW anymore as we are moving it to the QBL to 179th St, since we’re having the C take over the branches East of Euclid, we have the E join the C on Cranberry and Fulton. The E remains as it is in Queens but In Manhattan it would go express to Fulton. Once on the IND Fulton St Line the C would be the line moved to the Express tracks while the E gets the local tracks. This also means the the C takes over the 3 branches that the A had.
