We had some friends that lived in Jet when I was a kid back in the 80s. Don't know if they are still there anymore. Jet is just south of where I grew up in Kansas.
I've lived in Enid my whole life and have not once been to Jet. Honestly forgot that it even existed. this was definitely an interesting video for someone relatively local to the area.
I grew up in and graduated from High School in Cherokee, Oklahoma, just north west of Jet. I attended many teen hops in Jet that featured local bands. Great times!
I really enjoyed your video, thank you for the history lesson.. I’ve been to Jet and the great salt plains several times. I love traveling to old towns.. take care and stay safe
The look at another small town and learn it's history is wonderful as always. But I didn't realize there was another salt flat closer than Bonneville to is here in the Midwest. Went through Bonneville late last summer. Going outbound we stopped for a bit and explored. Before we came back through, Mother Nature dropped the rain that cancelled out Speed Week there. The flats were covered by water, which did really change the look of the area. South of I-80, only the rail tracks were above water. That presented a unique vision. Thanks as always for another wonderful trip!
Interesting! I’m curious what Bonneville looked like when it was wet. It was very dry the one time I went there and I went 120 mph in my rental car haha.
So happy to find this video! I have a photo in my family photo album of my cousin sitting on a horse just as this town was being born. Cabinet card photo. I believe its dated 1888 or 1889. Last name was Redfern buried in a cemetery close by. Have been wanting to go there for several years just to be there and see it. Thanks for this!!❤
really liked that drone shot at the end swooping over your head! I bet it was nice to just let that drone open up and fly without much around! Interesting video. Thank you!
In college my future husband and I filmed a Star Wars short out there with a bunch of his collectibles. It turned out great and his prof was a big fan so he got an A ...yay!
Been through Jet so many times. Ive never been to the salt plains sadly. When I was a kid, other kids would bring salt crystals to show and tell and one of them even passed them out to everyone. How I live so close and have never gone there is baffling lol
When I went to Salt Plains there was some salty puddles. My black car got really dirty with dried up salt stuck to it. Looked for a car wash in Jet, but they didn't have any that were operational. The few I saw were abandoned. I had to drive to Enid in order to get to a car wash. Someone in Jet, OK could make a lot of money if they owned a car wash that works near the Salt Plains.
I enjoy all your videos, but especially love seeing you visit the area where I live. My first two years teaching were in Jet and now I’m in nearby Cherokee. I’m also a track coach. We’re very proud of our track tradition and complex we completed about 8 years ago. Would love to show it off if you’re ever in the area again.
Great video Wiseguy. I knew about the salt plains but I had no idea how much area it covered. My wife and I will definitely stop there next time we are in NW Oklahoma.
Have you been to the Hutchinson salt mine? That's pretty famous. A lot of salt in general in the region. Not necessarily in a salt plain like this but in mines even such as in Hutch.
I was trying to come up with a salty comment, as it turns out it is just a little plain. Very interesting place, great drone shots, thanks for taking us there.
Hi, I just watched the show that had Hoyt Axton on the side with Elvis. Elvis did not write Heartbreak Hotel in fact it was Hoyts mother. Mae Axton was the writer
Thanks! Whenever I go on a longer trip, I usually rent a vehicle. My car is 11 years old so I try to not run it into the ground if possible. Having this UA-cam channel has helped pay for some of the rental costs.
Say Wiseguy are you going to show any videos from this area of Oklahoma, or have you, Thank you. "Members of the Osage tribe in the United States are murdered under mysterious circumstances in the 1920s, sparking a major F.B.I. investigation involving J. Edgar Hoover" I would like to see pictures of the area the movie and book is talking about.

Neat area to grow up!
As usual you found a place I’ve never heard of. I had no idea Oklahoma had such a salt flat with crystal deposits. Thanks for sharing! 👍
Yes!!! My father is shopping for land by watching your channel
Oh wow that’s very cool!!
I graduated from high school just north of there, in Kansas
I have a rolltop desk that was bought before Oklahoma became a state for a meat warehouse.

Thank you! Definitely worth stopping by and checking things out!
@@TravelwithaWiseguy I actually used to live there but now I also live in Enid. I used to go to the elementary school too
Thanks for finding our Beautiful Oklahoma. ❤

Fun activity to do with the kids!
This was wonderful. You have such great taste in music too!
Thank you Gregory!
Cool! Enjoyed learning about this....would love to visit now. Jet is interesting too! Thanks for another great video!

That was a lot of fun! Love those wide open spaces!
That was cool! Hope you did a video on digging the crystals!
Thanks! I didn’t do one on the crystals. I didn’t know really what to do or have any proper digging tools! 😂😂

Awesome! Upload to UA-cam I’d love to see it!
@@TravelwithaWiseguy sadly it was on some kind of a cassette but I will try to find it

Probably worth a stop next time you’re in town!!

Very true! Maybe one just outside the entrance to the park would be best!
I drive through jet on a weekly basis, I do remember jet was a hot spot early 80s due to Salt Plains the lake would be packed back then.
I bet! Definitely has a lot going on near town!
Another great video. Never been to Jet but definitely on my list now. Thank you sir!
Thanks! Definitely unique with the salt plains so close!
Wow Man! That's Cool 😎 👍

i live about 30 min away from Jet in Lamont Oklahoma

I’ve actually never been there but plan to go sometime! Have thought that might be an interesting video too. 🤷🏼♂️
@@TravelwithaWiseguy That was a field trip when I was a kid, that and the Kansas Cosmosphere.
Is that where they have the natural gas storage mines ?
I was trying to come up with a salty comment, as it turns out it is just a little plain. Very interesting place, great drone shots, thanks for taking us there.
😂😂😂 thanks for the comedy once again!
Is that "Springs" town (I couldn't tell what you said, that town where you said the post office got moved from) a ghost town?
Barrel Springs - I haven’t seen anything about it. Might have just been a post office.
I live in Taloga, OK in nw ok. Just found your channel. You are welcome to Taloga anytime!
Awesome! Thank you for watching and for the invite!

Did ya get you a bite of at Grippy Joe’s or Greasy Steve’s near by?
I didn’t unfortunately 😞
Very nice video. I never knew about the salt flats. 1 question, how many miles a week (or month) do you put on your car ?
Thanks! Whenever I go on a longer trip, I usually rent a vehicle. My car is 11 years old so I try to not run it into the ground if possible. Having this UA-cam channel has helped pay for some of the rental costs.
Have you done one on Nash, Oklahoma yet
I have not
@@TravelwithaWiseguy ok cause the signs that are on the east end of jet my grandpa painted
Nash isnt far from there. that'd be a *very* short video
Did they mine borax at the salt plain.
I haven’t read or seen anything about borax there.
Salt fats, salt flats six to one half a dozen to others. Both the town of Jet and the salt flats were very interesting stories. TFS
Haha thank you! 😊
Neet old town.

Yes! I previously did videos on Fairfax as well as Gray Horse. Both were part of that story and upcoming movie!
