We had some friends that lived in Jet when I was a kid back in the 80s. Don't know if they are still there anymore. Jet is just south of where I grew up in Kansas.

The look at another small town and learn it's history is wonderful as always. But I didn't realize there was another salt flat closer than Bonneville to is here in the Midwest. Went through Bonneville late last summer. Going outbound we stopped for a bit and explored. Before we came back through, Mother Nature dropped the rain that cancelled out Speed Week there. The flats were covered by water, which did really change the look of the area. South of I-80, only the rail tracks were above water. That presented a unique vision.
Thanks as always for another wonderful trip!

Interesting! I’m curious what Bonneville looked like when it was wet. It was very dry the one time I went there and I went 120 mph in my rental car haha.

So happy to find this video! I have a photo in my family photo album of my cousin sitting on a horse just as this town was being born. Cabinet card photo. I believe its dated 1888 or 1889. Last name was Redfern buried in a cemetery close by. Have been wanting to go there for several years just to be there and see it. Thanks for this!!❤

Been through Jet so many times. Ive never been to the salt plains sadly. When I was a kid, other kids would bring salt crystals to show and tell and one of them even passed them out to everyone. How I live so close and have never gone there is baffling lol

When I went to Salt Plains there was some salty puddles. My black car got really dirty with dried up salt stuck to it.
Looked for a car wash in Jet, but they didn't have any that were operational. The few I saw were abandoned.
I had to drive to Enid in order to get to a car wash. Someone in Jet, OK could make a lot of money if they owned a car wash that works near the Salt Plains.
