Learning so much from your videos! Just bought a Nuffield and had a fordson major before that one day it just stopped dead and couldn't work out why but the next owner got it running and said the lift pump was blocked full of crap and fuel tank was full of sludge too so I've seen your videos on the fuel system too so now I've got a Nuffield kinda in same condition I'll be cleaning all the fuel system out and changing the the injection pump oil So thanks for doing the videos
Thanks so much for your videos we have several nuffields & now we have retired (at 81) to our bit of bush as I thought the nuffields are as good for work as they were 50+ years back! trouble is NONE OF TODAYS MAINTANENCE GUYS ACTUALLY KNOW ANYTHING!! so your informative & PRACTICAL vids are wonderful Thank you from outback New Zealand
You are a legend!! Thanks so much for doing this video. The bell shaped bit had deformed and wasn’t doing its job. I had no idea this was a thing till today.
I've watched all your videos and they are great advice for a novice witch I am. I've just bought a Nuffield 4/65 and I can't seem to get the hydraulics working. Is there any chance you could do a video on how to use hydraulics and pto please. Would be much appreciated
I served my time for a dealer on these. It wasnt uncommon for the back casting to break off. Having implements bouncing around with the lift lock in place was the main cause. As this guy says the lift lock is there to keep a parked implement or one having manintaince up in the air and safe, Its not for driving around with heavy things latched. The (heavy) implemnent goes up in the air and bangs onto the latch and eventually the casting snaps. There is a relief valve on the lift cylinder for a good reason. Dont drive around using the lift latch unless you have a spare rear casting.
There is a relief valve on the valve block to protect the pump, but I'm not aware of any relief valve on the lift cylinder to protect the tractor in case of a over load!
Hi Monte, I have rescued a 10/60 from a beach property here in Bluewater, Queensland , Australia. I have 2 issues I hope you may help with. 1. The PTO lever moves freely between the 2 engaged positions (output shaft turning in both positions) but will not go into the off position. PTO shaft stops turning with the PTO clutch lever is pulled back. 2. The main hydraulic rear lift arms lock in the up position regardless of the position of the plunger on the top of the hydraulic housing. The only way to release the arms is to turn off the engine to drop the hyd pressure, then the arms drop freely. The arms go up and down as normal in all lower positions.
PTO problem is probably burs on end of internal shaft caused by incorrect shims under support bearing, rear hydraulic casting will need removing to correct it. Not sure about your lift problem but check position of draught control lever!

First of all thank you for the video I am new to this group my daughter has a 472 Leyland, while changing from piece of equipment to another arms went into the air and will not come back down I followed what you mentioned in your video I have moved the lock clockwise and counterclockwise the arms are still locked will not come down I'm assuming something must've happened inside the housing. I've never had the housing off before what should I expect when I remove it I am very mechanically inclined and not afraid to take things apart if you just give me a heads up it would be greatly appreciated or am I missing something from the video thank you again Gary.

Hi, Monte, I have just rescued a Nuffield from a scrap yard. it is missing its engine, clutch and rear wheels and probably lots of little bits. it has a single stick 5 speed gear box. how do I identify which model it was? I have a 1965 3 cylinder bmc JCB which is complete. I also have a 4 cylinder JCB with a running engine which I was considering putting in this Nuffield. Which would be the best engine to fit? I also have a Perkins 6 cylinder turbo. I would appreciate your thoughts. thank you.
Hi, You have a lot of work ahead. The JCB engine would be the easiest to fit. It should bolt straight in. The model is on a brass plate about 8 inch back from the radiator on the right hand side of the chassis, if this is missing the serial number is also stamped into the top face of the casting in the same place. To fit the 6 cylinder engine you would have to lengthen the chassis and a lot of other mods!
The ones with a button top about 3/4 inch across? The inner end of these abutt against the lift/lower levers and it adjusts the speed at which oil returns, like how fast a plough can be lowered.
hi I'm looking for a Nuffield if you know of any for sale looking for a good runner mainly to use on the topper and log splitter we have got a dm4 but its a sorry state which my uncle will be doing up, so was looking for one for me self I'm in Derbyshire area near east midlands airport, just thought you'd be the man to ask. cheers George
Strange as the remotes have priority over the linkage so there cant be a supply problem. Im no expert on the hydraulic system I suggest you take it to the forum www.nuffieldtractor.com where there is a pool of knowledge!
Do you have a video on why my lift wont go all the way down. For picking up trailers the hitch won’t go all the way down, maybe 80% down.the hitch stops at 6-9 inches from the ground (leyland 262) I’ve tried draft and Percision.
montegoson thank you for your reply. I have tried it in both. (Leyland 262). I lifted the lift to the top. And then changed the leaver from position to draft. And then pushed the lift leave back down ( it only goes 1/3 if the way down) and the lift arms go down but the hitch still stop 6-9 inches from the ground. It just won’t go any lower. I have tried swapping back to position by lifting up and switching leaves, and now the lift leaver in the cab does all the way down but the hitch still stops at the same hight 6-9inchs from the ground

Oil, you can bye a engine oil for nuffields that can be used in the gearbox as well as lift oil for backend,
Yes its known as STOU any agricultural merchant or oil company will suoply it

It’s not so much about rotating the pin, but pulling out!
Great explanation! Where would I be able to get a replacement locking pin from?

Not hydraulic oil! I use STOU . A consideration is to use the same oil as tractors it will share implements with.

Hi my hydrolic 3 point hitch won't work . Just wondering what kind of hydrolic oil is needed for this tractor
Goooood👍👍👍👍👍
Wondering if you can help, I have 384 3 point linkage will raise when I engage lever but will not lower. What could be the issue?
Sorry no idea, never had hydraulic problems
Hi, do you know what the two small screws are on the top casting on the right hand side. Are they some sort of adjustment?

Hello, I am trying to send pictures of the broken PTO selector ans can not attach them. Any options?

Any ideas on why the remotes will not work. The 3 point hitch linkage works but we have a loader and cannot seem to get oil flowing from remotes.

Steven Harper Do you have hydraulics in draught instead of position?
Sorry just read last line of your question. I don’t know the problem.
Go to the Nuffield and Leyland club site and find the information page that gives hydraulic adjustment settings

Do you know why a 154 arms get stuck in the up position and how to free them?
Sorry I have never owned a 154. Try putting your question on the tractor forum www.nuffieldtractor.com
I have one on a 1060 that I can't set to a working position I'm thinking it's just not turning with the cap
Would there be any other reason
Ivan Mullen it’s not just about rotation the pin is held out when the cap sits on the machined ledge
@@montegoson thanks Rick I'm ploughing with it later I'll check it more closely
The steering is excellent a great job
