My thought was the Mother was the killer like in Friday The 13th
For one she always seemed off and the killer was very feminine with the glitter mask and thin body build
She is still good-looking in her senior age! This movie is actually an excellent slasher and the killer is actually sympathetic and it’s kinda sad he has to die at the conclusion
Dude Jamie Lee Curtis is smoking hot in the original Prom Night.
The lipstick thing I think is mean't to be psychological, the killer dressed more feminine and weared Lipstick because he wanted take revenge as his twin sister.
JRockSamurai Shane I don't know if that would be accurate. His sister was still a little kid who didn't wear makeup. It could have been a production flaw as to make the red lips appear to be bleeding.
Randy Taylor that’s probably more likely. The ‘making of’ feature did not say anything about the killer doing a Norman Bates type act
I had this thought initially but thought it was a little far fetched as he was channelling the essence of his sister to get revenge.
In the Directors cut the killer mother couldn't find her lipstick.

I'll def add this to my collection.. man, Jamie Lee really was thee scream queen.. Halloween, Prom Night, Terror Train, etc..
I like that the killings took so long since it felt more like a drama. Then when the murders start it got spooky especially the killer chases Wendy through the school & it’s so satisfying when he gets her and butchers her (plus we don’t actually see it).
Wendy’s Chase scene is ICONIC!!! It’s lengthy and he’s really running after her FULL OUT so it just feels more terrifying.
I remember when Prom Night came out. My parents wouldn't let me go see it because it had an R rating. I saw it years later on VHS and love it to this day! This movie has an incredible creepy atmosphere! Great review as usual Drumdums!
Prom Night is really solid! A fan on UA-cam apparently reedited the movie into what the director envisioned and removed the subplot with the escaped mental patient and added back in scenes of more character development and it's an interesting edit of the film!

A scene was cut where it is revealed that Robin, and Alex were twins. Because it made the killer too obvious. Also there is foreshadowing when the intended male victim misses the killer’s call.
I think it was still pretty clear they were twins. They were wearing identical striped shirts in the beginning. Jamie Lee says little sis would have been a junior going to her first prom. And the little brother going to the same prom has to also be a junior.
The reason the killer wore make up was the mother was a red herring. . .but in film I think it was supposed to be the twin connection (Robin was the killer "Now it's my turn") which didn't translate well

Great review. Love Prom Night and its always fun to watch reviews of it. In the Horrors of Hamilton High the making of Prom Night the actor Michael Tough mentions the lipstick but he had no real answer lol. That is actually up on UA-cam if anyone wants to see it.

Prom night is just one of my favorite slashers. I love the stylish-ness to it. The killers look is good to me. Plus the character development does set it apart.
Best soundtrack ever! I like the phone scene where the killer is calling the group one by one, it's done in sequence to foreshadow thier deaths,,,Wendy takes a pause before she picks up the phone, foreshadowing how she almost gets away. Jamie Lee Curtis misses phone call, survives. Clever!
I have the soundtrack on vinyl. Only 500 were made!

I love Prom Night as well as the soundtrack (Paul Zaza and Carl Zittrer have done others since). Took me over 3 decades to get my hands on a Japanese only copy of it and pretty certain Jamie Lee Curtis herself sings on at least two of those disco cuts, would love to ask her to confirm it.

I had completely forgot that Frank Drebin himself, Leslie Neilson was in this one. Yes, Jamie Lee Curtis was good in the film.
Watching this movie, I realized, that I was way too used to watching Carpenter movies. I just kept looking at the background, to see, if the killer would show up, which he of course never did.
The look of the killer isn‘t that great, but more realistic.
I really liked seing Leslie Nielsen in a more serious role. I generally liked the side characters better than the main cast. For a moment, I thought that Nielsen would be the killer, when he disappiered in the end, but in the end fight, the guy moved too quickly, so I guessed it wasn‘t him.
I think the prom scene itself was pretty good, especially the scene, where Curtis and her boyfriend were dancing. Probably my favorite scene of the movie.
I got so confused by the ending (maybe because I watched the last 30 mins a week after I watched the first hour). At first I thought the boyfriend was the brother at the end - so I thought Jamie Lee and the brother were fighting the killer. Then when when we got the reveal I didnt know who it was - until we got the flashback of the brother. Then it finally clicked. Also, I have to admit, after them cutting away on every kill, the decapitation caught me off guard. It was well done.
when i was a kid and saw this, before the reveal, i thought it was the mother who jamie was seeing at the end.
I Fucking love this movie, haven’t watched it in a long time so I really need to buy it. I remember I was around 8 and I saw this on vhs at a car boot sale and I convinced my gran to buy it for me and I must of watched it around 100 times lol!

A slasher classic. The kills are great, the atmosphere is great, Jamie Lee is great. Love the opening scene. Not the best look for a killer though.
Really?? I agree with all you said but I actually LOVE the killers look. Like the sleekness & simpleness to it while in the environment of the Prom it looks so creepy and stylish

I really enjoy your channel and I love slasher movies too especially ones from the 1980s. I'm watching this movie now and I really like the revenge angle, acting, kills, pacing etc. I got Carrie vibes too.
Another early 80s slasher that is pretty decent is 'he knows your alone' I'm pretty certain it's Tom hanks first appearance in a movie!! Check it out Lee

even though slasher movie is pretty much popular with certain amount of people but it is still the most hated genre of movie there is but yet superhero, drama, and "comedy" movies is more popular

I do enjoy Prom Night, but Jamie Lee wasn’t given much to do. However, I liked the fact that it showed what goes around comes around even tho what the kids did was an accident.
Wendy always seemed like the one who deserved it to me. She was not a nice person in my opinion. Nick (Kim bf) seemed remorseful for his role. Jude seemed indifferent and Kelly was paranoid about it
Another top review. This one us better than the prowler ( although that movie is pretty epic). Good characters, good acting, and as yoy say jamie lee is stunning.

Love this movie. Love the atmosphere of the opening scene. I haven't seen this movie in a few years but doesn't Alex's Mother ask if anyone had seen her lipstick because she was going out for dinner? Stage Fright, Just Before Dawn, Happy Birthday To Me, Pieces and Slumber Party Massacre are some good 80's slashers to check out if you haven't seen them yet.
Edit: Just scrolled through the movie and at 45 minutes in Jamie Lee's mother ask if she had seen her red lipstick. I don't think it ever explains why Alex decided to wear it though.

The lipstick was another red herring. The filmmaker wanted to create the illusion that the killer could be a woman like in the same year of the film Friday the 13th Jason's mother a woman was the killer. So the audience would think that the killer would be possibly Kim's mother or Kim herself or any other woman in the movie who would want revenge for Robin's death.
I think Happy Birthday to Me is slightly better. It stands with My Bloody Valentine. Love those Canadian actors. You should review Happy Birthday to Me.
Hey Lee, great review!! Between you, Cody Leach and Sinister Cinema I get my horror fix. As for Jamie Lee she is awesome. I like the fact that she is proud of her start in horror films unlike Kevin Bacon (Friday The 13th). She also thanks John Carpenter for giving her start in Halloween when they couldn't get Annie Lockhart. And you are 100% right about Lou, she is way too fine.

You can’t exactly blame Kevin Bacon not being proud of being in a horror movie after being in ‘Animal House’. However he got the best death in ‘Friday the 13th’...ever!
Funny timing on this review. A few days ago, was looking through my recommends on Amazon Prime, and listed this one, Prom Night 2, and Prom Night 4, couldn't find 3, but added the other ones to my Watchlist. I've seen all 4 of them, and the remake, but it's been awhile, so I do feel it would be fun to rewatch them.

I literally just watched this today! The disco music drives me crazy though.
Haha they don't overdo it in this one like they did with Terror Train.
The soundtrack was an original composition for the movie and they got sued over the similarity to other disco tracks at the time.

I love Prom Night!!! One of my favorite horror films and slasher movies. It gets some hate and most people put Prom Night 2 over this film,but I'd disagree. The sequels are overall good,but this is film is still the best!

I'm so happy to see you're doing a review of this movie and also Prom Night 2: Hello Mary Lou, you're completely right, this movie keeps your attention during the entire development of the story, is not slow or boring, the opening scene I think is one of the creepiest in slasher movies and of course Jaime Lee did it again playing this kind of fragile but strong heroine, she's wonderful in her role.

This one is my FAVORITE slasher fr!!!! I literally love it so much. I seen it for the first time at 10 years old and it’s just so nostalgic for me. The killers look is amazing, man I thought you would mention Wendy’s Chase scene it’s a STANDOUT! The movie ends so sad too😭

Nice, I’ve been waiting for this one! This is one of my favourite slasher films. I love the disco feel, I love just how creepy it can be, I love the characters, and that slow throat slit is, to me, one of the scariest scenes from a slasher film. This movie is what would happen if you mixed Carrie, Black Christmas, and Halloween, and man, is it a good mix. I’m glad to own the Synapse blu-ray.
Like I’ve been saying Lee, check out May. It is, to me, the best slasher of the 2000s, and I know you love slashers. It only really becomes a slasher in the last half hour, but everything before that is just as perfect. It’s a great look at awkwardness, loneliness, and the effect it can have. It’s funny and charming at first, and gradually starts to become heartbreaking. Sorry if I sound like I’m pestering, but I’d love May to get more recognition, and I’d also love to see your thoughts.

SO glad you reviewed this movie and revisited it. It’s definitely got style. But the generic soundtrack (that they did because they couldn’t get the rights to I Will Survive and other songs) makes it a horror classic. It’s just FUN.
I don’t think a movie has ever made me sympathetic to every victim AND the killer. The characters were genuinely likeable.
Great review bro I bought this movie on DVD on eBay it also came with the remake I actually liked it the Remake better but going by what you said on your review is that the DVD copy was a lot darker and you couldn't really tell what was going on in some scenes and that's why I didn't like the originals much because I really can't tell what the hell's going on at the end of the movie so I may have to just chalk it up to a bad copy get the Blu-ray copy and check it out again

I do remember the opening scene watching it as a little kid around elementary school year how that little girl fell didn't recall anything after that and so sometime I watched in my junior year again never knew there was a second part tho is it still a slasher/whodoneit

Just watched your review of Prom Night. I'm also a huge fan of this flick. Yes of course it's got its quirks. BUT! It's a cult classic that's just a solid good slasher. Jamie Lee made 1980 the year age became THEE Scream Queen. Prom Night, Terror Train and The Fog all came out in 1980. Great review on o e of my old favs. I gotta suggestion for ya. How about a review on the Changeling? Also a 1980 gem. Hands down one of my top 3 all time fav movies.

Because of wardrobe, it was never, ever apparent in Halloween, but in this film, we all see how absurdly awesome JLC's tits were. And that deserves retroactive respect to Carpenter for not going cheesebal and focusing on that in Halloween! This film to me was entertaining but ultimately forgettable. Seemed too derivative of so many things that came before it. The only reason I watched it was because of the Halloween connection with JLC, and I don't think I've watched it in 30 years. And yet somehow I sleep at night just fine.
I will say that I used to dislike Prom Night, but it's grown on me throughout the years. Still, it must be said, because it's absolutely true: The best thing that came out of Prom Night is that we got Hello, Mary Lou: Prom Night 2. :)
This movie is like a slasher Carrie but it's a good film I Know What You Did Last Summer borrowed elements from this film and I like that the killer kept ignoring his sister when he tried killing the last person who's involved in their sister death Prom Night a underrated slasher film I ignore the sequels.
It really does feel like Carrie.

The high school is literally across the street from my apartment here in Toronto Don mills collegiate School, it's exactly the same I'll go take some pictures and send them to you send me your email like I said it's literally across the street , that beginning part where the kids are playing is at the old queen st mental institution I think it's gone now but the main scenes in the school and the ending where Nick dies outside the school is about 500 metres from my apartment lol

I haven't seen the first one. I have the third one, which follows an entirely different killer, a ghost by the name of Mary Lou. It's okay.
Mary Lou is the killer in the 2nd as well.
I'll just say that the set-up for 3 is that she escapes hell and returns to the high school she died. She helps a guy become more popular in school, in exchange for killing those she believes will get in his way.
It's got some inventive kills and a decent twist ending, but the story leaves a little to be desired. Also, look out for an onscreen cameo from the boom mic in one shot of the film.

Cheesy 80's Slasher fun at it's best. Prom Night is a great watch but don't watch the remake. Looking forward to the review on the Prowler, a very good slasher but lost in the mire of time. You should like it. You should also review Terror Train, while nowhere near the quality of Halloween or even Prom Night it's a must for the early Jaime Lee trifecta of the early 80's and yet another films form our friends to the Great White North.
I can't stand the remake!
It has to be one of the worst remakes ever, deserves the BOOT!!
