- Are you looking for a fast and easy knot to connect your braid to a fluorocarbon leader? While the FG knot ( • How to Tie the "Super"... ) reigns supreme (durable and smooth through guides), it's more challenging to learn and time-consuming to tie in the boat.
Jacob Wheeler (wired2.fish/WheelerFishingYou...) shares one of his preferred on-the-go knots for joining fishing lines. He calls it the Yucatan or no-name knot, although both are a bit of a misnomer (a variation of the Yucatan). Whatever it's called, it's easy and fast to tie when you don't want to waste time on the water. Most importantly, it's never failed him with a fish on the line.

Best knot I’ve used for Flouro to Braid. Super easy!
The FG knot is more about feeding thru the rod guides. Been catching heavy strippers in the Mendocino surf, where the undertow current puts huge stress on knots as we try to beach them. In my experience, the most reliable knot I ever needed to attach braid to fluro is a double Uni knot, and now, I tie the Alberto knot. My uniformity tests on the Alberto knot, using 30 lb. braid to 20 lb. fluro and I get up 90% (27 lbs.) of line strength before failure.

The next big innovation in line will be the elimination of knots between braid and fluorocarbon and use of a bonding agent and/or a small micro sleeve each line end can feed into and be sealed with heat or epoxy to bond the two lines together. People hate tying knots and a good engineer will put an end to the cumbersome knots. I am working on some innovations now to solve this problem.
Finally! My first successful braid to flouro knot! Ive broke wvery knot ive tried so far. This one held....On the third try 😅😂🤦♂️
If you practice a FG you can tie about as fast on the water..its just my confidence knot :)

The Yucatan knot is my go to over the FG due how fast I can tie it. And it's strong.
I finally graduated to tying my own leaders instead of fishing straight mono/floro. But I haven’t used those rods since cause I’m worried they’ll break
Do you typically use suffix advance main line flouro as your leader line (not the suffix advance flouro leader )? Almost all “leader” brands are so outrageously expensive I’m curious if using main line as a leader would work well especially if you’re using it

If you practice the FG knot enough you can tie one in less than 3 minutes
Crazy Alberto with 8 wraps can be tied in no time at all and goes through guides just as good as the FG and is pretty much just as strong. If I wanted to braid stuff, I would've went to hair school lol
