Very fascinating the way you bring the light up with the darker base. I am having a difficult time trying to establish the correct value for each plane. Possibly my sky is too dark and throws off the entire painting. I heard you say that a lot of beginners quit too soon or have unrealistic expectations of how quick they should finish the painting compared to you. I will keep that in mind when I get frustrated I cannot get the value correct the first time.

It can also help to create shades of a color. Start with the deepest color in the foreground and add white to it in increasing levels for each layer going back. So you end up with 4 or 5 tones of the same color. That way you can just use that one for the layer you are working on. And you know the values will be right. Do it for your main blue and pink and then tone them with other colors as needed.

Love this painting, and appreciate all the work you put into teaching these tutorials. Could we possibly use raw umber; unbleached titanium, and possibly burnt orange to achieve the base background?

Yes I think that would be pretty. It would be more earthy.

The video shows that it's 4 hours long but there's only 2 hours of video...there is no first half when you try to watch. Maybe it hasn't finished uploading-- at least I hope because I was really looking forward to watching this one!

Where’s the beginning of this video? I’m a subscriber and a Patron but honestly your UA-cam tutorials are just getting longer and longer and longer. I just can’t spend 3-4 hours watching them, let alone the time to paint one. Just sayin- the time just keeps getting out of control. 🤷‍♀️😐
