I don't mind at all when people skip optional bosses in challenge runs. But it's funny to me that you skipped a lot, yet opted to take on gwyndolin, the most optional boss.
I was thinking the same, turns out I never searched about kalameet tail weapon even though I knew it has one I just didn't bother knowing Edit: just some typos I didn't see in 12 days.
Dragon weapons in general are really cool looking, they're just killed by zero scaling and hefty repairs. I'm a personal fan of the greatsword from the ash lake dragon, not quite as cool looking but it's fun.
@@FrytranslationvanossHe’s already enough of a beast and normally if something is worthwhile in a souls game you’ll be spoiled ahead of time. Tail cuts were always annoying in this game.
- At 13:50 you managed to stagger Artorias because you hit with both the weapon and the AOE (you can see a 93 DMG proc followed by the 217 which totaled 310 DMG), on the second one where you didn't stagger you just hit with the AOE (Only dealt 217 DMG). - I know this might not have been in the spirit of the run and omitted on purpose, but you can buff the weapon; the buff is also applied to the AOE. Either using resins or pumping INT for Cristal Magic Weapon and Repiar or faith for Sunlight Blade would work wonders. If you want to be minimalist you can go up to 15 INT to get repair and Great Magic Weapon and use the Oolacile Ivory Catalyst. This will give you an additional 200 magic damage without using Hypermode and infinite durability at a pretty low cost in terms of souls. PS: For those struggling against Manus using a DEX build, a short bow (Preferably the Composite Bow) can almost trivialize that fight, not only due to fighting from range, but a hit to the head is an instant stagger and a weak point too. I kid you not, using Hypermode(Red Tear Stone Ring + Power Within) with the Composite Bow and Large Arrows allowed me to kill Manus in 6 Headshots without him ever being able to move. I reckon without Hypermode would take 15 Headshots at most and Manus's ranged attacks are as slow as molasses and have a ton of end lag, more than enough to line up your shots and pelt him down.
@@jajasking9652 Yeah, feathered arrows + Hawk Ring should be enough even with a short bow, although it would be faster if you use the black bow. But i personally find it more fun and almost equally easy to stagger him to death like Queelag, not to mention faster.
A tip since you spent so long grinding in the Valley of the Drakes: the Covetous Gold Serpent Ring in Sen's Fortress would've definitely helped and I'm surprised you didn't go there considering it opened right before you went to grinding, and having humanity would've increased your item discovery (to a max of 10 humanity). That would've saved you a lot of time. You also could've just killed the undead dragon in the Valley of Drakes, which drops one, or killed the hydra in Darkroot Basin (which I see you ended up doing). Some criticisms of the video (and I'm sorry if I come off as condescending, I'm just trying to be helpful): - It's honestly pretty tempting to just click off of the video after the beginning montage 'cause you essentially answer the video title's question within the first minute. It's not a bad idea, but with part of the appeal of challenge runs being the question of if the challenge is possible (which isn't always the case) means the rest of the video loses the inherent tension of a challenge run; and the lack of visual variety (since you're just doing the same attack over and over) makes the montage feel like it's taking forever. - Considering this is a challenge run with a specific weapon (the obsidian greatsword in this case), you should've at least given an overview of the weapon you're using (where you get it, its stats, etc., and showing off its moveset, perhaps). I had to search up what the weapon was as I had never seen it before, and from the comments, the same was the case for many others. You could've done more than just put "obsidian greatsword sweep" in the description. - I'm unsure if you meant to say you're going to use the slowest attack (because it's the only attack you're using during the run) or if you're saying the obsidian greatsword is Dark Souls' slowest weapon; if it was the former, the title should reflect that (as I was questioning why you were only using the two-handed heavy attack) and you should've explained that in the video. Because if it was the latter, then you have an entire moveset you could still be using, especially because of how important weapon durability and repair powder is for this run, that wouldn't melt your weapon durability. Otherwise, this was a cool run!! It's kinda wild that low damage wasn't ever really a factor considering dragon weapons have no scaling. Didn't even need to use any damage buffs. I suppose it's because of how late you get the obsidian greatsword (if you do the DLC right before fighting Gwyn). I also like your choice of music :3
i do know the things about item discovery, i mean, I play dark souls weekly for my runs. regarding your critiques: - i think challenge runs are more about HOW you do something, since for a majority of challenges, the answer is literally always yes. "can you beat dark souls with fists only" is a question ill get and they want to see, its obviously possible, the question is HOW do you do it. regarding it feeling like it goes on forever, i showed the intro to many people, and nobody said that, that may just be your personal preference, and the original vision was for it to go on for 3 minutes, so idk 1 minute isnt bad - the descriptions of my videos aren't really meant to supplement my videos, just reflect my thoughts on the video. the into montage gives you the exact overview of the weapon, its approx damage, and judging by the fact i used ONE attack in the montage on literally all the bosses, i feel like its a bit nitpicky to say that the fact im using an obscure attack on an obscure weapon isn't well known, after i showed what im doing for a minute. - i think weapon is a better title personally, but thats just my preference, i dont think its confusing when you watch the video and im talking about the one attack otherwise, thank you for your feedback and im glad you enjoyed, and liked my music. music is a big part of my videos to me :3
@@YourAverageSpelunker Ah, I just said the thing about the item discovery 'cause it didn't look like you had any humanity in your footage of you being in the Valley of the Drakes and you didn't mention ever getting the Gold Serpent Ring. The lack of scaling makes it so this weapon can make good use of buffs like sunlight blade and crystal magic weapon, which get applied to the special attack.
Amazing video!!! This must have been quite the challenge.
