I always use a double barbless hook when spinning. Never trebles.

I use single barbless size 8 or 10 on all my lures. Yes, you lose some fish, but the majority are hooked well, and the hook is removed in a matter of seconds, more often than not without even having to handle the fish.

They are probably blackening polypore mushrooms, it is edible cardboard. Or known as giant polypore, at the base of beech trees, years later it will kill the tree.

Yes, looks like Meripilus giganteus which, as you say, will eventually kill the tree.

Least you had one fella. If you ever fancy some trout fishing, come and have a day on the wharfe, otley stretch. It's private fishing but I could get you on as a guest. It's absolutely full of trout. It's all I ever catch. Last 2 years was catching chub and dace with the odd surprise. Some grayling too. This year. All I've caught is trout. And there's some big en's too.

Looks like you're damaging the fish's mouths, how about barbless?

    • @samramage3907

A lot of people will argue that barbless do more damage look it up there’s big arguments for either side

Every hook damages a mouth stop moaning or stop fishing, I only use barbless so if one gets tethered it has a chance, not really concerned about a 3 mm cut now and then which will heal well before anyone re catches that fish, btw you could of taken and eaten anyway….lucky fish.

It was the most delicate unhooking

Above all else, barbless enables you to get the fish back quickly, trout don't do well once they've been out of the water more than 10 seconds or so.
If you spend half a minute trying to get a barbed hook out it's pointless returning a trout, because it will be dead soon after swimming away. Lots of research gone into this. 👍

    Use barbless use some sense
