Too far, for me, I’d be sat right next to the rods. But it’s now seen as the norm, to be well away from your rods next to your car or bivvy in modern barbel fishing on places like the Trent. I suppose it’s ok if you have stable rod rests, and aren’t fishing near snags.
Used to get some monsters out of East Stoke on the Newark Fed stretch, all quality fish. There also used to be quite a few at Kelham as well when the council owned the Hall and you could fish it. That was a great small stretch of water, you could either feeder fish near the snags for the real big ones or trot a stick down the middle over a bed of hemp and maggot, 100lb of fish was easily possible if you hit it right. Winthorpe was another top spot but it’s a bit too popular for my liking now.
Love this. Cracking little session. Really enjoy your videos man. I got my hoody and t-shirt today aswell just like you said. Proper chuffed with them can't wait to get baggin with them on this weekend. I've not caught a barbel yet either, none of them in my local stretch of river sadly. Maybe one day I'll get to a river with them in.

Take a little trip over the the U.S.A!! Visit Cincinnati & spend and couple days on the amazing Ohio River, I'd show you some spots to film some awesome videos!
Adam mate, if you want to fish by design and cancel out them smaller fish, up your bait size and don't fish for a bite. 21mm Less fish but more proper one's! 👍🎣
I used to use that exact method on the don . It's a real waiting game but it caught me a few doubles and plenty of 8lb plus fish. If I fed I got pestered by chub.
Love watching these vids! So down to earth & top angling 🎣 just bought the book 👍🏻
Thanks for the support, it all goes towards the videos and helping kids get on the bank with free fishing tackle. 🫡

On the ribble it can be straight led even without mass pressure, conditions are paramount .

How do you manage to fish with 4 rods in such a tight space and narrow river and not get tangled up ?
I used to use that exact method on the don . It's a real waiting game but it caught me a few doubles and plenty of 8lb plus fish. If I fed I got pestered by chub.
Funny how you found the crab there as every time I have a night out in Nottingham I come home with a few crabs 🤔🤣
