"You fall in love with lonely, you end up that way". Literally for years, no song has been able to speak to my heart like this one. Bruce knows dark places, but he manages to see the light. And I am so glad he shares it with us.
My mum loved Bruce Springsteen, and I've become one through her influence. She died last month, but this song makes me think of all the times she called me her sunshine, as she was mine. Thank you Bruce, for this song. Eager to hear the rest of the album!
I hope that you, especially new or never Bruce fans will read this. Bruce suffers with occasional depression. In his early 30's and later when he was 62, he fought it hard, not able to get out of bed in the morning. This song is about depression. The false comfortableness of being in it as it feels warm to start, (You know I always like those empty towns) then the consequence sets in (sometimes you get too close to the blues, if you keep walking you walk away) the first line of each verse is the first slip into depression, the second line is is the warning, the drop. The 3rd line is the despair. Hello sunshine won't you stay" is the mind of the depressed person craving normalcy, relief, happiness. It is a cry for help, it is looking and fighting through the desperation and isolation. It is not about giving up or giving in. It is about hope it is about fighting in the mind for the happiness to stay with you. For anyone who has suffered depression, this will hit you hard and give you hope that the sunshine will stay. Some people on this thread have called this a pop song. In fact it is one of the Boss's finest song. Soul searching and and showing the understanding of one who has lived through the experiences. Every verse is an analogy a parable. It is reminiscent of songs such as "You're missing" Brilliant disguise" The female character in "Jungeland in the room shutting out the lights. Instead of looking at it from the perspective of an event creating loneliness and despair, it is an introspective song written in the first person and coming from the perspective of feelings which well up inside which stem from events, caused or chemical imbalance. I find this to be one of his finest works and the only song which delves into mental health as deeply as "Fall into love with lonely, that"s how you'll stay.
For sure, one of Bruce´s most autobiographic songs - beautiful and delicate, but sad and hard too. It´s Tunnel of Love album with more pain and sadness, I guess. Best wishes, Gavin. Greetings from São Paulo, Brazil.
Those lyrics come from a dark place. A man who has given so much sunshine to people over the world for the past 50 years who is open enough to share his inner demons with his audience through a beautiful tender song. A living legend.
That is so true. I'm going through a dark time at the moment and have just found this new song. It touches me deeply, it's like an old friend is speaking who knows a lot about this big void.
Medicine and talking works well. It takes courage. When I held the pain in I suffered more. Later, I would become a teacher of very young children. I knew I could reach them and give them love and acceptance they would learn to love themselves and realize they could receive love. I still have these adults today that tell me the difference that love made. We love the music of Bruce Springsteen. He writes and sings his pain. Write your feelings down. Think what you can do to help yourself feel better. There are a lot of good books to read. That started me out in college. Yes, I still suffer from things done and said to me, but I am not a victim. I am a survivor. I just turned 67 and I a successful person in my own right. I say so now not my tormentors. Life will change and it takes time. Drugs and alcohol will not help. You can do this. Just set your mind and begin. You are in charge of yourself. A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Don't let the stupid people win! I believe in you and I love you, too. God bless you.
The mind is a easy spot to waste, but a wide room into to grow up, at the other hand! Let God bless your suffering and scars and your there being for yourself!
The day I got to meet God, I mean Bruce, I was interviewed by a news outlet, here in Portland, OR. and was almost asked that very question. More like, when he retires, what will you do. I've been in the hospital for last two weeks. A leg infection that almost cost me my leg. They got the infection out. This morning they transferred me to a nursing home to finish process (insurance reasons-I'm only 51! Lol). I get here. Check wifi.(couldn't get a signal where I was). Chk mssgs. Swipe to UA-cam. I got a feeling the sunshine gonna stay. New album? Tour? Brooooooooce. Thanks brother.
Elvis Presley didn't like Bruce Springsteen. Elvis had very little respect for somebody who would climb over his fence and try to invade his privacy. Elvis was a righteous man. Bruce is and will always be some punk from New Jersey. Bruce knows it. That's why he's a shame-based achiever.
@@andrewcunningham7647 Play any one of these songs next to an Elvis Presley song. Presley has a sense of excitement and emotional content. Presley's music and lyrics evoke an emotional response. Springsteen's work is emotionally flat. A boring monotone. I know he's done some stuff that was relevant. This album isn't very good. It's poor in content and form. They're just so many people that are better than this. Tragic.
This will go down as an all time Boss classic! It has that amazing feeling of familiarity yet sounds fresh and new all at the same time. Poignancy never sounded so sweet .
I remember being 10yrs old (1981) and my older brother sitting me down, putting headphones on me and saying just listen to this full album. The album was "Greetings from Asbury Park N.J" and that was the beginning of a lifelong love and admiration of Bruce Springsteen. 38 yrs later, and he's still my #1 fav musician, artist, song writer you name it. Long live "The Boss"

Well, he is a rock star. He's not a truck driver, nor does he farm the land or get cattle in. Singing about those things doesn't make him representative of the people who do. It just makes him a good musician. But he's still a celebrity, with a celebrity lifestyle.

@@robman404 Not sure there is a name for it, maybe south-west folk rock pop of the late sixties/early seventies. The band that I'm thinking of is America, others have mentioned Glen Campbell. Maybe the Eagles. It was music of the highway and the desert, but not Country.
I was on the road and stopped for breakfast. As i was eating i heard the words of this song and the words sounded like the way I see and feel.. Turned on sound sound and was surprised it was Springsteen singing my thoughts of a life i used to have. It matched so well, the images created by his words are so real.

This sounds very nostalgic and a bit depressing but also full of hope at the same time. This sounds... great. (And I love the "Everybody's Talkin'" vibe!)
I first saw Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band at the Harvard Sq. Theatre in Cambridge, Ma. backing up Bonnie Raitt in 1974. He was amazing back then. I saw him several times those next three years at different clubs & concert halls in Cambridge & Boston. He's still amazing to this day! Thanks "Boss!"
No place to be and miles to go But miles to go is miles away - a classic Bruce "golden line." A lot going on there, did anyone else hear the steel pedal guitar?
Wow what a great song and spirit to this one. Such simple yet masterful lyrics that capture the nuance and yet the crushing edge of depression and everyone's day to day struggle for a little bit of peace. A little bit of happiness. Wow the sound is classic yet the song is fresh. Someone used the word 'sublime' and I think that fits. I bet on Bruce 40 years ago... and now at 57 his music means more to me than ever. I live on the NJ shore.... I have met Bruce, seen him play in bars (he does this day) long after he was a rock n roll legend and he always been MORE than you ever imagine yet as real as it gets. Watch the Netflix Bruce on Broadway and not be moved! This song is another wonderful track from one Mr. Bruce Fredrick Springsteen.

Yes, and, 'Good Time Charlie's Got The Blues', tones to it, too. IMO.
Once again The Boss composing the soundtrack of our lives, Great!!!
Looking forward to hearing the whole disc.
So you say we all have the same life?
I think each individual interprets what the "soundtrack" is depending on their own personal circumstances. there are so many people that feel that way about his music.
This is what i call a real masterpiece. Thank you so much Mr.Bruce Springsteen.
he has so many...
"You can get a little too fond of the blues" A song about depression and isolation and his quest to find happiness("Hello sunshine won't you stay?")
I think the narrator has found happiness, but is worried about keeping it-asking, “Sunshine, won’t you stay?”
You know I always loved a lonely town...
Those empty streets, no one around...
You fall in love with lonely, you end up that way ♥️
Bruce my hero for over 40 years,Danny Federici was my friend and we hooked up and me my wife and my young family stayed at the bands hotel in Manchester 1989 tunnel of love tour,we drove out over the snake pass to the first of the Sheffield gigs,we drove back after the concert and in the early hours of the morning i walked side by side with Bruce into the foyer of the hotel, who was there?Roy Orbison, yes right there,my hero Bruce greets one of his hero"s Roy Orbison,it does not get better! it has lived with me all these years and Bruce and the E Street band have been part of my life since i was 17 years old when i first heard the opening chords of born to run.God bless Danny and God bless you Bruce for giving hope and joy through your music to millions of people around the world.Cant wait to hear the new album.
I presume you mean 1988 as bruce played Sheffield in July 88 and Roy died in December 88
I have a sweet spot for Springsteen! Can't wait for the whole album!!
MMMM SWEEEEEET
I've been in the hospital for last two weeks. A leg infection that almost cost me my leg. They got the infection out. This morning they transferred me to a nursing home to finish process (insurance reasons-I'm only 51! Lol).
I get here. Check wifi.(couldn't get a signal where I was). Chk mssgs. Swipe to UA-cam. What do I find? First thing.
This gem of a song. What a blessing. Truly. My leg is saved. I've run a few marathons, and wasn't digging the idea of losing it. Lol.
Thanks Bruce. I got a feeling the sunshine gonna stay.
New album? Tour? Brooooooooce. Thanks brother.
All the best with you health.
@@RM-lj8bv thx man. Appreciate it.
Good luck
Elvis & Springsteen..... 2 American legends that enrich the soul.

Amen the king and the boss
Elvis Presley didn't like Bruce Springsteen. Elvis had very little respect for somebody who would climb over his fence and try to invade his privacy. Elvis was a righteous man. Bruce is and will always be some punk from New Jersey. Bruce knows it. That's why he's a shame-based achiever.
@@ericheine2414 bollocks
@@andrewcunningham7647 Play any one of these songs next to an Elvis Presley song. Presley has a sense of excitement and emotional content. Presley's music and lyrics evoke an emotional response.
Springsteen's work is emotionally flat. A boring monotone. I know he's done some stuff that was relevant. This album isn't very good. It's poor in content and form. They're just so many people that are better than this. Tragic.
Whether you like Springsteen or not, you cannot dispute the beautiful simplicity of Hello Sunshine.
oh my GOSH. i’m so in love with this song and the sound. this album is about to be so good!
Miles to go is miles away! So can relate
@@lloydcharley9465 Right?! That line got me, too.
Best album since 1987 Tunnel of Love
This will go down as an all time Boss classic! It has that amazing feeling of familiarity yet sounds fresh and new all at the same time. Poignancy never sounded so sweet .
Well saint jack you sure need to change the ones u r taking.
Been waiting 5 years for new music from Bruce.
The new album also comes out on June 14 ♡
Aaw, and how does it feel? :)
TrunksWD sorry it sucks
It’s actually been 7 years
And he brings out a country song, haha!!
Mike Hughes you must be the only other Northern Souler who like Bruce too! KTF ✊🏻
@@BaronVonPenguin Absolutely.... I was also brainwashed as a kid lol, by My sister & bro in-law who went to Wigan Casino. KTF Matey...... ✊

Mike Hughes, you’re just a few years younger than my brother; and I’m probably just a few years older than your brother. It’s funny how family dynamics work. And how the little things our brothers did are so important. Peace ☮️ ✌️ to you.

OMG! Wonderful. close your eyes and .... fly away... and feeling coming home. Great Song! Goes directly into the heart and gives a warm and peaceful feeling. We need this in this cold and brutal times. Love from Germany, Stefan
Definitely a feeling of peace after some rough spots. I love it!! 🌹

No wonder that this incredible man has fans from age of 2 to like 110 ! Amazing !
As a New Jersey guy that after 40 years I still can't get over leaving New Jersey, all his songs touch my heart but in these dark times I'm going through it's even worse thank you Boss, I couldn't help but notice the New Jersey plates on the beautiful El Camino.
How is Beautiful this song! Thanks Bruce!!!
Thank God he's still around to offer real songs at a time where almost everything seems lost in pose and narcissism...
Agree
Well, he is a rock star. He's not a truck driver, nor does he farm the land or get cattle in. Singing about those things doesn't make him representative of the people who do. It just makes him a good musician. But he's still a celebrity, with a celebrity lifestyle.

Clicked on this looking for a different song. Stayed. By the end almost in tears. Play again.
Bruce has again released a song that describes verbatim my stage in life. Relatable for 40 years and once again. Lovely sound.
Agreed. Haven't related to a song as much as this one in quite some time.
If you got that blue spot in your soul and you listen to this song ten times on repeat you will never get it out of your system again - it’s to beautiful to be true❤️
Bruce restore my faith in humanity through his music.
I wondered why you are called the Boss; today I have the answer. Bruce Springsteen ; you are really the Boss. Many thanks for such a good song.
Despite global success, as the poet wrote..
Bruce still has promises to keep
and miles to go, before he sleeps...
welcome back, Boss...
Never Heard it, new
You take the old, you make it new. You are Jack of all trades. And that is art. 👏
same name ??????????
Wow, the orchestral touch with a western taste and the voice of The Boss, ingredients for an absolute old school masterpiece.
Congratiulations from Germany. Another Masterpiece for the Bruce Springsteen History
Yes. One of so many...
Hello how you doing and nice to meet you
Bruce, here is to Hope... that your miles become shorter and that your sunshine always stays. Simply... Beautiful!
I can almost hear Danny playing organ toward the tail end of this gorgeous song.
I can't stop playing this. It is beautiful and touches me on so many levels.

Me too dear lady sublime song and very touching .one of the best by bruce .
I heard this on the radio while driving home with my dad. sun hitting my face, watching things go by. I don’t usually like this type of music, but this song was part of a such beautiful memory. 🌞
Wow, this is so unexpected. But so cool. One of my favorite styles/periods of music has just been given the Springsteen treatment. Blown away...again
What would you call this?
@@robman404 Not sure there is a name for it, maybe south-west folk rock pop of the late sixties/early seventies. The band that I'm thinking of is America, others have mentioned Glen Campbell. Maybe the Eagles. It was music of the highway and the desert, but not Country.
@@evilynn333 EXACTLY. Perfect description.
In a fast forward, one touch, heartless world, the Boss is like a cool breeze on a hot summer night. The wait is over!!
I was on the road and stopped for breakfast. As i was eating i heard the words of this song and the words sounded like the way I see and feel.. Turned on sound sound and was surprised it was Springsteen singing my thoughts of a life i used to have. It matched so well, the images created by his words are so real.
Won't you stay, Bruce Springsteen, won't you stay!!!!!
GREAT ! I think I 'm gonna listen this song at least a thousand times today , very beautiful song , and I wait impatiently the album release on the 14 th of june !

A legend is this artist. great
I first saw Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band at the Harvard Sq. Theatre in Cambridge, Ma. backing up Bonnie Raitt in 1974. He was amazing back then. I saw him several times those next three years at different clubs & concert halls in Cambridge & Boston.
He's still amazing to this day!
Thanks "Boss!"

When I listen to this song, it seems that the world stops and I keep dreaming ... wonderful! ❤❤❤

One of his best songs ever! This is amazing, wonderful song, lyrics, music, video! Thank you Bruce!
No place to be and miles to go
But miles to go is miles away
- a classic Bruce "golden line." A lot going on there, did anyone else hear the steel pedal guitar?
No :( What minute?
In headphones, in the chorus, it's very obvious. Also prominent in the outro. All the classic instrumentation is there. Beautiful .
Loud and clear ;)
Touches the soul! Keep listening to this song over and over. Thank you Bruce!
Heck ya!!
♥️♥️♥️ Hello Sunshine🌼 Won’t You Stay? Love ya Brucie !!!💋💋💋
