- An upload now from back in 1988 and we see British Rail in the blue & grey era. At Peterborough see Met-Cam DMU's, a 317, 47 on a freight and class 31 on the Norwich-Birmingham regional service. At March station we see a DMU and class 47 hauled freight train before heading to Whitemoor Yard to see some of the withdrawn locos that were stored there-classes 03, 20, 45 & 47. Lines of Peaks...breaks the heart...
Yes, i think most had just been switched off on one of the timetable changes......
Cracking footage
Some lovely variety there, never knew there was a shuttle between Peterborough and Cambridge! :-)
Yes, the local railways then were different from today. BR recast the local services just after this time when the 31s were replaced on the Norwich-Birmingham's with 158s and it went hourly. Local services were recast also, this DMU service is probaly one that dates back from the 50s or beyond!
Soi Buakhao Oh wow, I never did realise how different BR’s timetables were. It’s good to see these captured in your footage nonetheless! :-)
@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus do you have any footage of the 89?
Blast from the past, thanks for sharing 😁
My pleasure, i do have more.......
Such a sad sight for a 'Peak Fan'
👍
Yes, it was a real Peak graveyard although a few other types were dumped here. The whole place had an air of dereliction about it... Hard to believe it was the biggest yard in europe at one time......
Very nostalgic 👍
Thank you....
Superb video 👍🏻
Thank you. I do have more ......
How much money left lying around in those diesels. Spare parts paradise, did any go into heritage railways? I Hope so.
I think they had been stripped to a fair degree from what i remember, probaly by local scrap collectors! You could wander around this yard with ease!
March yard has changed a lot, Think it`s just a Network rail processing depot now
Yes, it's one of their strategic engineering ballast depots. There are several dotted around the country.
Is there a part 2, to this video?
I do have some more from this day for a future upload.....
Those Peaks had just disappeared from the BR network at the time.
I think a lot were just switched off, either at March or at their home depot and towed there. I think the Sprinter & SuperSprinter had a lot to do with it plus a bit of freight loss to boot!
Missed both them and the last quartet at Tinsley. Last to go was fave 45137 Beds Herts Regt. early in 1994 to MCs at Glasgow.
Reastani Bsalpush: Wasn't try redevelopment of all those trains created of electric loco train unit? Loco fuel could smell badly the blackest smoke everywhere in the stations! Should plan redevelopment all loco trains to make an electric unit of the train as usual. That will be saved... Now, is a quite shame, is too little too late to create those loco trains for upgraded it is! :(
