    brilliant scenery. One of the great tourers ever was the BMW 750/5 of the 70s. Amazing where you could take them. Used to have Heinrich Tanks as accessory. The Nine T should be OK if it can carry panniers and kit

    I rode one about 2 weeks ago as a courtesy bike, while the K1300S was being serviced and I want one too. I have to be easily twice your age and I really want one. I don't think I'd ever make the hipster set, don't think I really want to. :) But I really want one. :)

    I love mine but the non adjustable suspension is awful and im swopping it out as cant get any static sag in the rear so you leave the seat over bumps, and im not heavy. Very smooth on smooth roads as stated in vlog but if you want to hussle over bumpier roads you will suffer and even the odd bump catches you out.
    Im not a fast rider either these days
    Still love it suspension change will transform it having talked to owners who have !

    The torque effect is lessened with the telelever front end on the pre 2015 models. My main complaint about the R9T, R1200R and R1200RS is they let the accountants put a price tag on the forks and BMW went for the cheap USD telescopic rather than the wishbone telelever system found on the GS and RT. That said the R9T is fun (as is the RS, which I bounght myself and then sold 3 months later because I could not get comfortable with the of the conventional front end and the seating position was bloody uncomfortable) but I'll be keeping my 2013 1200r for another couple of years.

    • @spicy110
      @spicy110  8 років тому

      +Tony BMW I get the feeling part of the reason they didn't fit the telelever (that I did love on thr gs) is it dosnt fit in with the retro feel of the bike. I have heard many people speak of how they hate the feel of the telelever. So maybe it's a bit of everything. I do also wonder how much the telelever would have effected the RRP, it's not a cheap bike as is.

    • @tonybmw5785
      @tonybmw5785 8 років тому

      spicy110 I'd agree with the view that perhaps a telelever would not retro feel on the R9T, but the decision to fit a conventional front end to the R & RS (which had been telelever) smells like accountants. The main reason why I say this is the handling and the ride in that area where BMW's are supposed to excel, two up with luggage at motorway speeds, found on the 2015 and later R & RS models is nothing like as good as you got the older models.

    • @spicy110
      @spicy110  8 років тому

      +Tony BMW yer on the others I don't follow why they did without it. The front end of the R9T is a little skittish at times

    • @tonybmw5785
      @tonybmw5785 8 років тому

      spicy110 If you get the chance take a ride on one of the old 2-valve models. If you were up north I'd give you a shot on my 35 year old R65LS and I think you'll be surprised about how similar the R9T feels to that in the way it drops its nose into corners and shakes the front end about on the exits when you're cornering enthusiastically.

    I own a BMW r9t and gsx 1000s they are great bikes they are so different they BMW is so row and old school and Suzuki just pulls your arms off I love them both

  • @danmurphy1994
    @danmurphy1994 7 років тому

    The brake is set like that so you can rest your fingers there and pull slightly pre-emptively for a stop, it reduces the amount of time it takes for you to engage the front brake on an emergency stop.

    • @spicy110
      @spicy110  7 років тому

      +Dan Murphy I do that with all brakes I find with the gap it make it unpredictable but it seems a few bikes are like it these days. But they still have progression more so than the r9t. I'm sure you would get used to it.

    Thanks, I did like your review overall. Would be interesting what bikes you`ve ridden prior to the r nine t. The claim that it has a lot of power and pulls really hard would suggest your last bike was a C90 ;) I mean after I test rode it, everything about it seemed soo sweet, just felt a bit gutless. It feels on a par with my GF`s Gladius acceleration wise but doesn`t have the top end of the Suzuki. For a 1200 cc I would expect more oomp but that`s only my opinion.

    ABS module perhaps taking some initial pressure? It does that on my much cheaper bike, resulting in a soft pull; you can bleed it all you like, it'll always do it.

    I love the look of the bike, was admiring one recently in my local bmw dealer. There are some nice touches & you can see where the quality is. Only problem I can see is that I don't think it is a bike to own by itself, probably wouldn't stand up to a British winter, and would be shame to spoil it by doing so.

    • @motorradingaround1220
      @motorradingaround1220 8 років тому

      Think about the country it's made in plus you can add excellent heated grips and there's a plug on side of engine for a heated suit so you could stay warm all time. Bike would also easily start off in second gear if you don't want torque right off the bat if your worried about snow. The wind is moved around you while riding at 75-80mph there isn't much air pushing against you(buffeting)

    I think I could use that bike, on my usual fun rides. Bendy roads in the country are what it's all about. I do those kinds of roads all the time, so I got an impression of the torque from your video, although your ride was very sedate. What a shame it isn't a British bike. You should get one. Save for it - none of that finance shit.

    • @tonydare7614
      @tonydare7614 7 років тому

      Hi, I though of buying the r1200r for a long time for the same reasons. It is faultless but IMHO doesn't excell anywhere. It's fast but it's not a sports bike. It has no wind protection, it's quite heavy although beautifully balanced BUT it isn't that much fun and lacks character. I guess it is a matter of opinion. Test it and see what you think.

    Hi, I tested the r1200r and the r1200gs and they both left me cold. I'm thinking of test riding the r nineT and the Triumph street twin, and retesting the Tiger 800xrx, which I loved the first time round. I'm looking for a city bike capable of day country jaunts, how do you think the r-nine would fair? I've heard that the seat is not very comfortable and a few long-term owners said the sheen wore off after a while. What are your thoughts. Love the look of it anyway and the sound.

  • @mathewlloyd7770
    @mathewlloyd7770 8 років тому

    Hey Spicy. I own one. I totally agree it is the best feeling riding it. I've tried various setups. I've taken the pillion pegs off and had exhaust bracket and ridden it like a bobber. Looked great. I've now added the Rizoma side arm tail tidy with the bullet indicators with integrated brake lights. I love it. I'll try to send you some pics if I can.

    I really like this bike too, surprised you fit on it o.k. This one and the R1200R I just didn't fit, the pegs are too close to the seat and it folds me up too much. I'm an inch taller than you, but with a 37" inseam, maybe that's the difference? I've wanted some form of a naked BMW for years but never fit on them. The GS/A I fit on just fine and I like them, but it's not the same gravity pull for me as just the standard R1200R or the R Nine T.

    that's actually nice. I've never been a fan of Bmw, just becouse of the engine look. I did like the old police BMWs not sure of actual make. but a big machine, I guess that's abit of why they used them, abit intimidating having those on your tail. also great for putting a big sound system in them. I do like the look..but yet if ya a tall guy issues on how long ya back would start acheing. why would you want to not sit naturally. nice sound though, beefy.

    Interesting review Spicy. You seemed to love the GS when you rode that into London. How come you prefer the 9T? A man of your height would seem to be too tall for the 9T. I am 6'2" and have a 9T. I am thinking of changing to a GS for more comfort. It is great for a quick blast and looks amazing. It gets a bit uncomfortable after an hour though. Longer rides and motorway riding are not that good I find.

    Nice video... The r nine t is my dream bike as well, my plan is to get one sometime next year... BUT... My dad bought a KTM 1190 last week and that thing is INSANE and I've totally fallen for it .... It sounds sick, has a lot of power, is easy to maneuver and is very comfortable. Obviously you cant really compare the two but I am a sucker for fast acceleration and good engine noise. So its a very difficult choice...

    • @spicy110
      @spicy110  4 роки тому

      That depends how hard you down shift, Any bike without a slipper clutch will "lock" On my DRZ I am always stamping down the box to use engine braking to the point it starts to lock, not that it really locks just the rotational speed slows lower that your forward momentum so the tyre drags while it's still rotating.

    @spicy110 you're legs are much longer than mine (I'm 5' 5") so I'm pretty sure this is just my problem, but did you have a problem planting both feet on the ground without the foot pegs being in the way?

    • @spicy110
      @spicy110  7 років тому

      +JinkProject no problems at all mainly as im 6'4 so this bike is tiny to me.

      Hey Jink! Im thinking about getting getting this bike and im around your height if not an inch shorter. How's your experience with it - do you have trouble sitting on it?

    I've had 3 BMWs, starting out in 1979. Please ask "Red Renna" Phil Tonic + "Captain Rambunctios" to watch coverage of T 120 + BMW R90R on "Sidestand," UA-cam.
    I subscribe to all of you.

      +Celt Davies no its the same on this bike as it was on the other one I rode. That was my thought in the first but the second was exactly the same and I'm not the first to notice this as it turns out

      if it's got the same linked brakes as the R1200 RS reverse bleed the rear brake with the front brake applied firmly.

    I love that bike, but that boxer engine and manifold is soooo ridiculously ugly as fuck! The GS can pull it off because the body ties in with it nicely, but this... The motor killed the style IMO

    Why did it feel to me like bunch of excuses to justify owning this bike? If you have to work that hard to convince yourself then it’s not worth it at all.
