Fucking finally. Tora is one of my favorite Confidant in Persona 5. He's essentially a microcosm of the ideal politician that Shido and Kunikazu pretend to be.
You would think Tora would at least be a politician Shido beats out directly simply because Shido has the charisma and appeals to the correct people to establish the corrupt government. That would have been a cool demonstration of the situation.
@Ian Taakalla I mean, Shido is mentioned in Tora's Confidant by a few audience members, and they all think that Tora is copying what Shido is talking about. It's very early in the Confidant and not a lot of attention is brought to it, but it's there.
He’s one of the best confidants in the game. I was able to get my hands on a ton of higher level personas because of him. He’s also just a really cool guy who owns up to his mistakes and learns from them to try and improve himself and society
The thing you said about politicians being so detestable in real life got me thinking of how Yoshida feels a lot of remorse over his political mistakes which is part of why we're sympathetic for him. You don't have a lot of politicians in real life admitting their mistakes and feeling remorse over it. For a game where your main characters literally have to change people's hearts to be less corrupted by force it's nice to see a man who changed over time just from his own guilt. If they ever make a Persona game taking place in the past I'd like to see a corrupt young Yoshida before he became more moral and principled. About what would've been a more juicy scandal I think him having an affair might've been a bit too similar to Namatame. Naoto's social link can also be broken in P4 but people talk about that less. About the Mementos compliant I actually agree it is overused to solve people's problems but I think people forget that every Phantom Thief (except Futaba) didn't have a Mementos Request in their confidant and in Sojiro's confidant when they change Futaba's uncle's heart they were too late as investigators still come to Leblanc and the confidant just gets resolved from Futaba proclaiming that Sojiro is a good dad. Nice video. Made me appreciate the possibility of Confidants/Social Links having branching routes.
@@rayvenkman2087 honestly I’d say moon is pretty balanced. Nozomi is cringe yeah but shinjiro is good Ai is a pretty slept on SL imo and Mishima is kinda hit or miss but not terrible
Shinji is great and Ai is absolutely slept on. Mishima isn't super great but I think that might be the point, he's just an ordinary guy who wants to be special and he let his ownership of the phansite get to his head. I can't speak for Nozomi, it's been a very long time since I've played through the male route of p3 as I much prefer playing portable for femc.
When you were talking about if the "three strikes" happened in the US, I was expecting you to say something along the lines of, "It wouldn't be that bad, he would still be able to recover," but the fact that you said it wouldn't even make the NEWS made me laugh so hard because I didn't even consider the possibility, and thinking about it now, it probably wouldn't lmao
Personally one of the reason I like him is because he kinda shows a way forward to Joker. He starts out pretty much exactly like him, framed with a crime he didn’t commit, and yet still persists onward in his goals, him named tarnished and stained. And he manages to pull through without the metaverse, and I think that ties nicely with the end theme that they don’t need to be phantom thieves to change society. Personally, I think it was showing Joker that there are good people trying to shape the world, and his life doesn’t have to be just a phantom thief
When I played Persona 5 vanilla as my first Persona game, I completely missed this Confidant because I never got a job because I thought I'd be forced to go and I'd lose time slots. I er wasn't very smart. By the time Royal came out I was 1% less dumb and immediately kicked myself for missing this link cause of how good it was
I had a similar experience, only I unlocked Tora but didn't know he'd become unavailable at a certain point. So I only really half-completed his Confidant. On my NG+ run I unlocked him early and prioritized him on Sundays. He became one of my favorites after doing this.
Yeah I think his scandal is definitely a cultural difference. My understanding is in Japan misbehaving in that way is a waaaaaay bigger deal than in the west
I said this before this confidant is LITERALLY why some persona 5 fans just don't understand what it talks about it is NOT rotten adults it's about rebellion against positions of powers people who have high ground & just abusing it "play strikers as an example" so Yoshida being a scummy guy that he admits he was tries to be a good person and a good politician so good for him
Damn... confidant discussions feel like such a fever dream at this point. This is what got me interested in the channel, it's been way too long overdue for another Man, I just love Fither gushing about his favorite things about Persona :')
Matsushita may be based off of the late great Antonio Inoki. One of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time. He was the founder of Japan's premiere wrestling new Japan pro wrestling. He was a hero too the Japanese public so when he ran for public office he won easily. fun fact about Inoki he negotiated the return of several Japanese hostages from fucking Saddam Hussein. He's an absolute fucking Chad and the chin-est chin to ever cheroo
The irony that I just finished his social link and this popped up in my feed. He's pretty awesome. He's the underdog trying to find a voice and redeem himself and not an idiot either. He knows what we are and supports us.
Absolutely amazing grandpa! Truly stole our hearts more than the phantom thieves even can! It was SUCH a great decision to have One Good Politician in a game entirely about evil authority figures. He just renews all the hope in humanity that Shido shattered! And he's also just a really damn endearing character. Im glad you pointed out how cute his design is! Making him a big round potato faced old man just instantly communicates how trustworthy he is, and makes him look like an underdog. His sad face really does resemble a pug! Ive seen people saying his beta design was better and I really dont agree. Its just a completely generic young dude and I feel it doesnt fit his plot or personality as well. (Also, the grandpa social links just tend to have a good reputation for being excellent so im glad to add him to the list with Bunkichi and co!) Anyway, I wrote way too many rules, in conclusion Toranosuke for president!!! Love this guy!!!
The persona fan au were the adults are teens and vice versa made me appreciate the characters more cause I gave not a single fuck about Tora until then lol
Genuinely every social link with some crusty old motherfucker in Persona is in the top 5 of that game, Altus is really good at writing old people in games about high schoolers
I didn't work at the beef bowl place until my ng+ run in vanilla and I was pretty disappointed with myself for missing him, his story is a great contrast to the Palace rulers and targets who have to be forced to regret their actions.
This was one of my favorite social links in the game. It’s also a bit special for me because the first “final” (as in the ones you get after finishing social links) persona that I created was a pretty broken Asura.
almost immediately this video felt more informative and scripted, a big difference from the usual stuff i expect, but it's not bad. i think the jokes are funny af, and i'm interested to see like how this new style develops
Tora's motivations are reallly great, he stays true to his believes even when he won't be able to do much by doing that, and even when everyone tells him to don't do that, he still tries for what he believes is the right thing for everyone
Persona 5 gave me a bad habit of interacting with Social Links/Confidentes that I consider useful for my playthrough, but Tora is one of the cases that I make a point of doing and completing exactly because I like the character and not what he offers.
Holy cow it’s weird to hear you scripted Awesome stuff, though! I remember you saying you weren’t a fan of making this form of content, but if you’re willing you should try it out a bit more, it’s great!
Tora is a confidant that you wont understand until your older. Alot of people who hated the S-Link always said its boring but it makese sense highschoolers dont understand the corrupt political world.
Stealing hearts for confidants isn't bad innately but at times it prevents the actual confidant character from facing their challenges/solving their problem because the antagonist is impossible to deal with. Kawakami in particular was pretty bad, primarily because the dead kid's parents are so evil that it is impossible for her to reason with them. So Joker is forced to do all the work in a story about Kawakami being a better teacher. It would have been so easy for them to just write Kawakami displaying her dedication to the point where the dead kid's parents recognize that she doesn't deserve what they are doing to her. That would have given us an example to see Kawakami's growth as a character in action and it would have made the villains more interesting as opposed to just being soulless. My biggest issue is that many times the confidants create a situation where you have to steal a heart instead of it naturally coming into play, as if it was a forced requirement when making them instead of a feature when it works. Like Futaba's friend just happening to have bad parents which if memory serves, never felt plot significant. I think the worst offender in terms of what it does was the fortune lady at the beginning with the boyfriend. She was giving good advice but then Joker just fixes an obviously incompatible relationship. It kind of just undermines her skill, as Joker one ups her with the most objectively optimal solution. I honestly was expecting Joker to 'fix' him only for the relationship to still go bad because people aren't just good or bad traits but have capability factors besides negative intentions. I thought stealing hearts was more about taking away their mal intentions/desires which allows their conscious/guilt to take over as opposed to making someone an objectively better person. If stealing hearts makes everyone good and you can change the hearts of people who don't have palaces, why don't you pre-emptively just go around changing hearts? Jeff has poor manners, just change his heart dude! Also Persona 'gameplay' is bad and the less time spent in Mementos or anything related to the boring combat the better. I didn't even like most of the dungeons because they took so long, even if though the ideas and concepts behind them were great. The most fun I had in Persona 5 was planning out when I would do what activity to fit as much as possible before the game ended. SMT is way more fun in terms of the combat since every boss forces you to re-think your strategy and fundamentally alter your team, as opposed to P5 where I mindlessly rolled everyone even on hard.
Fucking finally. Tora is one of my favorite Confidant in Persona 5. He's essentially a microcosm of the ideal politician that Shido and Kunikazu pretend to be.
If only him and Iwai were involved in the main plot of P5 in some form.
You would think Tora would at least be a politician Shido beats out directly simply because Shido has the charisma and appeals to the correct people to establish the corrupt government. That would have been a cool demonstration of the situation.

And he doesn’t have you defeat the antagonist of his Confidant like the other adults.
He's definitely I'd say one of the top 3 best social links in terms of skills now the other two being temperature and strength
I beat the game but on my first run I didn't max him out, but on my 2 run through I maxed him out. After you beat shido tho does Tora become mayor??

The sun social link really just takes a W for each game
While the Moon takes a L for the most part.

He is voiced by rigby and that makes him the best
Also Otto octavious/ doc ock from the insomniac Spider-Man games
Mordin Solus too
also YHVH in smt4a
@@TheShanicpower
Isn't he only Mordin in ME3?
I loved this social link. It's surprisingly underappreciated in the Persona community when it's pretty top tier social link imo.
It’s quite a humanising element in a game where politicians and police officers are shown largely in a bad light.
I think it’s because it is basically the nudging of a politician to better himself that it is underrated - it does not have the typical Persona flair.
By the way, he's voiced by Rigby from Regular Show and Reverend Putty from Moral Orel, really underrated VA.

genuinely one of the strongest social links in the entire series
Thank you for putting respect on Tora’s name

One of my favorite social links in persona 5, both gameplay and writing.

Oh I really like that one!
Fuck yeah, I loved both Tora and Ohya's characters in that AU
The guy who can get the phone numbers of many pretty girls by being Tora over Sojiro.
Missed opportunity of have him running against shido and losing in rank 10
I love Tora, he's probably my favorite confidant in the game
Genuinely every social link with some crusty old motherfucker in Persona is in the top 5 of that game, Altus is really good at writing old people in games about high schoolers

3:50 nah man i don't want my man Tora to start throwing people in a tv

The Morgana and politician jokes were on point. Tora's social link was great, and this is a good look at it.
Mfw an episode of the confidants comes out 4-5 years later than you anticipated it 😅
Thank you very much for making a video on this character. Kinda underrated. Very appreciated.

Your voice is worthy to become a part of my and many people's daily lives ambience. Very smooth and natural
It's finally here
Best man. I love Yoshida.
Thank you for going back to this one its a good one.
Don't remember but it would be cool to go through the social links as well. Unless you'll repeat what you said in other larger themed videos.
He is definitely one of my favorites, being the first confidant for me to finish
Sun social links stay goated
Imagine in p6 we going to get the most lowest scum in earth as moon social link but then we see why they become shit person
He'll beat P2 before finishing this series
Yoshida is my boy
Holy cow it’s weird to hear you scripted

One of the few social links I like in Persona 5. Based
I hope you talk about Ai’s link in a future video even though you don’t like her.
This dude is the most OK social link.
i love u
