My son and I metal detect at an old Army Base here in Alaska, and we’ve found quite a few ration cans which have had their lids improvised into handles for a coffee cup, or boiling container. Great Video, Mate!
That's a great bit of info right there. Yeah I can imagine the old tin cans would be perfect for a boiling container and I have found a few old ones like that as well in the bush!
you know these heated jackets and vests Luke?... you can buy sets of just the ''heating pads'' too , I've got two sets, one is 5 pads strong and the other is 10 pads strong, a few safety pins can hold the pads in place, a small powerbank can run it for all night, in a sleeping bag, or a jacket or whatever they work fine...no fire needed, unless I cook something...perfect and for ';stealth camping''...
Never heard of it mate. Sounds pretty fancy! This sleeping bag was a crappy one from anaconda, I use the nevegear quilt now and it works wonders. Also woollen blankets while sleeping round a fire does the job as well. Thanks for watching.

They have done really well in making a name for themselves in the outdoor culture. Although I'm moving away from modern stuff and towards traditional gear .. I still love a camp here and there with modern Alton stuff.
I envy you guys in Australia. The Alton Goods and Pathfinder canteen/cup/stick cooker set looks practical and of great quality. It's hard to find such good items locally in South Africa, especially the dedicated bushcraft tarp. International shipping is an option, but with the Rand/Dollar exchange rate and our poor customs/postal service, it's not worth spending the money only to have your items "lost" in the postal system.

Luke, my hat's off to you for going bush in denim pants in all kinds of weather. In my experience, I’ve found them to be the worst type of pants for bush camping when you want warmth. When the temperature drops, they are damn cold. Call me a softy, but for winter bushcraft, I use a pair of old-school, thick dark blue corduroy pants I found at a thrift store. They're not as durable as denim but provide much better insulation.
Yeah it is ... though I was in the snow a few days ago and went to set up the tarp tent config and it all went to crap haha couldn't work out what I was doing. Maybe the altitude got to me haha

Yeah cheers, well with the hammock if you are in cold weather you really have to consider an underquilt, which ends up making it a little bit more bulky. But I think a hammock with tarp, top quilt, under quilt etc would still be more light wieght then a tent, matt and sleeping bag. pros and cons with both. In an area that is not really flat, a hammock works great, but if you have no trees around, you'll be needing a tent. So all depends on the environment you are in.

This is an old video. I was using an cheapo bag from anaconda .. I'm using wool blankets a lot these days, but if I use a sleeping bag, I go for a nevegear quilt ... so lightwieght, warm and great quality.
This was a year ago. I use nevegears stuff now which is heaps better. After I made this video I found out that my sleeping bag had actually advertised as a 0.c bag, but it was actually 0.c extreme rating, not comfort rating. The big corporations are sneaky like that. I much prefer smaller honest brands now.
Not as cold as scotland haha. So where I am in Victoria Australia our winter temps get down between -2.c to 4.c. If I drive 2 hours into the mountains it can be anything between -10.c to -2.c I recognise that we Aussies just don't get cold like Europeons or North Americans.

Yet a closer look showed that 0.c was its survival / extreme rating .. it's normal comfort rating was actually 5.c. This is why I just stick with Nevegear quilts now. Yeah you can .. but I was using a dog and gun pre drip filter, so you need to have a container for boiling and then a cup to pour the water through the filter.
