When you said 12 intervals AT 28…My first thought was- I’ll do my best. I’m excited to say I was able to stay with you at 28! That broke me past the mindset ‘reaction’ - which was doubting I could do it. Thanks Shane!
I’m a 75 year old 120 lb woman with Parkinson’s. Your workouts are keeping me moving and one step ahead of my disease along with CrossFit and some boxing. Thanks for your workouts, 20 minutes is just the right amt. of time!
Thank you, Thank you Shane. This work out was fantastic. I'm in my early 50s, been rowing for over 30 years. Strained my lower back multiple times. Your videos corrected that issue. And.....most importantly, on this work out, I got into the 1:30s split per 500m. I haven't seen that in about a decade. For some that probably nothing, but for those of us that are older, it is pretty cool! So, thank you again Shane. I will keep watching, and will probably take that next step to the Dark Horse group.
I'm a semi-retired wee fat Scottish guy. I've had my machine for 5 days and never missed a day as you are making this enjoyable and the very fact I can say that with out a gun to my head is testament to your coaching skills. I just wanted to say thank you.
@@DarkHorseRowingOMG i thought o was not going to be able to finish all the interval but i am happy to announce that o finish and i was not feeling exhausted but great!!🎉 Do you have any recommendation for gloves? I did developed a water bubble in my left hand. Maybe I was doing something wrong? Thank you for your video, and I am using them to go through your 7 day loose weight challenge.
I have learned so much in 1 month! 66 yo. Never rowed properly. Technique is starting to be imbedded In my motor memory. Stroke Power improving and smoother. Thank you!
I've being following you since the pandemic started. Bought a water machine and here I am. Still rowing with you. I have Asthma, lung emphysema and also a spine problem on my lower back, and let me tell you I left the Chiropractic couple months ago because I improve a lot just rowing and doing some weights at home and no more pain on my back. Ofcourse I do some stretching exercises. And I'm feeling better and better. Thanks a lot man.
Shoutout from France Shane. I’ve been rowing for a month and your speech during this workout just got to me so hard that I felt compelled to come over and share my experience. You just got me zoned in and you definitely got the best out of me today! I even got goosebumps as I was rowing towards the end and pictured myself finishing that race hard! I couldn’t have done it without you! Keep up with these amazing videos! Cheers
Thanks for this workout. I was a little intimidated my it, and I gave myself a target split in the first 2 rounds. I not only matched but beat that split by 12 seconds! I learned not to underestimate myself and that by focusing on the mechanics the effort was manageable but the output increased more than I expected. And thanks for not calling out the number until the last 2. That mind trick helped me.
Did this workout at 4am today and I’m proud of myself for sticking with it! I know I can do better, though - challenge accepted! I’ll be coming back to this one to leave today’s version of me in the dust (or water…you know what I mean!). As always, I love these videos and how strong I feel after doing them. To those who don’t like Shane’s coaching throughout - use your mute button and just follow him! I personally like his encouragement, and especially on days when I’m tired and not really feeling it. Great videos, looking forward to the next workout 👍🏼👍🏼
I've never commented on these videos, but this one was amazing for me today. Couldn't sleep decided to row and at 3 A.M. I feel great. I feel I've been challenged, and I'm excited about my next one. Thanks!
So very Thankful for you and your workouts. I find myself pushing when you urge us to go harder. I honestly have been tearing up during cool downs lately because of the encouraging things you say. I’ve been really self conscious about my appearance and I’m doing this to lose weight, get fit and feel better about myself. You have been one of the few voices that have been giving so much positive vibes. You rock and can’t wait to see the next video!! 💕❤️
Took a 10-week break from hard rowing to build strength/muscle. This is my first 20-minute row since then, and boy did this hurt! Great stuff as always, Shane!
Ingesting… I’m back in my rower routine! And during this workout I found the leg 🦵 hip and glute connection I NEVER felt before ! Did this twice this week.. feeling it ! thanks so much! As always! I’ll incorporate it as my quickie! This was awesome ! Thanks! 👍🏼♥️
Shane, thank you. I have been so tied up with family stuff that I forgot to put my O2 on first. This row got my attention back on myself so I can do for others. I got off on interval 10 by .5 spm but killed it on 11 and 12. Of course, this after doing the first 3 and resetting with my PM5 set for the intervals and rest. 🤫. Always Data driven. Thank you again. Next time with a bit higher damper setting. Be well. And I hope you enjoyed Austin.
The last hard rowing workout I did was in May. Switched over to the bike for the summer and then dealt with plantar fasciitis the last 3 months. Just started rowing again about 3 weeks ago but real easy 5ks just to get the motion back and make sure my feet were going to be fine. When I started this workout I knew it would be hard but decided I would just chill in the 200 - 240 watt range while Shane and everyone else looked at the back of my head. But dammit Shane. You just keep talking. And as I’m rowing listening to you talk I’m thinking “there’s no way in hell he’s going to drop me as he just yaps it up.” So I ended up steadily climbing to over 340 watts on that last round. Thanks for the inspiration and the coaching as we continue to learn from you! As a former Triathlete and Cyclist I know that if you can keep talking while rowing hard, then I can suck it up and stay with you. (Well at least I think I am. Can’t see your monitor. =). -Danny
Your videos have truly helped me in understanding rowing technique, form and how to extract maximum effort without increasing stroke rates. Commenting here for the first time but have watched and followed along many of your workout videos. You and @rowalong are amazing when it comes to keeping your voice even during strenuous workouts while you prompt/encourage/inspire/cajole/beseech, beguile/steer us audiences through our workouts. Thanks again.
Great workout today. I was straight feeling your feels during the intervals. When I get to that point, I match your stroke rate, and it gets me through it. Love these workouts. Thanks, Shane and Dark Horse Rowing.
I wanted to just complete the workout. I didn’t think I was going to be able to increase every 2 rounds. This was one of my best efforts! I really surpassed my expectations
This is awesome. I always thought I was a decent rower, but learning the about the small things that I never thought to notice has made my mechanics better. I was just jumping in, damper set to 10, and rowing until I cry. Now, because of you, I've learned that it's okay to take my time. It's not as stressful. Lol.
Thanks for this great workout, a real pleasure to follow you. It is not just about rowing, it is you attitude towards tackling obstacles. Best regards from Bad Nauheim, Germany
good workout, thanks. i found lightly paddling in between the sets helped me not panic about how hard i was breathing after the interval and regulate my breathing.
The blurred edges of peripheral vision in your frame during each push is so true to reality and brings me back into the heavyweight-eight nearing 2,000 meters, just before you hear “weigh enough lads!”
Lost 30 lbs in the past month just from doing the 30 mins beginner training workout of yours from months ago and 30 mins on the treadmill at a 3.4 pace. Eating better and nothing but water and sleeping 8 hours a day. I'm feeling better than I ever thought possible!! Thank you for sharing your workouts and tips. I love! The rowing machine. One question... how do you prevent the pain in the tail bone when trying to get up from the seat after the workout?
One of my favorite of your work outs! Your images, and intergrated connections to body mechanics moved my game up another level. Thank you. I think the interval training created time for relection and motivation for next round !
i got on to this workout thinking of doing warm up and go onto lighter workout of yours, a bit under the weather and didt feel like pushing... round one started and ihave help 28 for 45sec... thought maybe i do half of it, but than you said the effort we do here shows what are we in real life, so the effort transient. This what caught me to finish what ive started and i feel less sick. thanks buddy.
9/12/2023 My new favorite! I loved the mental imagery of being on water!💦Thank you Coach Shane. 🎉 I am in the midst of the 2 week free trial and am really liking being more accountable! I wasn't sure how to make comments on this video on the DH platform? So am just posting it here. Also, during my workout, a hummingbird perched near the open window and sat and listened to Coach Shane for the longest! Everybody loves Coach Shane! 😁
I used to live by Mission Bay too! Such a beautiful area, wish I was into rowing then. Thanks for all you do, Shane. You are a motivating and charismatic coach!
good coaches put themselves in your shoes, but not all. Many I have run into tell you the book - not what your shoes are telling you. Appreciate that you put yourself into the same space as your clients, each time this is a great experience!
Great workout, I’m not sure, being new to rowing, but I felt a gain in control. I found a group that rows on a small River through a bird sanctuary, we can only row in the warmer months, but this is the best thing I have done in my life, and by the way I am 67. Thank you for such great workouts
I learned that I have at least 3 more levels of power in my strokes than a thought. I'm fairly new to indoor rowing, it's nice to see that it's the same with rowing as to everything else I tried in life. there are always more to give if you have the heart.
Brilliant workout Shane - loving them and my rowing is getting stronger and stronger. You asked what I learnt in that workout - I learnt that cramp in both butt cheeks at the same time is agony!! Worked through it and stayed with you till the end though. Keep them coming!
I start nice and easy and ramp up to mid, somewhere around halfway through I hate you then that end is always a nice strong focused force. Every stroke is hitting hard and I've really found my stride.
Haven't been working hard on rowing lately but want get back at rowing to increase my endurance. When I start it this workout I thought if I could just keep steady I'd be fine but I was able to bring it up a little bit each time and was able to go under 2 minutes which is a really good pace for me. Thanks for great workout.
Thanks for all your videos Shane. I'm a bit of a newbie to working out because I have a real fear of going to gyms since I don't know what I'm doing, but I have access to a basic rowing machine and even though it can't do all the measurements yours can the videos really help. I managed to match all your strokes and only got a little bit out of time once or twice towards the end! Really feeling it & I'm pretty proud of my effort. I'll be back to repeat this one for sure!
I absolutely loved this workout, great psychology. Actually you did say the beginner shouldn't be doing this for 8 weeks but I had a sneaky peek in my reflective window beside me and reckon my strokes look better when I'm working harder. I only did this one because I fluffed recording my earlier beginner row follow along and felt up to carrying on. Did the whole workout grinning like a Cheshire cat.😊. How do I feel now? FANTASTIC. Thank you
Nice work out. Decent ad placement, thank you. Also, appreciate the row breakdown arm/back/legs in the warm up section. Would love to have a stretch routine in the cool down section too. As always though. Great job! Great content! Hands over ❤namaste🙏. 😋
Found a new body row connection as well. Realized I kept lifting my toes off the foot pads! Tried to overcome and when I realized it I felt more connected to the machine and was able to drop a couple seconds off towards the end of the workout! Thanks!!!
My last four were really quick, last one the fastest. 1.55 on 500m split. Not bad for a 78 yr old, but there’s more there! Love your vids., inspired by them and by a Henley-winning and GB squad granddaughter!
I thought I was going to quit at 10 … but you talked me into it. My 12th was [unofficially] my fastest. I didn’t set up the workout, so I can only go by the 500m split shown on the screen. In the early rounds I was finishing out the 45 seconds around 1:55 … by round 12 I was at 1:50.
Nearly gave up on 6th end. Dug deep and kept going and didn't slack. Boy I feel good. 2nd month in 3-4 times per week beginner class until now. Keep it up man!
Great workout, I’m sorry it was 95 degrees where you were. It’s currently 30 degrees in Boston and I’m sweating after this workout!! Looking forward to my 3rd day with you tomorrow. Thanks for the channel!!
Dude. I found wattage I’ve never tried to get to before. And the harder I pushed, the better my form got. I was totally visualizing a red boat in beautiful water, not my cold Alaskan garage.
4th ever session on a rowing machine, previous 3 have been this week following one of the beginner workout videos. This was my first “proper” workout. Question during cool down was what did you learn about yourself. I learnt today that I love this!! and also when struggling, concentrating on good technique brought me back. Awesome video.
I loved pushing it. I loved imagining I was on Lady Bird Lake in Austin again, rowing early in the morning. I loved having to control my mind between sessions and how awesome it was to be in the moment the last round, too!. Your thesaurus play and conversations help me stay focused and being able to match what you do remind me that I can do it :-) Thank you!
I wasn't sure if I had it in me to be faster at the end but with your coaching and encouragement...I'll be damned if I didn't blow my first few rounds out of the water (no pun intended). This was a good one! Many thanks.
Hi, I love your videos. My rower has resistance on it but I never hear you talk about that, what should my resistance be on? Also what videos are the best for 30 min workouts to lose weight on only rower
My mum lost weight because of this channel. So thank you
I pushed through even though I wanted to give up

Shane is the reason I row! He’s the man. He motivates me to push when I don’t think I have any more to give. Dark Horse for life! 💪🏽

Loved this one! Clear the mind … focus… do what Shane tells you to do… don’t think! Magic!!
good workout, thanks. i found lightly paddling in between the sets helped me not panic about how hard i was breathing after the interval and regulate my breathing.
The connect between physical and mental health is so strong and under emphasized. You really bring the 2 together naturally.

Great workouts. Thank you! What I have learned today is that at 68 I could actually keep up with you. Thank you Shane 😊
Thank you Shane. New Years resolution - here's to a better and healthier year for all Dark Horses and everyone

This my favourite DHR erg workout so far since I discovered the channel 6 months ago !
Definitely my favorite, STILL🎉🇱🇷🎉
Thanks Shane! Couldn’t have found energy to get negative splits without your help!
I used to live by Mission Bay too! Such a beautiful area, wish I was into rowing then. Thanks for all you do, Shane. You are a motivating and charismatic coach!

That was awesome Shane! I pushed myself way more than I thought I could. How you manage to talk throughout these workouts is beyond me! Legend.
No matter how many times I've rowed to this video, it is still always my favorite workout to do and kills every single time.
Agreed💪🏻🇺🇸💪🏻
Great workout, I’m not sure, being new to rowing, but I felt a gain in control. I found a group that rows on a small River through a bird sanctuary, we can only row in the warmer months, but this is the best thing I have done in my life, and by the way I am 67. Thank you for such great workouts

Been using these workouts to fight the winter blues over the last couple years. Thanks for videos Shane!

This was a great workout. I'm gonna come back to this multiple times to help me build my ability to stay at higher stroke rates.
Brilliant workout Shane - loving them and my rowing is getting stronger and stronger. You asked what I learnt in that workout - I learnt that cramp in both butt cheeks at the same time is agony!! Worked through it and stayed with you till the end though. Keep them coming!
Omg Shane I did it 62 here first time on workout! I am sweating and usually don’t love it! It took a lot to push through but…… it’s done Woo hoo
Great workout! Was feeling a little down, almost didn't hop on, but then I did and it was more than a workout... it was therapy! Thanks Shane :)
I start nice and easy and ramp up to mid, somewhere around halfway through I hate you then that end is always a nice strong focused force. Every stroke is hitting hard and I've really found my stride.
I have much to learn after reading the comments. Thanks to D🐎H & the comment section.🏋️🇨🇦
Many thanks Shane…..my first real workout after my wedding…..feels so good!!!…..many thanks!!!
After 3 month since last one, it felt amazing!!!….thank you Shane!!….be a Dark Horse!!
Moved up to advanced and this is STILL my favorite of your workouts. Thanks, Shane!
Helps watching the perfect form! Curious, what were your paces throughout?
I mix and match your workouts so my body can never get into a routine! I try and surprise it every day! Thanks for the great workouts!
Loved that for a lunch time blast then back to work!! Thank you
Found a new body row connection as well. Realized I kept lifting my toes off the foot pads! Tried to overcome and when I realized it I felt more connected to the machine and was able to drop a couple seconds off towards the end of the workout! Thanks!!!
Sets 8-12 were tough but I dug deeper than I thought I could, smashed by PB /500m!!
My last four were really quick, last one the fastest. 1.55 on 500m split. Not bad for a 78 yr old, but there’s more there! Love your vids., inspired by them and by a Henley-winning and GB squad granddaughter!
Great workout. Felt efficient yet very difficult, i feel stronger and better and you were motivating throughout the workout.
Great 👍🏻 Thanks for the cool training! Greetings from Hamelin in Germany 🇩🇪
Well it kicked my old butt, in the good way. Was able to keep it at 28 and above as we went on. Thanks for all you do.
Thank you Shame ! Oct 2024 and love this one
Not my 1st rowing workout but my first workout with you. It was awesome. Thank you for helping me to refocus my day. I’ll be back!
I think this is my favorite video! It goes by super fast. I’m not fast, but I went over my goal!!
Found inner speed and strength that i haven’t seen in a long time. It’s been a long time. Wish I had set my monitor up with intervals.
Thank you from Australia you have made me enjoy this concept 2 machine im addicted
Wow... One of the most set that I know. Tks from Brazil.
Nearly gave up on 6th end. Dug deep and kept going and didn't slack. Boy I feel good. 2nd month in 3-4 times per week beginner class until now. Keep it up man!
Great job Alan!
greatly appreciated Shane, thank you so much, you’re words of wisdom always resonate
You are so welcome, I'm happy to hear they had an impact.
Great workout, I’m sorry it was 95 degrees where you were. It’s currently 30 degrees in Boston and I’m sweating after this workout!! Looking forward to my 3rd day with you tomorrow. Thanks for the channel!!
Love your workouts. I would like to see more current videos, they all seem to be 1 yr and older. Thank you.
Dude. I found wattage I’ve never tried to get to before. And the harder I pushed, the better my form got. I was totally visualizing a red boat in beautiful water, not my cold Alaskan garage.
Kicked my butt, but that workout definitely made me feel more awake and centered! Thanks, Shane!
Great work Melissa!
4th ever session on a rowing machine, previous 3 have been this week following one of the beginner workout videos. This was my first “proper” workout. Question during cool down was what did you learn about yourself. I learnt today that I love this!! and also when struggling, concentrating on good technique brought me back. Awesome video.
Had more in me than I thought, thanks DH !!
I feel I can do it and keep going but keep my feet to not go up in the back. Yes endurance !
Thank you Shane for your videos. This is a good motivation for me. Best regards from Germany / Bavaria
Thank you sooo much for creating such amazing videos!!!
What is your tension control set at?
I am really enjoying your workouts, thank you
I loved pushing it.
Love that workout!!
Excellent, thank you! Great workout and motivator.
Great workout! Thanks, Shane. I especially like what you say -
cheers Shane. needed that wee chat - body and mind 🙌
My effort increased after every break and I had to concentrate on rhythm 😅
I wasn't sure if I had it in me to be faster at the end but with your coaching and encouragement...I'll be damned if I didn't blow my first few rounds out of the water (no pun intended). This was a good one! Many thanks.
I sure hope I did this right, there’s no programming for this one, right? Or just Row? Thanks so much from Kentucky.
Hi, I love your videos. My rower has resistance on it but I never hear you talk about that, what should my resistance be on? Also what videos are the best for 30 min workouts to lose weight on only rower
