335lbs life going to shit, decided to buy a rowing machine to help myself out, 30 days of your workouts and eating healthy, down to 295, first time in 6 years my weights started with a 2. Thank you for the motivation that I need to push myself to get better.
5/26/23: Mostly just making this edit for my own motivation but officially down 90lbs to 245lbs as of this morning, so if you think it can't be done, it can be my friends.

@@bmthfan1231 keep pushing yourself even if you're tired, or sick or sore do a workout even if it's for 10 minutes get yourself moving. In the beginning I struggled to get through a beginner workout now I'm able to get through an advanced workout and not feel dead. Download an app to track calories. I've been using Mynetdiary and it's super easy and helpful. Don't get discouraged, I weighed in at 268 this morning and I know I still have a long way to go to be where I want to be, but I'm a hell of a lot better off than where I was. Just keep yourself motivated and build a habit of working out.

I'm 73 and my wife is 78. We try to walk 2-3 miles each morning and just bought a rowing machine to improve our overall health. Today was our first day using it but didn't get 20 minutes in. My wife did 10 minutes and i did 12 minutes. We hope to work our way up to the 20 minutes within the month and then when comfortable look forward to moving to your intermediate workout. Thanks for showing us how to properly use our rowing. machine.

10-12 mi it’s as a start is amazing. Most can’t do 5 minutes to start. The key is 24/25 strokes, and keep your breathing under control. Then 10 minutes will feel like a warmup.

I’m 67 and just got a used concept 2 model c. Loving it! Degenerative arthritis in ankles make it hard to strap in, I was thrilled to find out it works great without strapping in. At 5-9 and 157 lbs I actually need to add back weight, mostly in lost muscle mass from meds I’ve been on but weaning off of. The videos are great. I did put the machine up about 10”- 14” (front to rear) to accommodate my very bad knees.

Removed the laundry from my rower, the excuses from my head and did this workout today after months of it sitting there, a constant reminder of what I'm not doing. I was going to do a 10 minute beginner workout, but I'm a bit beyond that, or so I thought. This one was tough for me. The sweat and mascara (I did this at the end of my workday) running down my face, my jiggly arms and legs and my heartbeat that's slowly steadying, is all evidence to that. If this will be the catalyst to me getting back on track, I can't say for sure. What I can say, is I feel great and proud that I finished it. So much of what you talk about during the row, Shane, really struck home with me. Thanks!

Definitely not a waste of time, you're doing something for your health, doesn't matter if you're skinny or fat, 20 or 70, what matters is you're improving your physique and your heart gets better with cardio, something like this could be something that could save you from a heart attack or any other heart disease as well as some back pain and etc.

I don't know if I would be loving the rowing machine so much if it wasn't for following all of your tips and techniques. 20 years ago I had a back surgery, 14 years I broke my ankle, 12 years ago I broke my other ankle, somewhere in there I had a DVT and have post thrombotic syndrome in one leg. All of these injuries have made it so hard to walk or do most other exercises. I can't wait to do more and learn more. Thank you so much!

So I bought a C2 with PM 3 about 5 years ago. Rowed a couple of thousand meters and it has been gathering dust since then! No excuse but "life got in the way"
Long story short, at age 68 I decided to get back to it.
Just completed 12 minutes of this workout. I felt I should ease into this. No point in stroking out, no pun intended. Not quite sure where to set the resistance. I currently have it on 4 which seems to work for me at this point. Now I need to read up on the PM 3 so i know how to set it up for various workouts. For this just completed half workout I set it to "just row".
Your thoughts on using a heart rate monitor?
Anyway, I am pumped, stoked and psyched. I am muscular as all get out but have essentially no cardiopulmonary fitness. That is about to change. Glad I found your channel.

You are a very compelling teacher. I'm looking forward to my next rowing workout right after I finished rowing! That has never happened.
One comment for you to consider: stretching doesn't really give the feedback the system needs to turn the tonus, resting tension, down.
There's a better way than stretching to make sure the system doesn't normalize the tension of the work out.
Let me know if you are interested. You're a very good teacher. Thank you.

I got a free trial of ifit when I bought my rower and decided to find some other videos on here. after a few weeks of ifit I still have never had a video workout explain about what the stroke rate means or that you pull and push with your feet means more than just how many reps you do. I thought the faster I was rowing the better I was doing. Thank you for the great beginner video and explaining what it all meant. I burned more calories with your video than when I rowed twice as long. 🤯 thank you thank you!!

I just started working out again after dropping off 10 years ago. Why? I don't know! I was 58, buff, fit and feeling great. I'm now 68 and just started with a personal trainer now. Does it feel awesome!! I couldn't believe how much I remember about my positioning, etc. I feel great just knowing I'm going all out to get where I was.
I ran into your video after searching for a rowing partner online. Wow! I hit the jackpot! I love your guidance. Thank you! I'll continue going along with you as I advance. That was one heck of a great workout. I kept up and feel SPENT, but great.
    Thank you!

Shane, former soccer player long since retired. Just recovering from back injury, and psoas muscle issue. I decided to get the concept 2 rowing machine to get back in shape at the age of 65. I was researching working outs to start to get the right techniques and I came across your video. It was a great way to start and made for a fun workout. Very informative. I need more practice on the technique, which I will focus on, until I get it down. Great job Shane!!

Purchased & received my C2 for my 50th birthday this past week and absolutely effin LOVE it❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️
I’ve been walking 2-3miles/day and knew I needed an additional full body workout.
My girls were on the Philly city high/middle school rowing team when they were young and loved it too.
I eventually took a 6 week rowing class on “Boat House Row” before COVID and fell in love. I can’t thank you enough for doing what you do💋💋💋💋

I love this! I am trying to build plenty of Cardio into my gym sessions and thanks to your detailed teaching, I'm falling in love with rowing. I really appreciate your sessions. I am recovering from serial bilateral knee replacements, the right on May 10, 2021and the left on August 9, 2021. I was suffering from severe medial knee osteoarthritis that had plagued me for 7 years. I knew going to the gym would make my recovery after surgery, which was imminent, much easier and I went to the gym two years beforehand and hired a Personal trainer. It worked! I sailed through surgery and recovery very well. My surgeon is absolutely delighted and cleared me this week to use any piece of equipment in the gym that I wanted to. Three months post operative from the left knee replacement I'm walking 2 miles at 3 mph on varied terrain with no pain and no swelling. Hopefully, I'm "dark horse" material! I am turning 71 on 12/20/21 and will have the best holiday season I've had in years with my "new legs". Thank you so much for your dedicated, thoughtful teaching style. Those of us learning from you very much appreciate it.

man this is awesome. always considered myself fit as I weight lifted and ran for years. but rowing has a special effect on me where I’m really listening to my body and utilizing every muscle all the time. been doing this exact video for a couple of weeks and (on my concept 2) my per 500m dropped from 3:30 to 2:15. great videos!!

I just purchased my first water rower, one of those online rowers that comes with a trial membership for their classes. I love the rower but I was worried about falling off the wagon once the membership trial is over so I jumped on UA-cam to see if I really do need the membership to stay motivated. I am so glad that I did! I just finished your beginner workout and I had an awesome experience! This was so easy to follow, positive vibe, and the drills kept me on my toes and engaged!! I feel like I had an all around balanced workout and can't wait to try your other videos with you!!...I hope you have more beginner videos to practice 😊 Thank you from a new Subscriber!!

I am not a new rower...but also a new rower.
I'd always hop on the machine at the gym and bust out 15 minutes thinking I knew what I was doing.
    NOPE.
I came across a used rower and hopped on the opportunity! Now that I am actually learning how to row, it is way harder than I anticipated!
I've completed this workout twice and I can already feel my body working in different ways than before!
Thank you for making these videos!

I’m a 79 year old female with no excess fat. I have been using this beginner program for a few weeks and am inspired to keep going on to the next level. Right now my split is 300/500 meters with the resistance set at the highest level. I’m able to follow through the program although it’s a real workout for me. Am I correct in setting the resistance level that high? Would a lesser resistance setting change my split ratio at a 20-22 stroke rate? Love your enthusiastic coaching and explanation of the drills

I am new to rowing. I have used several of DH rowing beginner videos and am feeling more confident about my form. I have used this particular workout probably 7-10 times. I can watch the CC and listen to my playlists, mirroring the movements shown. I do still have a death grip on the handle at times. I am a 55 year old woman, 5'4- 135lbs. I finally figured out what I was doing wrong just by watching the instructor, again and again. Thank you for teaching the form and hammering home some of the beginner pitfalls. I look forward to moving on to other workouts within the DH platform. To say I love my rower is an understatement.

I watched your beginners video x 2. Then I watched several of your other videos on technique. I did subscribe to your channel. After watching a video I would have a rowing session at the gym to 'practice' what you had taught. It wasn't clicking for me. Ok. I will be the first to admit that I'm a little slow at picking up how to row properly. But, Just like you promised, the light bulb finally went on today. Wow! It was awesome. I felt smooth and coordinated. Again, I was only practicing trying to learn the technique. I was using the rower as my 3-minute warm up before beginning my calisthenics and weights and then again in between my sets. I wasn't trying to do a full hard core work out.
Now the real rowing work outs can begin. Thank you for your instructions.

And following you helped me to slow down the stroke rate. Great refresher and motivator. So glad I found you. Greetings from 🇫🇷 . I'll be back 👍👍👍
