Great work on the DIY setup! I miss my Suburban... 300,000 miles with very little issues and it took me to some extremely remote locations. I just replaced her with a 2019 Tacoma and saving money for a new buildout.
Nice video. I would go with the BFG KO2s if I were you. I have the duratracs now that came on my truck but I used to have the KO2s on my Tacoma and miss them! They’re so much quieter and bad ass off road. Once I beat these up for awhile I’ll upgrade. Sweet truck btw! Goals!!
Looks like you Dometic is the 40? Does it ever suck having to open it like that lengthwise? Would you rather have the 50 where it opens from the side? I am debating this.
Hey brother great videos enjoy watching them! What kind of tent rack does your friend in the raptor have?? Would like to know the brand, looks bad ass on the raptor. Keep making videos man
Great video! I used to have a Silverado Z71 and loved it. I was kinda talked into a JKU Rubicon for their capability, I am enjoying it but am starting to rethink the Silverado because I really miss the room and I’m really a Chevy guy. I love what you are doing with yours, it’s inspiring . Thanks for sharing and I’m looking forward to more.
If you were really a Chevy guy you wouldn't have gotten a Jeep. What is it that Jeep guys think they can do in a Jeep (especially a big ass Rubicon) that they can't do in a pickup?
I like your setup specially the roof rack. Where did you get the front runner roof rack? I can't seem to find it online. Can you tell me the exact brand/model? Thanks.
Bro. Love your set up. After buying my 16 Silverado 1500 Ltz and wanting to get into over landing I was a little nervous because I don't see many Silverados around built like this. You've inspired me. What is the truck bed rack system you have ?
i will refrain from saying what i feel about chevy trucks...lol. but it is nice to see large over landers. get some good parts. you get what you pay for
Good to hear someone's got to save up for suspension. SO many of these videos are like "So I'm building a prerunner with 4" King long travel suspension...." or "Here's my new Earthroamer tour..." Lol.
I am doing a build of an overland/off road vehicle from a 1999 GMC Yukon and had some of the same problems as you are having, including the size changes in the wheels and tires. I went with 35x12.5/R17s which you might have a look at to see how I dealt with the wheel well and suspension problems. ua-cam.com/video/wC6Dv6tBao0/v-deo.html
I’m on my way to purchase a trail boss, for the purpose of over landing. I’m so pumped. I’m glad to see a full size Silverado out there doing it. Keep the videos coming!
Greetings from the East Coast (Maine to be specific)! Just wanted to drop a comment and let you know that you are the motivation for me to build my 2014 Chevy for Overland. The Mrs. and I have been big into our Jeeps and rock crawling for several years, but my truck has so much more room and is much more comfortable. So thank you, for doing what you do! Keep up the amazing work! I foresee your channel hitting 500k before the year is up. Can’t wait for the next video!
+Cedrik Lafleur it’s actually a prototype one from them. The agoura hills location is working with corporate to eventually start selling it. I’d just let them know your interested and hope it goes through.
I have same truck & lift. But I got rc upper control arms with my lift & no problem with over extending. Luckily we didn't breathe power steering plug.
Hello Lost Sasquatch I hope you are well. Can you help me whit a a doubt, I have similar truck Z71 and I cant find information of capacity. I want to install this kind of roof camping but on top of the cabine, Can I do that whit supports of thule??? Nice video thank you a lot if you can give me any information.... See you in your videos
I think if it breaks on its own it's covered under warranty. But if you take it off unnecessarily and break it you bought it. What if you broke the window while removing it to modify it? Should that be covered under warranty? Of course your judgment is already called into question with that Rough Country lift kit. Nonetheless it is a very good video.
Awesome seeing the progress on the heavy Chevy! Keep it up man! What size bed is that on the truck? And what watch were you rockin? I myself have a 17’ short bed 4x4 can’t wait to start getting out there
FYI: I was replacing the ignition coil rail in my 2000 Jeep Wrangler and, of course, I broke the plug that was against the FIRE WALL!!!!! Aghhhhhhh! Anyway, a friend of mine told me, "Don't cut the wires just get a new plug and remove the wires from the new plug. Then use the new plug with the EXISTING wires. It took me 3 minutes once I had received the plug that I ordered online. The dealership could have done that for you,........thank you for taking the time to make the video.
You must've did something wrong with your lift if your having issues with it lol i got the 7in rough country lift and didn't have any of those complaints
Love this, hard to find silverado overlanders. Badass build bro and nice editing, the editing u did when u were opening the boxes and packages was super sick
I have the same set up, 305/70r17 ridge grapplers, 3.5 rough country. Mild trimming (norcal mod) and 1/4" spacers up front because they were rubbing on the sway bar. Now only very minor rubbing at full lock.
If you want to save a few dollars and have absolutely no firmest issues AND run the stock wheels, you should look at the BF Goodrich TA K02’s in a 275/70/18. Out the door from Costco about 2 years ago for $860.00. It is 33.25 inches tall overall. Not quite as wide as what everyone else runs but, a few hundred dollars cheaper, snow and ice rated, quiet, durable, E load rating. I get between 12 and 15 mpg with little highway driving, 18-21 if mostly highway, with the Rough Country 2.5” front leveling kit. Have over 40,000 miles on this set and they are going to last at least another 10-15,000 and I drive on some really messed up roads here in SoCal/Mexico. If you go with the MudTerrains, especially if you daily drive your truck, you will lose further gas mileage, may not get the snow rating, won’t last as long, louder, no warranty and negligible off road capabilities. Save your money and buy a full size spare and a compressor and learn how to manage your tire pressures to maximize your tires performance.
+osomxl funny you say that. I just made a purchase. I changed rims to 17”. And using a buddies KO2 35” for now. I have a full size spare and my compressor is always in the truck. Should be a nice combo.
Great video, thanks for posting. I plan on retiring and full time overlanding with my 2015 GM Sierra 1/2 ton pulling a travel trailer. The travel trailer will be set up as my base camp and then I'll be taking day and/or occasional overnight trips with the truck exploring farther into the back country. I am curious what high quality 4 +/- inch lift kit you would recommend that would allow for good articulation both front and back. I would also love to find a good quality aluminium winch bumper but am not having any luck. I want to stick with aluminium as my truck is going to be at its max GVWR when loaded and pulling the trailer. Thanks in advance and hopefully we'll see you on the trail someday.
Hey Thanks, If i had done the same rough country lift but also changed out the upper control arms I dont think I would have had as many issues. but if you can I would swap out the coil over and get something that can actually take a hard hit offroad. im looking at icon.
I have a 07 Silverado with same lift kit but I bought the one with the upper control arms I have had no problems with it no rubbing or Knox if you didn’t cut the bump stops out that is what is Knocking knocking. I was able to put 33x10.5 in tiers with no rubbing drives like it did when I drove it home from dealer you go wider you might need different wheel with more back spacing.
Never figured out exactly what the issue was. But now I have the icon stage 5 and 35”x12.5”. Only rubs at full crank hitting a bump offroad. Zero rubbing on the street. But I did do a decent NorCal chop.
Tires falken wildpeak tires are amazing tires. You will rub with 34in if you run the set up you are running. I suggest looking at mazzula offroad he has some really bad ass shit and not to badly priced. I run his upper arms on my 17 Silverado. And I love them.
+Mauricio Aguirre I just ended up doing a small NorCal wheel well cut and borrowed my buddies KO2 35”. (34.4” technically) zero rubbing at full lock on level ground. They will change off road but super fun to be off the 31s. And ya I’ve heard good things with Mazzula
What do you do for a living that allows you to do this!? I have a 2020 trail boss I’m trying to convert to overland and I just can’t keep up with the money! Awesome build man #goals
2 jobs and 11 hours workdays! But it is always one step at a time. And actually majority of the stuff I now have I won in social media competitions from Westin. But it always one thing at a time.
Well done on the bed slide organizer! Can't wait to see how you put that together. Been tempted to pick up the Decked system. I just installed the Diamondback HD bed cover on my Silverado Midnight edition. Best DT
I’m not sure where this size is now on their site but if you email them and ask for the size that I have, they know my truck. I also have the specific dimensions on my website about page.
Andrew C they absolutely don’t wear fast, the three W’s stand for winter, water, and wear meaning they excel at all 3. They’re literally factory covered for 55k miles from Falken for an all terrain tire, if yours wore fast you didn’t rotate your tires or your alignment is off.
@@Nick-qj4su they arent a high quality tire, they good for the price but when you put them up against a toyo, BFG, Duratrac etc they fall on their face buy once cry once BFG all the way
I've had plugs break on all kinds of things. Sometimes the plastic tabs have a defect in them when made (air bubble) or they get old. All I do is use a small amount of permetex red silicone around the base of the plug this keeps the water out and keeps it held in place but will still be able to un-plug it when needed.
Hey man! I have a 2018 I’m getting a lift and A good lift is a BDS kit 6 inch around 1800 for the kit and 700 for the Instillation, all under warranty for a life time. I got a 8 inch lift for a total of 3,000. And tires and rims around 400 a rim and 350 for tires that are off road, total around 6,000.
I am going to backpack off the guy who recommended the ko2's. I'd recommend the KM2's -they are a hybrid between mud and all terrains though tend to lean more towards the AT side of a tire.
Nice truck bro! I have the same one. Looking to do a similar setup. I am wondering what the best lift kit for my truck would be? I'm eyeballing the BDS 4" with Fox Shock 2.5 Resi's. Let me know if you think this will get me where I need to go. Great video bro! :)
Thanks man! Ive heard the BDS is good, I really like my icons that are set at 3" lift right now though. Just make sure you know the binding limits of your front axles.
I tried looking for the front runner roof rack on their site but didn’t see one specifically for the Silverado. Is there a universal one? What is the install process like for it?
I want get a tent set up but I’m not sure what to do for rack and tent combo. Not sure if you do a separate company for the rack and what brands work best
So what do you think? I too have a full size truck like you. Now that you’ve been doing it a while do you wish or plan on getting something smaller? I’m trying to decide if I want to start the process of converting my truck or buying a Jeep Gladiator? Be HONEST. LOL
Probably couldn't go wrong with either man. I have personally used the Toyos and they are great. They are very durable and resistant to punctures. Im sure the KM3 is awesome too.
Hey man, I know this video is a year old, but I'm looking at buying a silverado, coming from a Tundra that I personally installed a roof rack on, I'm interested in your rack! I can't find any info online!
Yeah, it was a prototype rack. I don’t think they started making it. But FYI I’m sell my truck if your interests. I have a little more on it since this video. But check it out on Instagram.
How is the roof rack mounted above the cab? I have a 2018 Silverado and am trying to avoid drilling, and the ones the clamp onto the side in the doorwell.
3.5" lift is fine if it has differential drop. If I does buy the upgraded upper control arm and it will clear the strut better and also give a better range of motion. Then save up for either coilovers or a full lifted strut which RC also offers. I have a 10 with 3.5 and will be getting Kings. You Should be able clear 35's fine with OE wheels my buddy has a 14 with 3.5 inch level on 35x12.50 just remember bigger tire might hit when articulating. Just my 2 cent
Pretty sure most ifs lifts are all brackets just to keep that cv angle. Can’t say one company’s brackets are better than another. But getting into control arms and shocks well that’s the Cush ride. Nice truck I have similar a 2014 gets worked pretty hard I love it. Happy trails dude!!!
Thanks for the Video i am from germany and might need your help with finding the right truck for me here in germany we havent such a great possibility wich all the usw trucks.
You'll easily fit 33s under that lift. You'll want to measure your upper most travel clearance, turn in clearance and turn out clearance. Just grab a string and measure from the innermost parts of the tire tread and outermost parts if the tire tread, to the closest body/frame parts. Then put that string on a tape measure and write down your findings. Repeat for all four corners, vehicles are NOT perfectly symmetrical. Then go to Rims N Tires Wheel Size Comparer, enter in the size of tire, wheel size, wheel offset of your current set up (write down all those totals) then enter the NEW tires you're looking at, and see if they will clear. 👍
You need the dometic in the bed. Look at a fridge slide, those are pretty cool.
Love this! I have a 2015 Sierra as my overland build, thanks for the awesome overview and tips.
Good to see a full size truck build! 🤙

Hey brother great videos enjoy watching them! What kind of tent rack does your friend in the raptor have?? Would like to know the brand, looks bad ass on the raptor. Keep making videos man
Hey actually custom built that one. But he said you should check out Wilco Offroad. They have some decent ones.

Can I get that bumper for my Sierra?😮
i installed a 3'' leveling kit on my 2011 Z71 Silverado no issues so far. your rig looks good.how can I join your group ...?
Hey thanks! if your coming out to Overland Expo there are tons of people heading that way in May.

My dad has an older 70's gmc truck & put a rough country kit on & all I can say is it lives up to the name rough 😆
You don’t happen to have the part number for the frontrunner slimline roof rack?
+Cedrik Lafleur it’s actually a prototype one from them. The agoura hills location is working with corporate to eventually start selling it. I’d just let them know your interested and hope it goes through.
BFGoodrich All-Terrain KO2s best all around tire
I have that telescoping ladder. Awesome ladder 👌
Great work man 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I have same truck & lift. But I got rc upper control arms with my lift & no problem with over extending. Luckily we didn't breathe power steering plug.
I’m running Nitto Ridge Grapplers I highly recommend them

Did you have to add bed stiffeners to your truck? There are people who are telling me to add bed stiffeners if I off-road with a rooftop tent.
Love this, hard to find silverado overlanders. Badass build bro and nice editing, the editing u did when u were opening the boxes and packages was super sick
Thanks man! ya its a small group of silverados out there. and thanks! ya those take so long but come out cool.
What bedrack is that and how tall is it undecided on what height have a smittybilt xl looks around same size tent
I am running a 305 70 17 they had a bit of rubing. Nothing crazy they are close to a 34 11.5. Awesome truck by the way man!
good to know. ill probably end up trimming a little anyway.
I have the same set up, 305/70r17 ridge grapplers, 3.5 rough country. Mild trimming (norcal mod) and 1/4" spacers up front because they were rubbing on the sway bar. Now only very minor rubbing at full lock.
Bigger tires and it is the perfect Silverado. Looking forward for the 2019 model?
+Moises Sequera just slapped on some 35”s. So much nicer.
How much did you spend about, minus the truck. So the added upgrades?
Good job
Nice to see something other than a jeep

So what do you think? I too have a full size truck like you. Now that you’ve been doing it a while do you wish or plan on getting something smaller? I’m trying to decide if I want to start the process of converting my truck or buying a Jeep Gladiator? Be HONEST. LOL
Nope. Still love my truck.
Lost Sasquatch Sweet! Well let me get to building this bad boy and we will meet up and do a trip together.
295/70r17 toyo open country m/t. That's what I got on mine and I love them!!.
im torn between the Toyo MT and the KM3. Both E rated tires and both have a 34.1" tire...
Probably couldn't go wrong with either man. I have personally used the Toyos and they are great. They are very durable and resistant to punctures. Im sure the KM3 is awesome too.
I have a 2018 GMC Sierra, but I was thinking about going to a Cummins to build. Your videos have me thinking maybe not. Nice build man.
Both are fun trucks. Cummins would be nice to still have decent torque if you went large tires. But the Chevy still did great.
@@LostSasquatch I ended up getting a Raptor Saturday haha
You should seriously consider an air lift suspension, I have it and its amazing
+Omar Medel I have considered that. Heard good things.
Did you just do the strut spacer or replace the whole strut with the 3.5 rough country kit
At the time of this video I had the spacer kit that utilized stock strut. But also changed the knuckles.
Hey great job with the videos, glad to see you are wheeling a Silverado. Subscribed!
+Mi Pa def a fun truck to wheel.
How did you get the front license plate on the truck? Did you do a custom mount?
Yep. Just bent up some sheet metal and drilling holes to match existing holes.
I love this truck, I had ask you about it on instagram. Thanks for reply. I would like to know where those badges where from?
which badges are you referring to?
Lost Sasquatch the z71 badges on the doors and tailgate.
@@LostSasquatch YT never showed me your reply so I'm super late, but I just sent you a DM!
What brand is your overland ?
Dude are you ok need new videos
haha trying, just crazy busy
Cant wait to see new videos awesome truck
How is the roof rack mounted above the cab? I have a 2018 Silverado and am trying to avoid drilling, and the ones the clamp onto the side in the doorwell.
+G P it is drilled in. The clamp ones can’t hold that much weight. This is a prototype from Frontrunner outfitters.
@@LostSasquatch oh okay, thank you.
Nice setup! Are you based out of Norcal? Recognized one of the spots at Prewitt Ridge!
Used to live in SAnta Cruz then Truckee for a bit. Now im in Socal. Prewitt is amazing.
Lost Sasquatch ahh gotcha - I just moved to Sac and picked up a Landcruiser, slowly exploring this area haha. Keep the awesome videos coming!
What kind of roof rack do you have?
Need a link for solar stuff! Bad ass
do the suspension right the first time
Pretty sure most ifs lifts are all brackets just to keep that cv angle. Can’t say one company’s brackets are better than another. But getting into control arms and shocks well that’s the Cush ride. Nice truck I have similar a 2014 gets worked pretty hard I love it. Happy trails dude!!!
Love the build, I wanted to explore options for an overland build that wasn’t a Jeep and I’ve always had silverados! Got yourself a new sub
Awesome. Great trucks.
Lost Sasquatch awesome rig you’ve got this far
Thanks for the Video i am from germany and might need your help with finding the right truck for me here in germany we havent such a great possibility wich all the usw trucks.
Its looking great! -- Rigs & Coffee (RigsCoffee.org)
I have zone offroad upper control arms for my silverado.
Nice. Makes a nice difference
Thanks is for picking up all that trash!
my pleasure! I had lots of help
RBP repulsor mt Rx. I love mine, quiet mud terrains and they’re cheap
