If you don't wanna believe that's your fault. It's nothing but the truth. My mom came out the hospital, and she got pulled over for no reason. Nothing was gone, she was driving the right speed limit. Even the back up officer asked why she got pulled over, when nothing was wrong.
To me they're doing a great job with blending in the gritty realism and the fantastical. I love it so much when shows and movies do that. They keep it grounded enough to maintain the drama and seriousness, but they allow themselves to use that same realism to go fantastical (like how they mentioned the Tuskeegee Experiments to explain the vaccines). As a history and comic book geek, I just adore that.
This is just so much wrong and I'm feeling very terible because of this. I hate racism and racists. And I'm glad that this show will point on this problem
Damian Starks I’m fine with that. I mean, Arrow hasn’t been great recently but everything else has been pretty damn good and 3>1. But that’s just my opinion.
It also shows the black community destroying itself. The police are the least of their worries. Also, blacklighting and his family constantly show racism towards white people, but it's supposed to be ok because they're black and that automatically makes them victims.
The whole situation could been avoided or made easier, if the cops would have just told him what happened in the first place, then introduced the lady that was robbed. She would have said it wasn't Jefferson then let him drive on. They didn't have to do that in front his kids.
strikeslifer Of course the thing wasnt about a liquor store lmao, its obviously about the plot about the villain or something, making her just a secretary.
They still shouldn't have pulled him over though. A forty-something-year-old male in a suit with two younger females in his mini-wagon Volvo doing a liquor store job? No way. That's a low-level, low-take robbery job, not a professional; someone in their late-teens or a twenty-something-year-old with a hoodie jacket, baggy jeans (you know, something that wouldn't draw too much attention on a rainy night, but would also be an easy disguise to hide a gun in?), etc. would be the most obvious suspect. It's just bad police work through and through. And even if they were correct, that ID would've been thrown out because presenting a suspect to a witness while the suspect is in handcuffs would've been ruled far too discriminatory by a judge, meaning their case is over. That's why I think this scene is brilliant. Racism affects police work in every way, and can contribute to crime rates even for years to come, as we see in the show with Freeland. Oh, and it goes again why I love Jefferson's character; he takes shit from no one!
How are we going to get rid of racism??? "I'm going to stop calling you a white man. And I'm going to ask you to stop calling me a black man." ~Actor Morgan Freeman~
No... We're not. I'm not. I'm black and this isn't a thing where I live. Sounds like you need to get out of your bubble of a city/state and travel around more.
Exemp Haven That may just be your personal experience. I admit I’m black and I’ve never been pulled over but most everyone else in my family has. So has my boyfriend. Just because it’s not happening to you doesn’t mean it’s not happening.
this is better than the time that Alex came out for a whole episode, or like when everyone in Star City was debating gun control 😪 we need more real life issues addressed in TV, and these shows are GETTING THERE
This is one of the many reasons why this show will be great and I can’t wait for it becuz even when your all well dressed cops can still be dumb and still do stuff like this
Kingsavardkied Harvin you may say it's great but just wait a couple years and ppl will start talking how they don't like a certain character Ex. Felicity, iris , LOT
"This is the night, with thunder and lightning as a witness" For those who dont know his daughters are named Thunder and Lightning. (Their superhero names) LOl See how they snuck it in there?
I thought this was going to be boring but they showing real life issues there. This is going to be a different show, and I'm liking it. Can't wait until he crossed over with the flash and Joe west :-)
As long as Berlanti's lackeys don't get a bigger hand on this i think it will be awesome. In saying that, i do hope they one day link it to the rest of the verse'.
Fuck. I like it. Yea, there are good cops out there and there are these assholes as well. It's a shame a lot of people don't realize that this kind of stuff happens.
“This is the 3rd time this month!” That’s when I knew this show was going to off-the-rails pandering from Netflix. Cops don’t just drive around with witnesses in their cruisers looking to ID suspects. That’s not how the criminal justice system works. I think that this scene might actually be funny if I did know that so many people will take it seriously. They should have just made it a one-off incident where he has a realization about the society that he lives in. The way they designed it was almost parodic in tone because we’re supposed to believe that in 2018, a family man wearing a suit is pulled out of his car to be ID’d by a dower Asian liquor store owner as he drives his home and that this-or something similar-happens to him multiple times a month.
And this is why DC Comics are much better seen as TV shows than in movies literally a proof to that is Arrowverse with Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow and now Black Lightning I'm so excited to see it especially that China is in there yay. When is it going to premiere in Latin America please it looks amazing.
Well, see, It's kind of tough. If you look at every black thinker studied in intellectual discourse (think, someone like Langston Hughes or even someone more obscure like Nicloas Guillen) you have to realize that the major themes any of them ever explored was race. Race, slavery, blackness, hybridity, the interplay between African folklore and a culturally antithetical host-state. It's very difficult for black fiction to break away from race because, historically, the members of the African diaspora have been hyper-focused on race and racial issues, and remain so to this day. I remain hopeful, though. I think one day black thinkers and intellectual leaders will be able to focus on something besides race.
Stuff like this happens all the time. There are too many cops who are overly-aggressive and needlessly causing problems. All the officer had to do is use common-sense ("is a liquor store robbery suspect - probably lower-income - going to be driving a Volvo mini-wagon while wearing a suit, kids in the car no less?") but no. Even if he was right, his identification would've been thrown out of court because of how discriminatory the arrest was (having someone in handcuffs while presenting them to a witness is considered bias and can get the ID thrown out of court). Many of these same cops are the ones who have become jaded and overly-cynical and letting their bias' run wild, or they're younger rookies who are way overzealous and trigger-happy, looking to bust heads instead of making quality arrests, we see both here. And before anyone says anything - I'm white and *HATE* it when people pull the "race card." To me, lots of times, minorities use it as a way to excuse themselves from being held responsible for their own actions (which is as awful as it is annoying because it insults any actual victims of racism, and I know quite a few - I have a friend who's black and has been discriminated against when he walks into stores being viewed as a shoplifter not a customer the second he'd walk in anywhere). I'm also a generally firm supporter of law enforcement, and cannot stand how they don't get the recognition they deserve and how much hate is spewed at them by people who don't know a thing about police work other than watching "CSI" re-runs. I also hope to pursue a career in law enforcement one-day too. But I'm also someone who's grandparents, the children of Italian immigrants, were brutalized by racist, majority-Irish NYPD officers in their youths. I'm also someone with lots of friends who are non-white and who feel legit fear when they're around police. I'm someone who obsesses over criminology, and has read books like "I Can't Breath" by Matt Tiabbi about the murder (and I do consider it murder) of Eric Garner, and FBI and Justice Department reports on police departments in Baltimore, Ferguson, etc. That makes this entire issue of tackling police corruption and racial profiling so bizarre to me - at least the controversy around it. Let's just be honest: in far too many police departments, far too many officers have been getting away with far too much. They've been violating people's Constitutional rights, and haven't been punished. This stupidity and bigotry dehumanizes entire communities, and can leave them hopeless (how else would you feel if you can't differentiate between the cops and criminals?), and makes me sick. Not only that, but as i mentioned, it's because of that discriminatory attitude (the bias ID) that good police work is destroyed and the cities remain safe-havens for violent offenders, including Baltimore, Memphis, Chicago, and Minneapolis. Cops need better training - a focus on de-escalation and occasional anger-management courses. New Orleans PD has a program where they use codewords to let their partners know when to back off (that way the cop isn't embarrassed in front of the criminals - cops must be respected), and let them take over before they do anything wrong. Body cameras, and an independent Internal Affairs Bureau are also common-sense (as long as the IAB in question does have some law enforcement figures on it - again, lots of civilians mistake police work for police brutality, but ask any cop, they're often one in the same). They also need to do regular reviews on officers like these - the out-of-shape racist veterans and the jumpy quick-on-the-draw rookies, before anyone gets hurt. I just don't understand why talking and tackling the issue is such a damn controversy. In a weird way, it's one of the reasons why I love this show: it's not afraid to tackle the real issues and as a history and comic book geek, their mix of the realistic and fantastical is just nothing short of well-done.
Although i still HATE his suit in this show, if it were designed like the others and was just leather than it could've worked out but now it's just ugly
arcadio papito martinez no kind sir that is not so dumb that it’s a issue at hand him happen to be fat just happens to be him being a fat guy who’s racist but when you look in the mirror and then look out in the world You don’t see what you’re normally used to being around you know a white bubble it’s easier to forget that they are other human beings that don’t look like you
I gave up on The Flash a few months ago. I gave up on Arrow two years ago. I gave up on Legends of Tomorrow six episodes in. I gave up on Supergirl two episodes in... how long will Black Lightning last?
Looks good but please keep it separate from the Arrowverse. Seems like anything that premieres on CW now, fans want to connect the dots. Flash is the most popular show and it's already going to crap in it's 4th season. Supergirl wouldn't even have gotten sucked into Arrowverse if CBS hadn't cancelled it.
I love how Jefferson doesn't take any crap in this show. Not from the white racist cops and not from the black gangbangers, both of whom are terrorizing his community. He has balls, and doesn't take garbage from either. That's just bad-fucking-ass
The show has potential, if it shows things both ways. If only the cops and white guys are racist in Atlanta, it's garbage. If it makes excuses for the black gangs, it's garbage. If this scene isn't followed up by the Daughter posting that video on UA-cam and Jefferson suing the city, it's garbage.
Mr. Nostalgia You're the one who doesn't understand. This scene in particular makes no logical sense, no cop would ever do this, racist or no racist. Seriously think about it. It's ridiculous. They are basicaly escorting this asian woman around town looking for any black person who doesn't even fit any of the characteristics of the robber. Liquor stores have survailance cameras you know. Besides, cops can usualy tell a suspect from a non-suspect. I mean, the guy was with his daugthers you know. And he had a pretty neat suit and car. Why the hell would they think he was the robber? That's why it's bullshit.
Oh I see THIS is NOT going to be about a superhero people already made the series out to be about racism. So, black person with power is about racism white person with a power is a superhero. Damn! WHY I'm I surprise about this?
Mr. Nostalgia Also you probably did do something and the cop saw it. I was on my phone and I got pulled over 5 times in in 2 months. It's a bullshit reason but it's the law.
Officers, you have FAILED this city!
Keith Stinnette 😂😂
Keith Stinnette love it
Yeah
Keith Stinnette hahahah
all officers are failed
Can't wait!
TheDCTVshow same here by the way cool profile pic and name.
Mmannnn
That Asian woman must sell some pretty good liquor if she's got the cops escorting her all across town.
dbzking02 no she’s just an evil bitch
It's ashame this happens all the time where I live, hell they pulled over my mom for no reason, and she just came out the hospital the same day.
Xylo Ortega man that is messed up that just shows typical white police and there fear of black people.
i'm sorry to hear that :(
Xylo Ortega uh huh, sure
If you don't wanna believe that's your fault. It's nothing but the truth. My mom came out the hospital, and she got pulled over for no reason. Nothing was gone, she was driving the right speed limit. Even the back up officer asked why she got pulled over, when nothing was wrong.
Xylo Ortega Mm hmm yup
He was about to whoop their ass
I hope he does
I'm glad they're taking on social issues like this on the show!
This is just so much wrong and I'm feeling very terible because of this. I hate racism and racists. And I'm glad that this show will point on this problem
This seems like a really good show
PremiunHCE_ 504 yes it does.
This will be replace my need for arrow. Finally i can let that shitshow go.
steve trovae unless they find a way to link this show to the arrowverse and then every time you watch this show you will think of arrow.
Damian Starks I’m fine with that. I mean, Arrow hasn’t been great recently but everything else has been pretty damn good and 3>1. But that’s just my opinion.
Eric Puhala same here man same here.
I’m pleased that this show will be looking at issue like this should be great 👍
Harry Miles wait until static joins🔥🔥🔥
Harry Miles wait this happens in real life? Officers are dicks!
Gracekim1 yep, and there was one time when a girl lost her father right in front of her.
It also shows the black community destroying itself. The police are the least of their worries. Also, blacklighting and his family constantly show racism towards white people, but it's supposed to be ok because they're black and that automatically makes them victims.
MartiniGasolini it’s funny how your butthurt about a show scene about what happens in real life wake tf up pig lmao
I can't wait to watch Black Lightning in other scene throwing him to that police some lightning lol
It’s called a storyline
Denis Sokhom it happens often in real life a case of mistaken identity
This is not a real situation. Cops don't drive around with witnesses trying to ID suspects. That's not how the criminal justice system operates.

1:08 his voice sounds like Black Lightening lol
I didn't think CW would go there.
I got a good feeling about this one.
I hate that this actually happens all the time. Can't wait to see the show.
This looks LIT
TTGGames yep.
Damn right
Damn, this is looking great!!!! To hell with the haters and their little minds😤😤😤
Hello black lightning i will be watching
ben parker same here.
ben parker,я тоже)
Great vid to build up the hype in my opinion, great sneek peek
i wish black lightning was in the arrowverse.
He probably will, and I’m hoping he is
I think he will be but located in a different city
I think he'll crossover eventually.
DatFlashFan They can easily add him later by saying he’s from earth 40 or something.
Hoping they don't add him to it.
I'm so ready for this show.
How are we going to get rid of racism???
"I'm going to stop calling you a white man. And I'm going to ask you to stop calling me a black man."
~Actor Morgan Freeman~
This is going to be so good!
Black Lightning and Black Panther in the same year🔥🔥two black leads...one dominates movieswise and other dominates televisionwise 🔥🔥💛
The movie is gonna be good, but I highly doubt this piss poor attempt of liberal SJW correctness is going to 'dominate' anything.
Sadly in 2018 we are still facing the same struggles of racism
No... We're not. I'm not. I'm black and this isn't a thing where I live. Sounds like you need to get out of your bubble of a city/state and travel around more.
Yes we are.
we actually are
Exemp Haven That may just be your personal experience. I admit I’m black and I’ve never been pulled over but most everyone else in my family has. So has my boyfriend. Just because it’s not happening to you doesn’t mean it’s not happening.
BaggythePanther love your comment.
This bout to be lit
A powerful scene. Can't wait for the entire episode.
this is better than the time that Alex came out for a whole episode, or like when everyone in Star City was debating gun control 😪 we need more real life issues addressed in TV, and these shows are GETTING THERE
Can't wait for this!! Loved this guy since seeing him in grey's anatomy and hart of dixie
Way to make me feel old. I was thinking since 90210 (the original) & Nash Bridges
makes u feel any better i have vague memories of 90210 but they are from reruns
Am I like the only one ready for this?! So ready to watch this!!!
This look so good ;and the best thing about this show is no Felicity.😎
This is one of the many reasons why this show will be great and I can’t wait for it becuz even when your all well dressed cops can still be dumb and still do stuff like this
Kingsavardkied Harvin you may say it's great but just wait a couple years and ppl will start talking how they don't like a certain character
Ex. Felicity, iris , LOT
that's
becuz they are lame felicity i guess but iris is still great haha
Kingsavardkied Harvin Literally you’re only saying that because Felicity is white and Iris is black. Look in the mirror, racist moron.
Black lightning greatness
"This is the night, with thunder and lightning as a witness" For those who dont know his daughters are named Thunder and Lightning. (Their superhero names) LOl See how they snuck it in there?
I thought this was going to be boring but they showing real life issues there. This is going to be a different show, and I'm liking it. Can't wait until he crossed over with the flash and Joe west :-)
As long as Berlanti's lackeys don't get a bigger hand on this i think it will be awesome. In saying that, i do hope they one day link it to the rest of the verse'.
I’m already a fan of this show and it hasn’t even premiered yet
First I was like meh now I'm like DAMN hurry up someone leak the episodes
Fuck. I like it. Yea, there are good cops out there and there are these assholes as well. It's a shame a lot of people don't realize that this kind of stuff happens.
exactly
This scene was so realistic. I wish we lived in a world where we didn't have cops get away with committing crimes.
I really liked the music in this scene .
Yess
This is amazing this two minutes clip just is amazing
Holy shit this looks really good.I never expected them to explore the racial bias aspect of this character.
He looks like edris elba 😂😂😂
At first, I wasn't interested, but this piqued my curiosity
So, police corruption or racism. Either way, props for addressing current issues, CW
I see hints of the black lighting comic of the early 2000’s in this one clip
I’m glad they’re gonna be realistic and touch upon these real racial problems in our world. Bless 🙏🏽
I'm definitely looking forward to see this show.
Love this already
I don't think anyone would mind if Black Lightning zapped that officer a tiny bit
This is gonna be great
Had my doubts about this show, but it looks pretty good.
“This is the 3rd time this month!”
That’s when I knew this show was going to off-the-rails pandering from Netflix.
I'm so excited! Eeek!
*in my green arrow voice * officers YOU HAVE FAILED THIS CITY
Wow this looks good
Arrowerse has is growing every year
Aaaaaaannnnd now I'm hyped
I'm excited for a black superhero but I was hoping Static Shock would be it.
This looks so lit 🤗
And this is why DC Comics are much better seen as TV shows than in movies literally a proof to that is Arrowverse with Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow and now Black Lightning I'm so excited to see it especially that China is in there yay. When is it going to premiere in Latin America please it looks amazing.
I just hope the show doesn't end up being too heavy-handed and spend every episode talking about social justice and race relations.
dbzking02 How else do you write a black character? Like a 3 dimensional human being?
exactly every hero has their philosophical points what would be different here
You must be white
Because I'm tired of hearing/reading about race relations literally every single day?
Oh I’m excited
Wow, looks incredible
Tht was intense
His daughter is China Anne Mclaine!
Stuff like this happens all the time. There are too many cops who are overly-aggressive and needlessly causing problems.
Damn, this changed the fact that i think this show is gonna be a flop
hahaha i felt the same way and if they introduce static then it will definitely become a winner
Although i still HATE his suit in this show, if it were designed like the others and was just leather than it could've worked out but now it's just ugly
yea the suit is way too bulky
No it doesn't automatically make it a "good show", however this scene seems like it addresses a big problem in the USA, which is a good thing.
arcadio papito martinez no kind sir that is not so dumb that it’s a issue at hand him happen to be fat just happens to be him being a fat guy who’s racist but when you look in the mirror and then look out in the world You don’t see what you’re normally used to being around you know a white bubble it’s easier to forget that they are other human beings that don’t look like you
The Harassment is Real Man!
looks gd definately be watching this, lol i thought that china lady was madam gow of 'the hand'
I love it
I can’t wait
Huh. I think I'm gonna watch this.
I gave up on The Flash a few months ago. I gave up on Arrow two years ago. I gave up on Legends of Tomorrow six episodes in. I gave up on Supergirl two episodes in... how long will Black Lightning last?
SOUNDS LIKE ADD TO ME !!!!!!!!!!
ohh I loved it
I hope Imagine Dragons Lightning song will be played on this show
Looks good but please keep it separate from the Arrowverse. Seems like anything that premieres on CW now, fans want to connect the dots. drlee2 Exactly well said. Lool
Is this show going to be on HBO?
+Mr. Nostalgia excuse me, but I have HBO and I use it to watch The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl, there's no need to insult me.
I expected the cops to arrest him right away but a wave of dark matter just comes in and hits all of them
I love how Jefferson doesn't take any crap in this show.
Not from the white racist cops and not from the black gangbangers, both of whom are terrorizing his community. He has balls, and doesn't take garbage from either. That's just bad-fucking-ass
Is from earth 1?
Ooo they messed with the wrong black man
day one I'm here
I am Binged
Seems like it'll be a good first season then the CW will fuck it up just like with Arrow and the Flash.
Not earth 1 or earth 38. Dickle and Jame have no problem with this.
I wonder of Static will make an appearance in the show
i cant w8 a crossover with the other dc shows
He should have lit them with lightning
The show has potential, if it shows things both ways. If only the cops and white guys are racist in Atlanta, it's garbage. If it makes excuses for the black gangs, it's garbage. If this scene isn't followed up by the Daughter posting that video on UA-cam and Jefferson suing the city, it's garbage.
It's that girl from ant farm.
You guys know this scene didn't make any logical sense right? RIGHT?!
That's why it's bullshit.
Mr. Nostalgia Wait, a family dollar? wut?
Mr. Nostalgia Sure. you win the argument. Bye.
Is black lightning part of the arrowverse?
Ima watch this cause im black.
Oh I see THIS is NOT going to be about a superhero people already made the series out to be about racism. So, black person with power is about racism white person with a power is a superhero. Damn! WHY I'm I surprise about this?
I though it was Joe from The Flash
OMG
Looks good but one this doesn't happen that much. Two, cops help people and those 2 aren't cops. Just saying.
