I'm a big fan of Arena. It's a fun little retro dungeon crawler! I think it's quite enjoyable in terms of gameplay, even if a bit archaic. The magic system is fun to abuse, as you observed, and I genuinely like the way the game feels to play (once the WASD movement mod is installed, anyway). And I honestly really like the melee combat. It's held back a little by the fact that only one sound effect can play at a time, so the audio feedback isn't as good as it could be. But, I love the mechanic of swinging your weapon in different directions to get different effects; it adds a really nice little bit of tactical depth to the combat! (for those who don't know: 'thrust' attacks do less damage but have better chance to hit, 'chop' attacks do bonus damage but have worse chance to hit, and 'slash' attacks have no modifiers). Also, there's just something I find incredibly charming about Arena's not-quite-3D graphics. I believe it's a ray-cast rendering engine, rather than vertex-based, and it's honestly one of my favorite video game aesthetics.
Maaan Arena used to kick my ass when I was younger, then I played Daggerfall and got stuck in Privateer's Hold for days up until I made an actual decent character
If people are considering playing one of the older titles I’d recommend Daggerfall more than arena simply because it plays kind of the same but with so many upgrades to the gameplay and world, especially with Daggerfall unity Also by Daggerfall the lore and world have become a bit more fleshed out so you can interact with the temples of the divines and can talk to daedra
Not gonna lie, feel like if you mentioned Elder Scrolls in the title of the video (Not just as TES) it'd get more views. I only realized this was an Elder Scrolls video when I started watching it.

Good luck with Daggerfall, thay game is the goat. There is so much to do and get lost in that game its not even funny.
