  • Tutorial #14: This is Part 2 of two videos about integrating the Fantom 0 keyboard with a computer. In Part 1, I covered the required settings. In this video, I create a multitrack version of Psalm 110.

Thank you so much for all the videos you have made so far. I've also bought a FAMTOM-06 and it helped me a lot. I was going back to the first video and have watched them all. Awesome content !!!

Great video ! It helps me a lot, thanks. It could be great if you could do another tutorial about how export a song / convert a track into a wav file ! I have no volume on the master and when I try to export the midi, it gives me blank song 🥲.

Great idea! In the demo I just made, all the sound comes through the keyboard. But I agree it would be good to show how to bring an audio signal back to the computer and record it for later. Let me think of a good way to demo that! Thanks!

thanks for your video but Im almost over ableton. I just updated the fantom to 1.02 and ableton to the latest. It is so glitchy. One minute things work and the next its gone. Finally got the midi track to acknowledge the midi in but no sound out now. Pity either roland wont allow generic daws to connect or I can use linux without all the bs windows stuff (Bought a windows laptop especially for this but not at all happy). Ideally traction waveform etc but any of them expect you to buy everything to get good use. Just want to get to the stage where they keep working without having to go through the whole exercise every time. Any thoughts.

I hear you! I was very frustrated while I was trying to figure it out. But once I got the DAW and MIDI selections right, everything started working consistently. Hopefully it's just a settings issue for you too. That said, I never had a problem getting sound out of the computer or the keyboard. Maybe try some other input and output channels, i.e., not 1-8, 10 or 16. Those were the ones that didn't work consistently while I was learning.

@@contemporarysynth do you happen to know whether 07 can be set up to work with other daws like waveform eg

I don't know about Waveform specifically, but it works really well with Cakewalk. I get 16 channels of MIDI and audio input/output, and I can use the Cakewalk Learn function to map the FANTOM's faders and buttons. I suspect it'll be like that for most DAWs. You don't get the interface on the keyboard's LCD screen, but you get a bug-free integration on everything else. Pretty tempting... :)

Is it only tracking midi in Ableton? If your computer was disconnected from the keyboard would you still be able to play the track audio?

You're exactly right. Ableton just has the MIDI data (key presses, timing, velocities, etc.) The keyboard is generating all the audio from that data. But you could select a synth sound in Ableton and it could generate the audio instead.
