If your using AM then 10 miles is pushing it... Use SSB and you should be able to talk no prob! How is your SWR? you need a antenna with gain!! get an Antron 99
That's the problem when you buy a radio from somebody you don't know if they had a golden screwdriver in there turning things around making adjustments that's why I usually like to buy brand new in the box sometimes you can get a good used radio but like I said a lot of times somebody starts tinkering with things inside and they screw up the whole radio that may be why you're having problems
Anyone know why ppl can’t hear me? My antenna is fine on my peter (not bent broken or damaged in any way) I wasn’t the one who ran the antenna wire (factory ran) but I’d assume it’s got good ground. Any ideas?
First thing you need is a power meter to see how much power the radio is really putting out, these radio are very well known to blow the finals and have close to 0 watt output! I had one brand new from Amazon and its lasted a whole month before I had to send it back for warranty! Other thing to do is to try another radio at your place. Don't worry about turning screws in the radio, just take that piece of paper out from in front of the mic cartridge. Cell towers are 700-1200 megahertz, C.B. is 27 megahertz, so cell tower will not bother c.b. channels.
You also almost have to park the Mic in the back of your throat to get it to modulate. Also has am power pot inside they are labeled just be careful they are small. Alc pot for side band. Other than a couple little adjustments they are good radios. But nothing like my all mighty grant xl
They have a small pot inside for amc. Needs turned up a little. Take the Mic apart and remove the muffler in front of the Mic cartridge. With the anl and nb on you can't hear really well. Also a external speaker makes a night and day difference
Well I can try to get my signal out better but basically what it's coming down to is I'm getting a lot of interference from the Park Trailer Park I live in everybody's Wi-Fi everybody's Smart Meters some of the new wireless modems that they got in through the cable company are 5G it's just absolute mud of noise on the radio I'm going to have to move my antenna you're a good good ways away from my house
@@lamperist they are sensitive to led bulbs and cell phone chargers also. Now mine is running hot and the LCD display has some digits going out until it is cooled down. I punched a hole in the bottom cover and have a computer fan pulling air thru it where the internal speaker was which fixes the problem. I love to look of the radio just wished I had maybe found another ssb rig. Where are you located.
@@lamperist i have the same radio and the receiver is so sensitive to rf noise i have a hard time hearing over power lines and wifi modems. Mine when I do the rf output diagnostic in the menus it says fail. But I have a Stryker sra10 and the leds in the coil housing light up nice and bright on a dead key however I don't get any modulation on the rf out meter. I think I need to get a cheep leaner meter and see what's what.
move your antenna up a little higher maybe around 35 foot or so would help.. also if there are any large building close by either of you would hurt signal as well..
We've discovered some of what's going on I'm getting a lot of signal interference from the Wi-Fi in the park and the Wi-Fi my house and this new 5G that's coming off from my wireless modem is giving me so much noise as bad as having a alternator if it's that bad I can't hear people because of the noise being so loud I have to move my antenna away from my house
I have the same radio and can’t receive anything but the weather... have Antron 99 with ground plane.. hooked up my president McKinley and it works fine, just talked 12 miles.. I don’t know what is going on with these radios.. one tech I talked to said they were crap radios, whatever that means..bought it new on amazon.

I got the same radio I talked 20 miles on a good day out of the car
I have this same radio but pushing a 300 watt HD amp yesterday talked to California from Tennessee on am ch about 1,500 miles made My day ..
Try this, push RF gain AND HOLD it should read 5 if not turn the knob till 5 on meter.
make sure your antenna is grounded good and ground your radio

Same here can transmit barely recieves. Brand new with fire stick whip antenna. All diagnostics pass...

You should be getting 22 peak power like mine does those radios do have good recieve mine works great.

Open up that Mic and pull off that peace of plastic felt. Your breath won't even go through it when its on there. Did that and it was night and day.
