- Brian Herget from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University discusses how to get the most out of your VFR charts for local and cross-country flights. He will highlight often-used chart symbols as well as some unique chart elements you could encounter.
thank you so much for this. I am terrible at using sectionals and planning xc. I am a student working on my PPL and very new to this stuff. This has to be the most useful presentation I have had yet!
Thanks, Brian - That was extremely useful!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP... 92% today!
This video would be so much better if we could see your mouse, or some sort of marker indicating where you are talking about.
Thank you for doing this
Great presentation. Would be nice to have the timeline for topic change. I can see this being used as reference and a time line would make it an even more valuable tool. (ie 8:08 essential Elements Getting the right charts)
Thanks again
It should be helpful if you use your pointer to show what you are thinking about on the map. Thanks.
a tip : you can watch series at flixzone. I've been using them for watching lots of of movies these days.
@Jerry Benjamin definitely, I've been watching on flixzone} for months myself =)
I agree. It would be more understandable if there was a chart and the presenter went into that chart and pointed to elements and discussed. More of us are visual learners.
The video shares more wisdom than information.
Looking at the charts, it's no wonder why there are so many problems. The FAA severally overestimates just how much information someone can take in in a given moment.
The FAA should create maps the prioritize information. For instance: it shouldn't matter why a restricted airspace is restricted--only that it's restricted. Only your legal counsel or next of kin needs to know which military route you crossed and should not have.
Thank you for the useful download links..
Thank you for a great post
wonderful Thank you very detailed
Thanks. Good info.
Using an orange highlighter for night flights works. Oddly, it will look a bit dark like a pencil color but easier to see since its wider.
Good video!
Thomas Parrish
Thanks for the video, i i strongly recommend that you use a highlighted mouse Pinter. You lost me
outstanding. RF
where can we still purchase VFR charts
Isn’t 8 SM converted to 6.9518 nautical miles? So think 10?
Which sectional charts to get Indiana?
If FAA is not selling maps who is and where are they printed, private contractor?
not sure why you wouldnt use your pointer showing the areas and symbols your talking about through out the presintation. It would be much better
Thanks! good over all information but If you used a “pointer” it would have been much better
Pointless - pun taken ;) :'D
You have a point
Damn, I uhhhh, was umm, really ahhhh looking forward to uhhh, learning something, ahhh, here.
Okay but did not highlight where you re
So I guess the Chinese will be printing my charts too now.
Embry Riddle man and you are telling me that longitude lines run horizontally.???
hey bud you need to mark on the sectional the spots you are talking about. very hard to follow.
Just a little after 45:00.. "um yellow, because that's what it looks like at night?" What? First off this is a VFR chart (day chart) and secondly, those yellow silhouettes depicts densely populated areas... just fyi.
Is. The earth flat ? Thanks
“In’s” should be “ums
Good try. You are all over the chart. I been doing this for 43 years and I can’t follow you at all.
Visibility 15 - 20 sm*
Record number of "Ahhhhhh's" and "Ummmmmm's." Display a large map with print so blurred no one knows what and where you're talking about. Leaving out some of the most important info and dwelling on the obvious. I listened for 56 minutes and couldn't take anymore. Bye!
i believe the the title of this was how to read SC. a simple this means this and that means that. way over thought!
Really?? You must not be a pilot. Or not a very good one. Its difficult to "over think" in aviation. And that fact is written in lives....lost.
Ah,ah,uh, ah, Must be couple hundred of these. For a person with such credentials, this is unforgivable. Terrible.
Way to uh, cram, uh, 20 minutes,uh, of, uh, info, in to, uh, an hour and a uh, half. I have slit my wrist and no longer can fly anyway. Jesus!!!!
the presenter has a lot of accomplishments but teaching so people understand is not one of them.
For the map: typical government crap. Have to spend so much time to find just a simple map, but to print it, forget it, pure impossibility. What ever, much simpler to go to local FBO and save myself time and effort !!!!!! At lest tell the viewers what to expect if they haven't dealt with our "FINE" government hoopla before!!!!!!!!
Lost me
um. . . um. . .ah. . . um. terrible.
Matthew Peterson spoken like a true commercial pilot. ‘We’re uhmmm flying at uhm 32 thousand feet. Uhhhmmmm I’m going to turn the seat belt sign off and you are welcome to uhmmmmm walk the cabin. Flight time is uhhmmm 2 hours and uhhh 40 minutes.”
Joking aside, I’m still glad he went through this. Good content in my opinion.
The information was great however after about 20 min into the program I started tuning into your um word whisker and um it started to overtake um the information um and then I had to stop watching um because I was only listening um to your word um whisker, there is no doubt um that you know your stuff um but to be a better um public speaker um you need to loose the um word whisker. Just giving some counsel that could make your presentation so much better .
Too many “uhs” and “in’s”: please be Professional and Write A Script First !
it makes no difference what your knowledge or qualifications are if you cant teach properly
boring
First few minutes are boring just get on with the learning bit not your personal life etc
