I like hearing your take on things. In the Marine Corps we did lots of running and body weight exercises. At 52 I do lift weights ones a week and body weight ext the rest of the week.
I do weighted dips weighted pull ups overhead press and barbell rows for upper day. Lower I do barbell squats, Dumbell lunges and kettlebell swings. But every time I go back to a strictly calisthenics phase I feel the best, and the minimalistic approach removes all the stress the comes with lifting weights. Calisthenics is my first love

Calisthenics is for warriors, anybody can lift weights. I do calisthenics, burpees, running and swimming and I am ripped af. Never liked and never used weights. I will ad bicicle and muay thai in the future.
Id say a bit of weights helped me, only been doing them for 6 months and grapplingwise it helped a lot. But i am sure the wrestling way where they emphasise on gymnastics style workouts translates much better to be moving explosively and fluidly
I have to lift to stay above 160. I am fast and explosive when doing calisthenics but I am tiny. Being strong is important for me. I never want to be met with a challenge I fail because I wasn’t strong enough.
So the real point of the video is being big doesn't necessarily make all your muscles functional. That's why I started doing calisthenics too. To be able too control your own body weight. I was way too big and I noticed how stiffed I was. I got noticeably slower when I was skinny due to too much muscle mass. The thing about bodybuilding is they indeed make your bone structure develop to grow stronger but only for LIFTING. Weightlifters only train for lifting and it's no surprise if they can't do much harder and flexible bodyweight training like calisthenics athlete does. Bodybuilders train for size and strength. Calisthenics train for functionality and lean body weight.
Its so hard for me to give up the strength that comes with old fashioned barbell lifts. I do it once a week mike mentzer style which goes well with martial arts training i find
For dynamic movement and power heavy weight lifting is almost useless. You get better benefits from isometrics plyometrics calisthenics. Working in some light medium weights is not a bad thing but heavy lifting is to much of a risk of injury for most people.
Tom Aspinall and Islam Makhachev seem to incorporate both Weights and Calisthenics. I believe even Dricus Du Plessis also does both. Best to do both calisthenics and weights rather than doing one over the other.
Nate did a lot of stupid stuff tbh. Strickland is interesting because he's known for his conditioning and certainly isn't lacking strength. A lot to be said for simply developing your body in line with the specific function. Why couldn't one develop sport specific strength by simply training the sport, after all? Still, if I don't train weights my numbers plummet and that feels bad lol

Calisthenics is not superior to weights it’s superior to machines which stabilizers are not activated
Nate Diaz and Sean Strickland don’t do much if any weights if you believe the articles. Lack of weights doesn’t seem to be holding them back
K Boges is another example of not using weights (not a fighter)
