  • As spring training and little league seasons are getting underway, we wanted to provide solutions to players at all levels. Baseball, as it has been said by many coaches, is “90% preparation and 10% action”. However, it is a sport of repetition and requires precise execution. Shoulders are the biggest body part topic in the sport. Dr. Lin had his baseball career cut short with a torn labrum, two rotator cuff tears and two ligaments torn on his throwing arm. He's had many years to reflect. So today, we're exploring what leads to the breakdown and he's sharing what he would have done differently in his own baseball career to prevent injury!

This was awesome, when I did the last stretch my shoulder felt fine after and I could throw with little pain.

I am getting back into softball at age 70 after a 25 year absence, I know I can’t go out and start humming the ball like it was yesteryear. This is good info so I can get the throwing muscles and ligaments prepared for the oncoming onslaught. Good advice!

My shoulder kills me when I throw now. It’s on the back side of my shoulder. It’s too the point to where it’s bothering me laying down and even just sitting here sometimes

Do a lot of scap retraction exercises, keep posture good, don’t let the shoulder roll forward

Thanks for all this. How long do you hold the position? Is it seconds or until failure?

This is great. I play travel and school softball. Also I have a question. When I do long toss my arm goes numb for a couple seconds. Do you know what this is? Should I get it checked out?

This used to happen to me too, I think it was just a pinched nerve

i havent thrown a baseball in 7 years and when I used to pitch I never had any arm pain... After throwing now, my shoulder does hurt but I am unsure if it is soreness from not throwing for years and over time I will build strength or if it is "bad" pain and I should not continue. I do as much as I can to get loose and strengthen my shoulder but am worried that ANY pain is bad pain. I am taking the next couple months to slowly build strength but want to avoid injury. Thoughts? Thanks for your time. Great video too.

I started playing again after almost 20 years and even though I threw a lot and had a great arm eventually I tore my labrum. This year I did weight training and have had a lot less issues and gained a lot of velocity. Talked to an ex pro and he said the same thing when he came back from a torn rotator. So add weight training and band training. I just do 15 lbs 30 to 40 reps on raises in multiple directions every day.

Strength training should be your main focus when coming back to throwing after a long hiatus, needa build back the ligaments. Take it slowly, and work your way back to 100%

i tore m’y labrum in my posterior region, and i did pt for it and it doesn’t bother me; but it’s my front deltoid in my shoulder that hurts everytime i throw. i havé no idea what to do. i play short and i’m scared i’m gonna injure my arm even more.

I had a SLAP labrum tear and also a slight tear of the Infraspinatus after 20 years of tennis and a few of baseball. Poor technique and arm care, and the lack of strength training were to blame.

When I move my shoulder clock or counter clockwise, there is some serious clicking or bone cracking sound. Not necessarily hurting, but it sounds like bones are grinding and tearing away or something.
