With the wildfires raging across Canada, many people have been asking how my family and I have been fairing. I give an update on our situation. Plus, I build a "twig" railing and ladder for the cabin loft.

I prefer how you don't often post new videos but when you do they are full of amazing content. Definitely a case of quality over quantity. 😊

I like both styles. This one focuses on one project at a time. Others sort of show the time span it takes and how they accomplish really difficult issues.

Yep. With the long periods in between I might even prefer long videos, like 30-40 min videos instead of 20 min.

Wow! That banister and railings.....so patient, attention to detail, one step at a time....I get that totally as here on PEI we are still on recuperating from hurricane Fiona....I am responsible for the 8 acre home land of conservation forest that flattened or snapped trees in half. Hiring chainsaw people to help as I haul branches to roadside, lift-haul and stack blocked trees to the pallet cribs I make from thrown away from local hardware store in our small village and use the lumber truck tarps they discard once they unload the lumber. I hope in 2 yrs the forest will return to a safer and cleaner state. I made a path system but it is totally blocked from the hundreds of trees that were pushed and uprooted. So "Mr. Jr. Outsider" I totally appreciate your way of going about what you do. One step at a time....keeping the faith it will get done while maintaining quality and feeling good inside about maintaining focus to keep going. Cheers from Central North shore Prince Edward Island. Appreciate deeply your sentiments about the people involved in helping contain the fires and the people and animals who have suffered. 💝🇨🇦

I would like to address all the prep time. The cutting and cleaning and preparing of all the individual railing pieces, before you put them up. The gathering of all the particular tools and hardware. And then there is the changing of the camera angles. Your 20 minute video requires probably 6 to 8 hours of prep at the very least. I appreciate every second of it. Truly a craftsman. Your mom and dad is looking down on you smiling.

AMEN to all the Firefighters and support crew and volunteers that are out there on the lines! I'm in California, and we are constantly aware of the importance and need of these amazing and giving people. Such a blessing. Many years ago now my grandmother lost almost everything in a house fire, she was in her early 80's and she had a bird that she loved. Not only did the firefighters save almost half of her home, but the side of the house that was burning had her bird in it, which they went in and got for her. Honestly, looking back now, I don't think she could have recovered from this had she not gotten that darned bird. She knew the house could be rebuilt, but she'd had many years with that bird and his loss would have been profound. Having him gave her hope and the desire to rebuild and get their home back. As crazy as I thought that was back then, now I get why they try so hard to save pets, because sometimes that's what helps people's emotional and mental well-being as they take on the future. I'd always thought it was a waste of time, but that is no longer how I think at all. Even if it's just a bird. After losing two husbands, she really needed that bird, and the firefighters understand this more than most.

The cabin is beautiful, I particularly like the way you and your father have overbuilt everything. One thing I could suggest to you if I may is to insert glass into the facets on the Gable end those triangular facets you have would look nice with triple-glazed glass

Your craftsmanship is amazing. It's been a joy to watch you over the years, first with the little cabin, then with this epic project, and all the smaller projects in between, like the pop up cabin or the snow mobile camper.
I hope the winds & rain will cooperate to end the wildfires. I know how stressful it is to you , even though the fires are not near you, knowing that your countrymen are in peril. I pray that the danger will end soon.

That twig railing is absolutely stunning. Watching you work is like watching Rembrandt paint one of his masterpieces. Stay safe and may God continue his work in you. On another note I live in Daytona Beach Florida and when we had the fires in 1998. I remember leaving our home and watching embers coming over our roof. We did not lose anything but the sometimes deadly force of nature is never to be taking lightly - as we can see by all our hurricanes and the incredible fury of water and wind.

GREAT job Brother Outsider! I was curious why you didn't do more finishing on the loft ladder before you put it in place. But if we've learned anything from watching you we know that usually an explanation will be forthcoming.
If I'm not mistaken I believe this would be the 1st Father's Day without your Pop around. I want to 1st wish you a wonderful Father's Day and hope it was a BLESSED, memorable day for you and remind you that even though he is no longer with you in body his memory and legacy certainly lives on and through you. Psa.34:18
The more Father's Days that pass without my dad around the more thankful I become for all the things he passed on to me. It's wonderful that you will be able to pass his legacy on to your children as well. And that even though they may be young they at least got to meet and know him too. Psa 127:5💖

You have continued to impress me through this entire build. I have been watching you from the very beginning when you were picking out trees to cut and laying out the cabin site. There were times when I would be thinking, "just go ahead and nail of board up and get it done so you can go on. And now that we see the nearly finished project, I"m so glad you did it your way instead of mine. Great job and may God continue to bless your family.

Appreciate all your attention to function and form, and also guessed you had others in mind when building such tight steps. How wonderful that is! Appreciate that you always say “God Bless” and so as a Buddhist nun shall say in return “Buddha bless, too!”

Ive always been honest when I comment to you. So here goes.....
After you described what you were planning I thought to myself OH no!!! That's going to ruin the looks of the interior of
the cabin! What the heck can you be thinking?
But then when you finished OMG! It fits right in and looks GREAT! I've learned my lesson, You cannot judge an
unfinished project! Now from the penny's, to the "see thru door", and then this beautiful intricate interwoven hand made
railing all I can say is if I was your Dad looking down from heaven I would say "That's my son and I'm real PROUD of
    him!!!"
But I will say this...WAY TO GO DUDE!!!! Better than excellent! Love all your ideas. Such creativity. Has anybody ever
told you that you are an artist?!?
I also agree with what you said bout the stair case. Greatly impressed, Me southern AZ.

Amen to your comments on the fires. I live in Minnesota and we have had some smoke/air quality issues here due to the wildfires, which has been hard on my Covid-damaged lungs. But not as much as in some other areas. My prayers for everyone affected and for you and your family’s safety. “Stay safe, be well, and God bless,”

Absolutely perfect for that beautiful cabin ! And I agree with try and see. My dad had a saying as did many of our dads and grandfathers: if it’s worth doing then it’s worth doing RIGHT ! I’ve taught it to my children and have probably quoted it thousands of times but I stand by it to this day ! Take care my friend and thanks for the update
