I drove through there in 06. One of the coolest days of my life. The high school was still there and had chain link fences all around it. I walked around the whole school. Just awesome. The coolest thing that happened and 1 of the only regrets in my life, I drove out to the Winslow house, recognized it, sat in my Jeep looking at it, and at 1 point the porch lights turned on, a front door started to open, and I slowly drove away. I had been told the Winslow family was very friendly to Jimmy fans earlier in the day at the museum, but I chickened out! June 2006.
I was born in marion. My parents lived in fairmont at the time. The Winslow family were friends of my family. My grandma's church buddies. Thanks for the remarkable connect!
My mom was a teacher so I can relate to your mother fixing your grammer...my mom dad the same thing.. I love that the town hasn't changed. RIP James Dean. Wonderful vlog
My great grandpa lived in a house across from the cemetery and you could see it from the front windows. Both of my grandparents are now buried there along with James Dean. Its been forever since I've traveled up to Indiana for a visit.
I’m a huge James Dean fan, so I loved this vlog! I have to say that even though I have watched a lot about him, this has been my favourite. I just always admire your style of vlogging. You are very talented with sharing history and facts that is very interesting to me. What a great way to spend time with your mom!
I grew up in Matthews, IN. About 15 minutes away from there. My dad met James Dean when he was a kid as he lived there. And a guy I worked with years ago grew up with James Dean.
James came from a Quaker home. Just researched his past when you mentioned the friends church. How neat to see his grave and the gracious sensitivity of the town to memoralize his life and film legacy. No telling what great roles he would have given us had he lived a long life. On another note, hilarious Huge green eyeglasses--it is you!
Lovely video and narrative bio of James Dean’s home town life. How wonderful that he would recognize the farm house and town where he grew up! Live on James Dean and that rascal Garfield.
Im a big james dean fan. Got him tattooed on my back. Wish i could get out there and see all the places he was and lived and the gallery. Im actually watching east of eden right now. Thanks for sharing this Jordan. Loved it so much x
Why do you think James Dean's memory lives on to the extent it still does? After all, he only appeared in 3 movies. Is his longevity as a cultural icon solely down to the tragic and untimely nature of his death, and the symbolic value our society gets from that. A beautiful young person with their whole life ahead of them being suddenly killed in an awful accident. Creates lingering questions of what might have been etc. Did his death symbolise the end of an era in American history, with the crazy 1960s just around the corner? It's odd, I'm interested in James Dean yet I'm not too sure why. Any thoughts?
@@NosyFella For me, it is not his early death. I was born many years after his death and saw him on television for the first time when I was a teenager. It was Love at first sight. I was sad when I learned that he was no longer alive.🥺 It's his eyes, his sensitive lips, his shy smile and demeanor. He had something very special. Love forever.💫🕊
What a sad story about a small town boy making it big. He was a wonderful actor. My favorite movie is Giant as well, also because of Elizabeth Taylor, as I am a huge fan of her too. It's great how his hometown remembers him through all these years. My mother grew up in the Rebel Without a Cause years, and I remember her telling me about him when I was very young. She also told me about the death of Sal Mineo, which is very tragic.
Myself and my best friend made the trip to Fairmount in 1984 and 85. We drove from Ohio, about an hour and a half trip in mid October I believe. It was a fantastic experience and we walked the streets and paid our respects. I knocked on the door and the very nice gentleman sat and talked with us for about 30 minutes. We got to at risk comb through the high school. All in all a GREAT TIME. Bought a 12pack of Olympia beer for the drive home. No museum at the time of our visit. Thanks.
What a wonderful tribute to James Dean. I LOVE CEMETERIES AS WELL!!!!. Fantastic!!!! Such a promising life cut short😢😢. It's so heartwarming that you and your mom are having quality time❤❤❤. Mothers are always a child's biggest fan😉. For the most part. Thank you for the great vlog😊. You never fail your fans....be safe. Much love to you and Jah and your loving family 💕. Enjoy your time with them👍
I was born in Marion Indiana also but I was raised in Fairmount Indiana until I graduated from Marion high School my family members are buried in Fairmount Indiana my grandma is buried one row across from James B.Dean
I think your vlog on James Dean has got to be one of the most thorough and educational I've seen. I'll never be able to visit and see all this but I you make us feel like we're there with you. Thank you.
My dad's 1st wife went to school with him. His fan club put THE most beautiful and intricate wreath on his grave this year for the anniversary of his passing just 2 days prior to my visit. Actually came to see another grave and decided might as well see Mr. Dean while there. Jim Davis(garfield) had his headquarters near my home until recently.
I love living in small towns - less hustle and bustle. The only negative thing is everyone knows everyone else's business. Thanks for the tour, Jordan! Very interesting and informative. :-)
I did not know James Dean was an artist as well. My father-in-law painted that same bullfighters painting that James Dean painted. My father-in-law also wore a leather jacket like James Dean when he was young. Great vlog with a lot of history; thank you Jordan. It was also nice hearing your mom in the background. That Mexican food looks yummy too❣️❤️🙏🏻
I didn't know much about James Dean before I started watching your vlogs. This one is my 2nd favorite of your vlogs. I will definitely put this on my bucket list to go see. Thank you!
James Dean was here for such a short time but made a big impression on a lot of people. I never thought I would get to see his hometown and grave site. Thank you and your mom for showing this. I really enjoyed this vlog.
I got so excited when I saw this! I grew up hearing all about James from my parents who were fans. Giant is in my top 5 all time favorite movies, He was fantastic in it and every time its on TV I watch it. I've read everything that I can find about him, both good and bad but I chose to believe the good. To think, I was one year old when he died and I am now 64 and he is still such an impact on us fans. Thank you SO MUCH for this and HI Patti! Love your Mom!
Very interesting to see his humble beginnings and how he has become larger than life after his tragic death. Great that you and your mom could do a vlog together, even if she avoided the camera :) It is sad that his life was cut so short. Great job telling his story Jordan. Thank you both!
Great vlog. Yep your mom is a mom . Still correcting your grammar. I thought that was funny. So happy you and her took a car trip out to see James Dean's hometown. You can see in middle America everything remains the same. All the old buildings as still there. Sad to think people stole things from Jame's grave. It would be even worse if he was buried in Los Angeles. I'm glad he had a normal life when he was a kid. I wonder what he'd be doing if he was still here? Love all the info and all the places you took us to. Can't wait to see where you take us tomorrow. Thanks to you and your mom for the lovely vlog. Take care and see you tomorrow.
They buried him here because his family wanted him here at home. I am from 20 minutes south of Fairmount and know the history and the people around here. He was very close to his aunt and uncle who raised him and the whole town was so proud of him. And yes, Carter's, the building, used to be a schoolhouse. Many of these one room school houses still stand on county roads around here, although most are abandoned and in disrepair. I used to explore them and take pictures. Thx for upload!
That cemetery is fabulous. There is actually some space between the people. They're not all jammed up together shoulder to shoulder like all the other cemeteries you see. One of my favorite all time movies is East of Eden. I love that movie lots. And the book, too. Rest in Peace, James.
What a great vlog, Jordan, you never disappoint and I hunger for what you put up next. You keep the past alive like no one else! Good things in your future, as this is most definitely your calling. Knowledgeable, likeable, humble, thorough, interesting. An everyman telling us about the everyman. Always good to see you enjoying your family! Edit: To Jordan's mom, please stop him from saying gidda instead of get to, it makes my teeth itch.
I to like cemeteries especially the old ones, traveling out west once with my mom .we came across across one up on top of a hill . Inscribed on stones 1800's head stones read crazy things. Name, date was hung horse thief and some things like that. So cool...
This is so surreal. For me being thousands of miles away in Europe this would be a dream come true being there so close to where Jimny lived and breathed.
I l ived in the area as a kid. Use to go to dances in the Fairmount school gym when it was used as a Jr High in the early 70's. I went to the new High School, Madison-Grant (the 2 counties) on the highway outside of Fairmount around 1973- 76, It's a nice conservative town then. There was no huge tourist ideas then around Dean. Though they would show the movie East of Eden in the auditorium at School for the students once a year. For those of you that lived there then, remember our swimming hole - Clear Water Park! What times! It was a remodeled rock quarry. I believe the cemetery stone has been replaced many times. I also know that the one there now isn't that old but has been there maybe 15 years. Maybe they found one that can't be chipped easily. Before, People kept chipping away at it rill it was ruined. Even as a kid way back in the 60's there was talk about how to keep it from being destroyed. Everyone wants a keepsake. All those years as a kid living there, the only place I seen a photo of Dean was in the school Library in a Hollywood stars movie book. Looks like you won't miss him today. Haven't been there in many years. Dad sold the farm outside of Fairmount and biz took me elsewhere.Additionally, My dad knew his step parents - The Winslows (they are buried close to Jimmy) and had been to their farm on occasions and in their home. I also heard stories of how Dean would hang out at the local drug store (it was pointed out to me. Believe it used to be the building in your video where you compared him and his likeness is now on the side of the building.) reading comics. Got to remember he was just another boy in a very small town with not a lot to do. Basketball was king in those small rural towns and I remember going to a bunch of the HS games. My girlfriend's brother was a starter and they lived right in Fairmount. Her mother drove the school bus. SO, Jimmy was pretty much just an average kid then. PS... Sorry, I wrote most of this before I watched most your video so you clarified so I repeated. I watched your Mary anne vid yesterday and this popped up today. Funny.
I love your channel! I just discovered you a few days ago. After my parents divorced, my dad got a job in Marion. I spent a summer there in the mid 1990s and loved going to all these sites.
What a wonderful day! Thanks for the memories! I have heard about him and his tragic death but that’s all! You gave me his life story! I did see Giant but barely remember anything! I am going to try and find it. Thank You, Jordan🌹
❤️❤️❤️❤️ thank you Jordan! Loving this share of the stomping grounds of James Dean! He was a larger than life , beautiful wild spirit...Enjoyed every minute !
Loved this vlog Jordan, James Dean was my first teenage love (many moons ago) my bedroom walls were covered with his pictures so I really appreciate seeing this. Thank You :)
That statue of Jimmie in the bathrobe is a depiction of a famous still photo from a play he performed on Broadway called "The Immoralist". It's called "The Scissor Dance". That is so cool!
I also love cemeteries, my boyfriend thinks it's morbid to walk around a cemetery that you don't have anyone you know in. I find that funny when he is such a history buff and there is so much history in cemeteries. I really loved this vlog and would have liked to seen your mom. I know she's glad to have her boy at home for a little while. Take care and enjoy your family.
What a fantastic!! Vlog!!!.. So Interesting!!!!.. He seemed to have a good childhood.. LOVED!! the glasses you had on!.. Again, great Vlog!!!.. Thank You!!!!
I loved that black monument where James family lived when he was born.they did a beautiful job on it.Wow, LOVED seeing all the places you stopped at to see James Dean memorabilia🎥....I've heard of him of course who hasn't, you've peaked my interest 🎬so now I want to see his movies. 🎞thanks, Jordan 🦁
Great James Dean vlog with you and your mum! I've been a JD fan forever and I'm loving this!! It'll be so cool if you do get to speak to Marcus Winslow!!!
You should do a blog when they have the James Dean festival. I live about 40 miles north of Fairmont, and I played in a band for many years and our band played at the James Dean festival a few times. It's a great time, and you should check it out. Thank you for sharing the James Dean blog. It makes me proud to be a Hoosier and a life time resident of Indiana.
My mom & I also made the pilgrimage to Fairmont and visited these places around 2000 or so. Really great town!! I got to see the outside of the high school. It was already condemned and I couldn't go in.
This is awesome vlogging with your Mom. What a beautiful memorial for James Dean , he made such a huge impression.. You did your homework with all the places , what a great history of his life. Perfect timing for the grave, great to see her art. The architecture is s beautiful step back in time. The museum is so full of amazing items I can't stop saying Oh WOW . Can't wait for tomorrow !
Apparently the crash wasn't what killed him. When the ambulance arrived, they didn't put him in a neck brace, just loaded him onto a stretcher (and his friend) and off they went. While on their way to the hospital, the ambulance was also in a wreck, and the jolt from that and the fact his neck wasn't stabilized is what ultimately killed him.
I love James dean I been there it is the best place ever to see thank you for making a blog of James dean I love all your blogs too I love to go back there to visit
What a great vlog and wonderful compliment to the previous tributes you’ve done for James Dean! I think what made it kind of nice is that your Mom accompanied you in this one, nothing beats sharing adventures with beloved family! I hope she’s getting plenty of puppy-love from Jah too!
At :50 you are in Montpelier, Indiana. That same Indian chief appeared on the opening credits of the TV show Parks and Recreation for the 1st season. You were at a filming location and didn't realize it?
I live in Fairmount and the reason they bulldozed is because the brick kept crumbling down and the stage is just down the road at the park!! And you have a great vlog✌✌💙💚💜💛
Great vlog Jordan. Not to far from me about 50 miles north , but there use to be a James Dean museum in Gas city Indiana right off highway I 69 exit 59. It closed in 2005 because of financial problems. I`m glad that the gallery has all his items and wasn`t sure what happened to them after the museum closed. Thanks so much for finding this. I will visit.
One of my favorite actors of all time. I am a Santa Monica native. I believe James Dean lived on my block (26 Street.) He might have gone to the same schools I attended here in Santa Monica, McKinley Elementary and Santa Monica College. He also attended Ucla, my birth place.
I am a big Jimmy fan. Got to ride in the black '49 Merk used in Rebel and sit where Natalie sat! (The car was housed at the Harrah's Car Museum at the time, back in the late ''80's.) Also was a pen pal with Hugh Caughell, Jimmy's biology teacher--several years ago. Thank you for this great vlog, Jordan!
That was great. Jordan I dont even remember but I may have left a comment the first time I watched this. I have all three of his movies on Blu ray. Ive watched all of them several times. Between him and Patrick Swayze were two of the sad stories that came out...well that and the other stories that have come out of several of his costars...Natalie Wood and the guy that played the poor kid in Rebel...I cant even think of his name now.Great job Jordan!
James spent a Fair 'Mount of time in that town
LoL...Nice play on words Adam...Have a great day...
Oh that Woo ☺
Lol that was painful
And you didn't even ask my mom.
😘😘😘
I love the Winslow farm!!! OMG my dream house!!! I'm so glad it's still owned and run by the family

Most of Paul Newman's parts around the time of Jimmy's death would have been his.

Thanks!
I live about an hour and 45 min away and I had no idea! I'll have to come here!
Make sure you hit the historical museum and tell them i sent you!
I love James dean I been there it is the best place ever to see thank you for making a blog of James dean I love all your blogs too I love to go back there to visit

my husbands family lives close to Fairmount. We've been to James Dean days many times, but never saw his childhood home, or grave. Thanks Jordan :)
I live in South Korea, but I wanna going to visit Jimmy's grave before getting older.
Thank you for upload a WONDERFUL video!
and Love you Jimmy♥ xx
As a lifelong James Dean fan (Born in 1955, the year he died)
this gets a AAA+++!!!!
Thank you. Very very kind of you
What a great vlog and wonderful compliment to the previous tributes you’ve done for James Dean! I think what made it kind of nice is that your Mom accompanied you in this one, nothing beats sharing adventures with beloved family! I hope she’s getting plenty of puppy-love from Jah too!
Thank you
I am from Indiana and I have been to Fairmount several times
At :50 you are in Montpelier, Indiana. That same Indian chief appeared on the opening credits of the TV show Parks and Recreation for the 1st season. You were at a filming location and didn't realize it?
Welcome to Indiana. My home state Love your vLogs Jordan.
How sad that the school is gone! Its a shame! They could have made it into a museum. Great vlog 👍 👌
I live in Fairmount and the reason they bulldozed is because the brick kept crumbling down and the stage is just down the road at the park!! And you have a great vlog✌✌💙💚💜💛
Hello Jordan, Mom, and Jah. I really enjoyed you doing this.
I love cemeteries too.
Wish you could come back and visit us. The Minnetrista in Muncie will have a bob Ross exhibit next week some time!
Very cool to see all of this! Too bad you couldn't see more on the old farm huh?
SO fascinating Jordan! Thank you as always for taking us along! Loved this trip very much! Cheers from Sacramento!
My name is on the White Stone beside the grave. I was there september 2017. 🥰
I live about 30 miles from Fairmount. Thanks!!!
Thanx for all the details of his life before becoming famous..if I am ever in that area, I will definitely check it out...!!!
This is a wonderful vlog Thank you Jordan and co pilot Mum
Dear Jordan, Thanks a lot for this vlog about James Dean and his hometown. Greetings from Berlin
Thankyou so much great awesome video!! I've been a james dean fan since I was kid I named my son james byron after my idol
Great vlog Jordan and Mum Fairmont is a pretty town so sad about his high school. It's so green out there. RIP James
Special vlog with your Mom! Thanks!
highly recommend Morrissey's video for "suede head"...shows the high school, and the farm.
I'm Not a huge James Dean fan but found this video to be REALLY interesting and fun
Thanks so much!
This is awesome I love to go to Fairmount IN. James Dean was a great guy. Love it.
