  • I made a simple wind simulator for my sim rig. It is a very cheap DIY project using my old Arduino UNO, bought the Arduino MotorShield v2 module, and use some old unused CPU casing fans, 12v adapter, and leftover IKEA brackets and screws in my toolbox.
    Made in Malaysia 2022.
    List of items -
    Arduino UNO R3
    Arduino Motorshield V2 module
    2 x 120mm, 12v DC fan. I'm using 2 pin, and 0.8A fan.
1 x 12v 1A DC power adapter which i recycled from a broken device adapter
    A couple of L brackets
I'm also using SIM HUB to interface the telemetry from the game to the arduino.
The game is Forza Horizon 5. It also works with any game that supports exporting telemetry data, such as Assetto Corsa, F1, and even Euro Truck Simulator 2.
This is just an initial test. Planning to perform some upgrade on the fan placement and ducting later, so let's just wait for a version 2 video once the ducting arrived!
Feel free to comment below if u got anything to ask, or some better suggestions on how to do things.

In the video description, I think you meant to write 120mm fans, not 12 inch fans.

Doesn’t have option for shaker motor shield v2 anymore….

Do i have to use the Arduino branded board or is it okay to go with a cheaper clone alternative?

as long as it uses the same chipset, should be okay.

Gracias

hi, perhaps you can try to double check the port assigned to the usb/simhub interface when you change the pc. hope this helps.

what is the frequency # for? when you set up the motorshield. I watched another video and they said to set it to 400 (you said 1600)...im trying to troubleshoot my problems :)

i'm not an electronic expert but i'll try to explain my level best. PWM is the control of sending the "analog" signal to the motor. Higher pwm means the board sends longer "writes" in the frequency. In some dc motor, sending higher PWM would decrease, or eliminates the humming sound.

@@EDHness ok, i sort of understand what the nunber does. Why 1600 and not just leave the default of 1900 !if higher/longer data stream could be quiter??

@@nitepeople76 well for the dc motor i used, which is the normal computer case fan, can hear slight buzzing at lower PWM, but at default 1900 it wheezes sometimes. it may be different for different manufacturer, however, on most of my tries, 1600 seems to be like hitting the safe sweet spot for most motors. hope this helps ya :)

@@EDHness thanks for the clarification. I started from scratch again and got it all working at 400. I have a nice set of brushless server fans that i think go up to 3700 rpms. Im tempted to try another sketch again at 1600 just to see, but it blows fine with no wine. If i had to tweek anything now i would like to get them to spin up more gradual. now its like it just has off/low/high setting thats all. I wonder if the frequency # will effect that?

@@nitepeople76 in some way PWM will and does have effect on the speed variance of the brushless dc motor. yes i believe u are going to the right direction by gradually increase and see which one suits the most.

Can you use 2 fans with one arduino? Or you have to use multiple arduinos?

Does it matter if i buy arduino uno v3? Will it work?

    • @EDHness

yes it should work as long as it uses the same microcontroller ATMega328.
