Yes you can, though I opted to do without here to keep the costs down. You'll see in the pedal vibration motor video I do just that, however you'll still need to wire up the pwm to ensure you have variable speed.
Hello brother , first of all thanks for the great video . I have did exactly as shown in the video and have a few problems . My fans would immediately kick in when plugging in the psu so i connected a relay switch to activate them , the thing is that no matter how much i tried tweaking simhubs settings (windsim,shakeit motors) I could not get my fan to work properly. When i launch a race they stay on at 20% id say , when i turn left and right nothing happens, they only start working after I’ve accelerated to above 100mph , and when i slow down they almost abruptly go back to 20% Can you help me plz?
This could somewhat be a trait of the fans you've picked, though there is also a gotcha in the Simhub firmware with two very similar names, one pretty much works almost as a on-off switch and that initially caught me out. Double check that first, but if not, let's see if we can debug it together.

Yes, they are very loud. But I still have to wire up my more powerfull powersuply because when i play the fans don’t reach full speed and stop spinning. If I manually start the fans slowly the fans work at full power. I gues my 3 amp powersuply is not powerfull enough for 2x 3.4 amp fans lol.
Thank you for your guide. After trying for several weeks to make it work with motor shield clone and frying one Arduino Uno board I switched to your solutions and it worked like a charm. Now I have to move from my breadboard to a similar soldered solution. I use 2st 4000RPM 12V 3A fans from Amazon and 200W power supply (12v 16.7A). So I have more than enough power to drive fans. I have noticed that there is no way to turn fans off all the way. Even if I disable Idle wind or turn off my PC. It's already rather bodged solutions so I wonder if there is some setting that can be tweaked to achieve this? I don't need one more switch in my life. Turning everything on is already more complicated that Boeing start procedure :) But if next upgrade will be central console then one more switch won't harm :)
Hi, the linked fans on Amazon say they’re 12v? I’ve had a look on eBay for Noctua NF-A14 Industrial 3000 PWM fans and they all seem to be 12v. Any idea?
www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BKGTX5QX/ looks to be unavailable right now and Noctua have swapped out for a 12v variant with seemingly the same specs. You could adjust the circuit to use a 12v PSU and use those new fans or try and hunt down the increasingly elusive 24v variant. Thanks for pointing out this change, I'll update the description so people don't accidentally purchase the wrong model and end up with lots of smoke and burned out motors!
@@Teqqlesdoessimracing perfect! Also, just to confirm you’re running 2 x 24V Fans in Series with 1 24V 1A PSU? So in essence to modify it I would run 2 x 12V Fans with 1 12v PSU
@mrunboxer7657 I'm running 2x24v fans in parallel with a 1amp, 24v PSU. If you're swapping out for 12v fans using the same circuit you'll need a 12v PSU, or run them in series adapting the circuit slightly. I don't have the fan amperage details in front of me but you'll need to make sure the power supply exceeds the fan usage. Hope that helps!
Some fans will run even with PWM set to 0, mine switch off, but others are designed to keep some flow going so that sounds like normal behaviour so long as you are seeing a difference in fan speed as you turn them up.

I have some noctua industrial nf-f12 but once I connect everything it doesn't matter what I do in simhub they are always working and I can't regulate them
I'm sorry to hear that, Ivan. The only thing I can advise is to double-check the wiring and ensure the correct sketch has been installed. There are two that seem quite similar, but one sketch definitely doesn't give you control over the fans.

Glad you've enjoyed the tutorials! 😀 It should be perfectly possible to build both on the same Arduino, though the circuit will be more complex as a result. Make sure to keep a common ground across whatever power supplies you use though. For your example I'd use 12v fans to simplify the circuit as the pedal motors are also 12v, you'll just have to ensure you have sufficient amperage spare.
Good video to build the wind Sim. Only one question. Why my fan turns back on after I turn it the PC. It works fine in the game, testing with SimHub. But it turns on after I turn of the PC
That seems to be a side effect of the SimHub sketch. The fans run full blast until SimHub is loaded and then it is controlled by the software, the same happens when the software is closed. The code for the sketch could possibly be modified to switch off the fans for shutdown or start-up events but I haven't looked into it to be honest.

Interesting - sorry for taking so long to reply. Did you solve your issue? It sounds like the fans aren't responding to the pwm single fully, it'll be interesting to hear what fans you were using.
Hi, so I tried to build these and realized after several 24v 1amp power supplies, that the circuit diagram shows the fan supplied power in parallel instead of series. Is this right? I actually could not get it to work this way, the fans just started smelling light burnt electronics, before i switched it over to a 12v power supply.
@@JNYDZ when wired in series the supply voltage is the sum of the components so you should be okay that way around using 12v fans. You probably want to check you haven't already damaged them though if you've run 12v against a 24v supply before wiring it up though.
I'll have to double-check for you when I'm back in the studio, but from what I remember SimHub has limited support for this on the Uno. You'll also need to make sure your power supply has the grunt for the three fans.
I got the hardware side of things all hooked up, but I'm having a slight issue that I believe is on the software end, if you don't mind helping me out, please? The green light was solid and lit on the Arduino, their was a yellow light flashing, and I went to do the SimHub setup, and the fans kind of did their off and on testing as you said they would and I've seen in other UA-cam videos, but after doing everything, the fans came on, and they CAME ON! FULL BLAST, NO STOPPING! They work, as it got pretty chilly, pretty quickly, lol. After watching your video and some other UA-cam videos again, it looks like my error was that I forgot to click the "relay" option off for both fans. I went back and changed those two settings so that they're "off" now, loaded it to the Arduino, but, yeah, fans are still blaring... :/ I went into the settings of SimHub in the Shake It area and turned off the "idle" fan settings, but that didn't do anything. And I had not even gotten in game yet. What am I missing here? Is there a way to uninstall the Arduino and start over? I need some help, please. But it's good to know that I'm close. 🙂👍 Oh, and I would have thought the fans would blow out the one side away from the wires. Just found that funny, but it is correct per the arrow for "airflow" on there. Thank you! 🙂👍

I'm wondering if it my knockoff Arduino is just not being recognized because I have done everything else others have tried to guide me with for this wind sim. So, I ordered an "official" Arduino UNO board, and it just got here yesterday. I haven't had time to test it yet, but when I do, I'll report back in with the results. 🙂👍 Thanks!
@@JoMaMaz it might be something as silly as a driver being needed to recognise the chip in your off brand arduino. Had to install a few from sites that have no English language options before!

Once wired up, have a play with the idle wind settings in the wind sim module, that when enabled will allow you to test the fans statically. You could also record a racing session in SimHub and play that back to get a feel for how well the fans are working.
Hi, I followed your instructions but the fan is in reverse. Also if the usb is unplugged, the fan runs at max speed nonstop when plugged in to the wall. Please help.
Firstly, thanks for watching my video and for trying out the project. The full speed thing seems to be an issue with the Sim Hub sketch, I've seen the same thing happen on first boot but once Sim Hub loads it goes down to the idle speeds you set. It also doesn't seem to happen all the time. If you have the air flow pointing at you on the fan markers and it is reversed that sounds like you have the fan wired up backwards. Is that a possibility?
@@Teqqlesdoessimracing thanks for the response, actually the fan is moving in the right direction, looks like backwards however, it’s the one from Amazon, pwm wathai that goes up to 5700 rpm and blows like 230cfm. Still having an issue where if you unplug the usb from the arduino, the fan will run at max speed non stop. So I’m not sure if it’s a normal thing. But once plugged to the usb with sim hub it’s fine. Can you check if your fans do the same? I’d appreciate it.

Just thinking of matching the power supply, I notice yours is a 24v 1amp 24watt . If using a 12volt supply the 1amp is only supplying 12watts, would it be advisable to go for the 2amp 12v supply as it runs at 24watts?

Simon Jones I've not checked the new fan 12v specs, but if you're wiring them in parallel and want a bit of headroom, then 2amp, 12v would be best. 24v in parallel will probably burn out the fans.
I'm having terrible trouble trying to get simhub to work with sim tools v3. Simtools has support for wind through game dash but I can't find a sketch to support your method of build , only using motor movers and ad fruit. I'm just wondering if you might know of a sketch or a workaround to support your method of build?
Thank you! I had arduinos laying around for a while now. Used one for led tach now I'll use one for this now. Most I see use the motor board. This method is even cheaper and more simple...IMO this is best option unless maybe using more powerful fans. I'll build it this weekend!
@@Teqqlesdoessimracing SO i wired 2 PWN fans to pins 9 and 10 (same as profile I loaded setup) wired 12V supply to fans and hooked ground to Board as well via GND pin. Flashed arduino...fans speed up and changed as flashing occured...Load up my game but fans just spin at low RPM. No change in speed. Any idea what I couldve done wrong? Fans are 4 pin PWN just like you used in video. 120mm Be Quiet fans.
@CerealKillr-SimRacing did you configure the Wind Simulator plugin in SimHub with the fans? Another issue I hit was that there are two sketches that look very similar, but one will give you some strange results. It'll be worth double-checking that. If you're still having issues, screen grab your settings, and I'll take a look.

Everyone else using sheild boards and motor drivers - total waste of time - this is better, simpler and cheaper.
I did use a motor shield on another project but more often than not they aren't powerful enough or necessary for the job 😄
I just built one using the Monster Moto. I’m running two 6 amp 270 cfm boat blowers. I love it but wouldn’t recommend using it without headphones on.
Can you run the shake it pwm setting with a motor shield instead of directly to uno?

Interesting, you might need to tune the rim values a little. With the fans I used, they will switch off completely when the car is in the garage.

Thanks. I have my settrings like yours PWM Output min set to 0, but the fan still runs slow/ not 100% off.. Is that normal? Thanks

@victorqn looking at the pure wings fans it looks like when the PWM signal is between 0-25% they keep a static speed of 500 RPM.

Did you use 24v fans? You shouldn't have issues with a parallel circuit if the fans are rated at the same voltage as the PSU.

Yea, Noctua changed the fan after I made this video. If you go for the 12v fans, make sure you also go for a 12v supply 👍

Hi great video/tutorial just wondered if you used a motor shield board for the Arduino?.
Nope, no need for this one as only the PWM fan header is connected to the Arduino, the power is delivered straight from the 24v power supply 🙂

Yep, in theory you can drive 3 PWM fans from the Nano using this approach.
Thank you! I had arduinos laying around for a while now. Used one for led tach now I'll use one for this now. Most I see use the motor board. This method is even cheaper and more simple...IMO this is best option unless maybe using more powerful fans. I'll build it this weekend!

@@Teqqlesdoessimracing SO i wired 2 PWN fans to pins 9 and 10 (same as profile I loaded setup) wired 12V supply to fans and hooked ground to Board as well via GND pin. Flashed arduino...fans speed up and changed as flashing occured...Load up my game but fans just spin at low RPM. No change in speed. Any idea what I couldve done wrong? Fans are 4 pin PWN just like you used in video. 120mm Be Quiet fans.
@CerealKillr-SimRacing did you configure the Wind Simulator plugin in SimHub with the fans? Another issue I hit was that there are two sketches that look very similar, but one will give you some strange results. It'll be worth double-checking that. If you're still having issues, screen grab your settings, and I'll take a look.
@@Teqqlesdoessimracing I put it away few hours. Just hooked it back up and long as I load sim hub...then power up arduino it's now working! So happy! Thanks for your time and help bud! ...Now to go do some racing!

As all the power is provided by the PSU you should be able to use a nano 👍

Actually this circuit doesn't use the fan controller at all so you have much more freedom in your choice 🙂
