A little detail i love in the fiest film is u can see that the pilots do the best not to destroy the city if they can help it, when gypsy was look for the secons flying kaiju the pilots step over the bridge, in the sevond film they bust through building and pull building into the monster carelessly.
At the same time, gypsy was piloted by adults, Raleigh himself having experience with construction and knowing how hard it is to make these buildings. It was mostly piloted by children and a man child in the film that shall not be named. Of course they would destroy buildings needlessly.
Another thing is the pilot suits. Before each one was unique and gave a unique feel that matches the jaeger. In uprising they all have the same armour which looks like some cheap foam on a crappy black undershirt and pants
Nah, putting kids into giant robots is the staple of the Genre. From Gundam to Neon Genesis Evangelion. Pacific Rim is heavily inspired by NGE anyways so it's not exactly goofy and I can see stories that work here. I dunno...new generation of Jaeger pilots specifically engineered and raised to be drift compatible for example.
@@PositiveBlackSoulthat sounds like a good idea but personally imo having military grade pilots would be much better, because between film 1 and 2 they had YEARS to train basically a small army of drift compatible pilots but they resorted to training kids? This movie is so had that when pacific rim came to netflix this month I've rewatched it 20 times already, and it literally never gets old with how good it is. I'm trying to rewatch it as many times as I can before it leaves this month, that's how good the first movie is.
Props to this guy for filming, hiring a cast, animating for all the clips shown in this video just to make a video on how franchises can be ruined by a bad sequal
The best thing about the pacific rim fandom is that every day of their life, they wake up, have a great day, and never even think about this being something that was in theaters for the entire it was out.
I remember my former best friend being really into Pacific Rim. He was so excited for this movie, when he finished watching it, he said it was "pretty good", but wouldn't talk about it passed that. I thought this was strange since he wouldn't stop talking about the first one, but stopped altogether with after this movie. Even going so far as to talk me out of watching it, which I did anyway. To be clear, this dude also creamed himself when Anthem came out and convinced me to buy it. Don't listen to cumsumers, they just like a concept, buy in, then never admit when something is bad or just clearly a scam. Thank you for coming to my TeD Talk.
One thing that stuck out to me from this vid was something about Amara's big sin of telling us all about how cool the Jaegers are instead of showing, something that, when you think about it, makes it even more vapid. From a story perspective, every Jaeger she gushes over doesn't earn it. ALL were built well after the last Jaegers to actually fight a Kaiju exploded at the bottom of the ocean several years previously. So what the hell have any of them been doing to earn such a glowing reputation, and why the hell aren't we watching that movie? If it wasn't some Jaeger vs. Jaeger event in the past that earned their stripes in the characters' minds, then the only answer is it's just a case of her liking them because she thinks they look cool - which is hard to believe when all look so generic. What would I have done for a sequel? How about exploring the ramifications of Jaegers existing in a post Kaiju world? With no more unifying enemy to fight, would it be a sort of cold-war with giant robots instead of nukes? What if Obsidian Fury's purpose was to tip the balance and spark off the final mecha thunderdome instead of... whatever the F uprising was doing. Uprising was way too bright and filled with Power Rangers flips (hell, the Power Rangers film actually did a better Jaeger than Uprising). Pacific Rim isn't Marvel - it's dark and gritty with a side of cheese.
In defense of Amara building a Jaeger (specifically that part) she didn't design it, nor did she make up the science. In the prequel comic that was released up until Uprising did, it was going over Amara and her story. Long story short, orphan girl adopted by genius scientist that made an AI dog and was building a Jaeger to fight off the mob. Scientist, dog, and third lady all die, leaving Amara alone. She takes the plans the scientist left and rebuilt the Jaeger after it was destroyed out of SCRAP. A normal Jaeger is made out of things like armored steel or other such durable metals, aside from some more high tech parts, Scrapper is just...a bunch of scrap strapped together. I believe the comic also said that she was taught by the Scientist a bit, hence why she was able to read it, but it's been so long I can't remember. Obviously that doesn't help because the MOVIE doesn't say that, or give much more of her story other than an offhanded remark, but hey, most people aren't aware of the comic so I figured I'd bring it up.
The film needing a whole prequel comic to Justify a character existence is a proof that they didn't do a good job when creating her. And I don't think that her not designing the mech makes building one any less impressive (or absurd from the POV of what is known from the first movie)
@@KaoKacique I feel like a lot of the absurdness goes away, when one realizes that the in setting Jeager tech would be far more mature. Think of it like how a tech used to be only something rich people can have, but now even poor people can own it. For example computers, plane flights ect. Basically it would be impossible to do what she did in the first movie where the tech is new and cutting edge, but in the same way your smartwatch has more processing powers than what it took to get people to the moon, now Junkyard e waste is more cutting edge than first gen Jeagers. And frankly if was not a very good jeager. Second the person is a main character and main characters tend to be extraordinary, if they were normal, they would not be the main character instead of someone else. Third, movie has limited time to show stuff, showing the build up in the comics may take away from the robot punching action.
The budget of this video is nuts. I have to applaud the effort you put just to show us CGI clips of a movie that doesnt exists no wonder they didnt make the movie. I cant comprehend the budget making those shots
I'll be honest, I laughed when Mako died. Not because I hate her (I love her character), but because she dies in such a funny way. The jaeger MISSES HER by a few centimetres and she dies.

great concept of what a sequel to pacific rim but doing everything wrong would look like, its a shame still we didn't get a sequel, it would have so much potential to become a franchise
Alright. I realized the film was inferior to the original, but I didn't really think it was *THAT* terrible. Might change my view when I finish typing this: Jake: I mean you have a few points. Wasn't initially fond of the whole "unmentioned son" angle myself. But you certainly get a feel for who he is early on: the son of a war hero that failed to live up to his father's expectations so just gave up and resorted to living a reckless life of stealing and smuggling. It's all there right in the opening. Not the greatest character but there is depth and eventual growth there. Amara: Agreed. Her building an entire Jaeger on her own was quite perplexing. But I suppose it ultimately kind of makes sense she would end up as she did: watching her family die in front of her, forcing her to learn how to be independent and become increasingly hard shelled and distrusting, having experienced such a traumatic event. But again, learning to build and pilot Jaegers solo was a huge stretch. The Jaegers: Also agreed. They were once amazing creations that took immense amounts of money and materials to build from multiple nations that now literally come from factories. They did go overboard on the drones, especially. But why is it so wrong for Amara to fangirl over them? Wouldn't you? Especially upon the realization these creations killed the things responsible for her family's death. I mean a bit silly yeah but not necessarily a sin. Jaeger launch: the whole point of that opening scene in the first movie was to show the audience how much went into launching them and the whole entire suiting up process and everything. They didn't need to do it for every single Jaeger launch after that. "Fixing them all in 2 hours": Yeah. Completely valid. It made no sense. Just need a MONTAGE! LOL Jaeger vs. Jaeger: Aye. Definitely the high point. "REALISTIC weight and feel" of Jaegers: The early gen Jaegers were initially slow and clunky but gradually became more refined and mobile. Like Striker Eureka. They had a further 10 years to perfect them after that. But I suppose they still overdid it a bit. Jumping off buildings and what not. Hell. Even I took issue with such things in GODZILLA VS KONG like when Kong held a tiny pole on top of a building to hang on. Like WTF? LOL How exactly did we see how flawed Raleigh and Yancy were? Because they were cocky? They got about as much backstory Jake did in Uprising. They dynamic I see between Amara and Jake is that Amara shows you can come from nothing and become greater than someone like Jake who is the son of a hero/legend. And despite how perfect Amara pretty much is, even she learns a thing or two from Jake. Two imperfects completing each other. And the whole "9 minute" thing unfortunately does add up. AND STILL TOO MANY DRONES! Oh well. I think for me it was "moronic optimism" I'll admit. Since we were so close to not even getting this film and I was hopeful for a sequel, I just tried to like it in spite of its several shortcomings. Just wanted the series to continue so I thought maybe I could see some good in it. I don't know why but I still find it enjoyable but certainly realize it fell well short of most peoples' expectations and the series is over.
So glad to see this pop up on my feed. This was an excellent breakdown of great point with the kind of sarcasm that I love. (Bonus points for Mr. Bean.) I'm looking forward to watching your channel grow.
we all saw the red flag that when a sequel come out and the director from the first movie it not making the movie you know it a big red flag like soon I heard that guillermo del toro was director I immediate knew the movie going suck especially the lead role Charlie Hunnam wasn't coming back, that when I knew this shit going suck and if you watch any of the trailer, you can tell it was bad by most of the trailer they was used toys, mean they was try used this movie to sell toys and they also killed Mako in the dumb way do, this movie shouldn't be made
Tbh the fights that I loved more than the first movie are the obsidian fury fights. They showed weight and size while still showing how much jaeger tech has improved. Especially when gipsy threw that helipad at fury. The story was mid but the fights and effects were way better than I expected.
5:00 wanna know something? a lovely fanfic I read, had this happen. it was just after the breach. turned out, cherno alpha's pilots lived (they changed the story a little). and as such, they wanted cherno repaired. so. mako pulled in some favours, along with Chow to rebuilt cherno.
The jaegers in uprising should have been treated like an insurance policy in case the kaiju somehow returnedHumanity continued development of jaeger tech, made bigger and more badass mechs. Instead of the toys they became. Sure "illegal" and rogue jeagers could have been a thing and an issue that was a distraction and then boom, big kaiju pops up a d now the jaeger corps is scrambling to get to work
Something about the Jaegers in this movie got me comparing them to the power rangers megazord. I still wonder how the megazord works, especially certain variations where they are controlling it with wheels or something like that. The 2017 movie didn't get me questioning it because they each controlled a certain part and abilities it had, and they even had trouble when they tried to get it to walk
When I was watching this movie, every time I knew someone was going to talk, my brain automatically disabled my ability to hear and see. I just remember a few fights.
The point that you brought up about water is actually one of the reasons that using scale models can be so difficult for filmmakers when the film involves any amount of water (IE titanic) Even with things at 1/4th of their regular size it's not difficult to pick up on how much larger water droplets wind up looking.
The thing that got me is the Yaeger with the machine gun on the track. The barrels are absolutely massive, probably even bigger than battleship main guns. Those things firing should blow out every window in the city, and yet... It sounds like a machine gun out of call of duty with no impact at all.
I keep seeing that Jaeger on the thumbnail show up every now and then when people talk about Pacific Rim, is it just a really well known fan design or am I missing something
Having the remaining jaegers at the Shatterdome battling against the drones to reach the *factory* where said dtones were being controlled would have been such an incredible alternative plot to the Morbius-level absolute-cinema movie we got. You could even have scenes where the hybrids are fighting outside the building with the jaegers, while a separate team of our good guys are in the building as hmans, trying to stay away from the jaegers as their battle causes collateral damage in the building... showing the scale of everything while also making for an ever-changing and complex challenge/struggle for the characters. It would also have validated the buildup to the drones, and presented a new threat that wasn't just a cheap copy of the final battle in Pacific Rim. Instead focusing the last part of the movie on the conflict against the drones. FURTHERMORE, having the perpetrator to the "drone rebellion" remaining unknown until the human team entered the factory would have made Charlie Day's reveal as the villain so, so, so much more rewarding and shocking. But no, the directors went with knock-off power rangers, jetpacks and superman instead.

@@jw_gojifan19 Pacific Rim Uprising? Never heard of it, is it like a fan film or something?
In uprising they all have the same armour which looks like some cheap foam on a crappy black undershirt and pants
casting a KIDS control these bigass heavy robots is just as goofy as it can get.
Agreed. I also wish they made a "Pacific Rim: Origins" movie of how it all started & the beginning of the jaeger program.
Personally my favorite part of any zombie movie/show is in the beginning where you see normal life slowly collapse. I think witnessing that in the Pacific Rim universe would truly be something special...

The fact how they took a cool concept like living in ground zero of a kaiju attack and being a scrapper to survive in the destroyed warzone, and then did NOTHING with it at all is mind boggling

And comparing the size these jaegers easily eclipse even 115m tall mobile armors in gundam by almost double or triple

Uprising? Never head of it.
Wow I didn't even know this entire backstory existed. Wonder if they excluded it cause of budget/time constraints
@@FilmJunk1e who's to say really, the fact that they spent money on a prequel comic but didn't bother bringing it up is strange to say the least.
I mean I can just blame it on tech getting better with time. Generally things become cheaper with time.

Cant believe you spent so much money to fabricate a movie that never existed
Alright. I realized the film was inferior to the original, but I didn't really think it was *THAT* terrible. Might change my view when I finish typing this:
Jake: I mean you have a few points.
LOL
Jaeger vs.
Like WTF? LOL
How exactly did we see how flawed Raleigh and Yancy were?
I don't know what you are talking about, there never was a sequel...
So glad to see this pop up on my feed. This was an excellent breakdown of great point with the kind of sarcasm that I love. (Bonus points for Mr. Bean.) I'm looking forward to watching your channel grow.
we all saw the red flag that when a sequel come out and the director from the first movie it not making the movie you know it a big red flag like soon I heard that guillermo del toro was director I immediate knew the movie going suck especially the lead role Charlie Hunnam wasn't coming back, that when I knew this shit going suck and if you watch any of the trailer, you can tell it was bad by most of the trailer they was used toys, mean they was try used this movie to sell toys and they also killed Mako in the dumb way do, this movie shouldn't be made
I love how the most replayed parts of the video are the pacific rim 1 clips

Sure "illegal" and rogue jeagers could have been a thing and an issue that was a distraction and then boom, big kaiju pops up a d now the jaeger corps is scrambling to get to work
Pan Pacific defense corp (ppdc), not jaeger Corp
The most unrealistic part is the fact that the code for the small yager worked first try
Pacific rim uprising: Let's ignore the heavy weight and adult characters and fight and plot from Pacifim Rim 1
Now this is a good analysis, no hating, no harsh opinion, just correcting the situation.
I mean there's definitely a lot of hatin but it's justified
unlike pacific rim this channel has managed to create proper sequel for his video
Wow. This movie sounds terrible, I'm glad it doesn't exist
Yeah the only one exists is the anime
Hands to them for making a movie that makes me appreciate the original even more

Seriously, I enjoyed your videos about Pacific Rim so much. Lots of Love, Lots of Laughs
The sarcasm in this video is unmatched. I spent half the video wondering if you were serious or not.🙌🙌
When I was watching this movie, every time I knew someone was going to talk, my brain automatically disabled my ability to hear and see.
6:20 I loved this about the movie, the Jaegers always felt like a collective effort with everyone contributing to every step they took.
I like how the video about Pacific Rim: Uprising was still more about Pacific Rim
