"Surely not something even more pretentious and ridiculous than those?" Oof! That is such a great takedown of that utterly ridiculous genre name. Amazing video, fantastic sounds. Keep up the excellent work.
So awesome to hear the respect to Autechre. Those two gentlemen literally shaped my love for this thing 25 years later I'm still fanatical about. And thanks for this clever patch. The perspectives in your vids spark so many fun and interesting patches. The universe of modular is truly infinite...so glad I've got me a spaceahip.
That's an excellent combo. One great use: use channels 2 or 3 to SubH's VCO1 input to make it play in any scale/pitch! So much more to be explored there. I have a very extensive system, but now you've got me wanting to figure out everything I can do with just those two modules
@@midilyfestyle What do you mean by using channels 2 and 3? Just as offset or would I be running pitch from the sequences through them and attenuating? Also what I've been enjoying is using one of the function channels (almost always exponential) on the cutoff and VCA for a mock LPG replacing the Sub's envelopes. With that I run the CV from the sequence into the decay to make it sound more organic. Mind you that leaves me with 3 more channels to play with! The slew functionality has also made the 4 note sequences much more interesting, especially if I run a slow LFO into the rise or decay. Honestly a match made in heaven, I couldn't be happier (unless I had a QPAS, Mimeophon, Batumi and VCAs as well lol)
@@TayTayMakesBeats yeah, just send the out from 2 or 3 patched to VCO1in and adjust the channel attenuverter on Maths with nothing else patched. Now you have a master pitch control for your subharmonicon!
Whenever I am feeling blue I always turn to a few tracks from my favorite genre, Iatrogenic Demon Miasma. Never fails to boost my spirits. Thank you for reading my comment.
The strangest thing just happened,, I finished up this awesome video and looked down to see the contents of my wallet strewn across the table in front of me, and realized I was halfway through a mimeophon order form
Early intelligent dance music sounds kind of funny, like the apes in 2001 discovering the monolith and then discovering you can make beats with a bone. This video makes me feel like one of those apes having an epiphany.
You read Maths basic description and you wouldn’t guess you could do stuff like this. I remember in one of you 0-Coast videos you mentioned that we should see sound sources everywhere when talking about the contour and slope of the synth. This is just philosophy put in practice once again. Love your videos and I’ll be getting a Maths as my second module.
Heh...a little tilt to Autechre at 8:55? :) Playing in the dark. and thank you....for not uttering....."IT" :) I followed your instruction...and it was super fun. degraded into crap after a bit. no idea why. but it was sounding so sweet. its tuff having no idea what makes it werk and what doesn't. must be nice being smart...knowing what you're doing. used an Octatrack for sequencer, and used its RND LFOs to mix some stuff up. can't change the temp like you did with the Wogglebug and your sequencer tho. GREAT vid!
I was an avid Future Music reader at the time and noted that IDM was borne as a distinction by those artists who didn't want to get lumped in with formulaic takes in the 'Hip-hop/Dance' section at HMV. Unfortunately, like 'alternative rock', it stuck.
My Maths is ordered and being shipped as soon as stock is replenished. It’s gonna be my eurorack module...super stoked and wishing all sweet jams in the New Year 🤘🏾🌟🤙🏽
Maths was my first module and for a while I had nothing but Maths, Optomix and Moddemix as I needed to wait for an order. I could still spend hours exploring those three. I always have a laugh when people tell me Maths doesn't make sounds by itself.
@@KM-bl3vy yes that's true but for me it's about the sound and not about feeling smart because I managed to figure out some problem within eurorack. It's not an ingenuity contest, but rather getting the sounds out of your head into the real world in an efficient way.
Sure, in this configuration it’s mostly a $2500 DFAM. But you could never turn a DFAM into a T&MMM. This video saved me money because now I can skip buying a third DFAM. ;-)
so what. a dfam is also only capable of a fraction of what you can do with a make noise system, and only a fraction as fun. if you just need some drums and you don't have an interest in modular synthesis and sound exploring, sure a dfam, or way better, a Rytm or a tempest is probably what you want. but that wasn't the point of the video at all. I doubt any one would ever get this just to make drum sounds.
Some proper warehouse rave feeling in this one hahaha. I often use this drum making technic with my Serge panel, using the DUSG. Lovely video as always ;-)
Great vid. Love some of that mid 90s Inter Dimensional Mongoose music.
Ah, THAT'S the phrase I was looking for! :P thanks Ned

Hi Walker. Good to have you back! (Hear this in your head with the voice of Hainbach)
"We'll never actually know what the future sounds like." Devo... it sounds like Devo.
Touché! 😅
We're all DEVO
Just tried that, it works perfectly ! It's lovely how you can come up with new Maths ideas several years after its release
Just got Maths as my first module to pair with my Subharmonicon. It's mind boggling how much room for creativity it creates.
Glad you are having fun!

Sees IDM: thinks... "Industrial Dance Music" - Me Googles IDM: "OHhhhhh my god that is absurd"

Thank you for your comment! The more backronyms the merrier :D
Love the old IDM style beats, never get old. Nice tips, very inspiring
Thanks for watching!!
These videos are incredibly inspiring to me. Really really like what you guys do. Cheers!
Thanks for watching!
Very cool! This is super-clever and exactly the kind of ingenuity that drives my interest in modular synths.
Glad to hear that! Happy patching!!

Haha, have fun!
I knew the TMSMM would end up saving me money. Was just looking for some primitive drum modules and found this. Amazing!
Brilliant in any time dimension!
Just bought a Tape & Microsound Machine unit today. Super stoked to experiment with it’s possibilities.
Have fun!!

Thanks for watching! Glad you are enjoying the videos :)
Great video, definitely gave me some ideas to play with. I love the imposed limitations leading you towards something unique.
Start as you mean to go on. Great ideas

Love that sweet saturation sound

Listen to Frank Carter & the rattlesnakes & the UK band "the Slaves" your welcom!!!
amazing stuff!
Glad you liked it!!
So what you are saying is Maths is an Intelligent Dance Module? Got it.

bet you wished for more Maths channels!
excellent !
Thanks for watching!
Awesome!
Thank you Violet :D
Looks at Maths...looks at Machinedrum....looks at Maths.
Awesome video, just subbed!
Thanks for watching!!
I need to spend more time learning my modules….
Sweet!
Thank you!
Where is your music? Love this!
thanks for asking! check out composedecompose dot bandcamp dot com
I believe it is pronounced "Autechre" :-p j/k! Great episode.. I wish I could buy another black and gold maths for my shared system wink wink!
Thanks for watching!
The French student in me has always pronounced it “oh-tech-ruh” but everyone I know pronounces it like Walker here.
wow !
I don't think you want to mention IDM and Aphex Twin together. Heads will explode.
awesome
Thanks!
Instantly tried this, swapping the QPAS with a Korgasmatron and... fucking hell! 😁😁😁
Was 8:53 autechre live shows reference? :D
Must have been :P
Lit

Thanks for watching!
We're into JK Flesh territory here 😎
DFAM from another mother?
Why is it so hard to find a black Maths?
only sold in systems
Influencer Dance Music
I think DFAM could do these style of drum sounds at a fraction of the cost of a Make Noise System.
That’s not really the point. This is demonstrating the beauty of modular and making ideas come to life through exploration and problem solving.
