As a newcomer to the Eurorack field, your videos are not only very helpful but also extremely inspiring. Your calm manner of immediately getting something musical out of the modules is unparalleled. Thank you very much!

Thanks for the very kind words! I’m glad to hear my videos are helpful to newcomers to eurorack!

MATHS reminds me of the tools a painter uses to mix their paints and apply the paint to the canvas. Its simple tools - 2 functions, 2 mix buses, plus 2 offset or +/- attenuate channels make it ideal to make/mix any voltage and scale it and apply it anywhere. It’s easy to use and fun to play. I lurve it.

That’s a great analogy. I often think of it as a tool belt. Full of simple tools that are useful for so many applications.

Hi. Maths was one of the first modules I bought but I’ve never felt I explored it enough. Some great ideas in the video. It’s inspired me to experiment more with it so thank you very much.

I don’t have maths but I do have Befaco Rampage which seems to be similar in many ways. These patch ideas have given me some new things to try. Thanks 🙏🏻

Also so-called nonmusical part sounded beautiful to me. Sometimes grotesque is a kind of beauty I guess. Hard to explain but I could listen to that all day but I can’t go to the supermarket without noise cancelling headphones due to the blaring tyranny of ancient dadrock and radioactive popsicle muzak that not even an elevator could love. I’d rather hear a chorus of glucose powered toddler tantrums and “cleanup on isle three” but everyone’s a DJ these days.

Love this! Maths has just made its way back into our performance case. It takes up a lot of real estate space but it is just so easy to use! Thanks for the additional inspiration 👍🏻

Excellent ideas for Maths. Its versatility is what makes it complex. Experimenting with a bit of logic can sound mental. Top sounds - especially the 'sidechain' segment.👏

Surprisingly, given its reputation, 'Maths' is actually quite a simple module - its 'just' a pair of slew limiters plus a mixer. The complexity comes from the enormous variety of ways that it can be used. Plus those slew limiters are really responsive with a huge range of slew time available, lots of CV control options and they can get really 'plucky' and have the most musical shape, much more than most envelopes. Held off from getting one for years until quite recently, no regrets in finally getting one.

Another way to sidechain with Maths is to route a copy of the kick envelope into a free channel of Maths, invert it and let it control the VCA of the sound to be sidechained.

Ah, Maths! It took me at least 4 years of modular experience to fully understand how useful, nay indispensable this module is. I finally settled on a similar module by a different maker. I have 2 notes on Maths:
    1. When they redesigned to module to its current V2, they should have made it 2 HP smaller. That would have been possible without sacrificing usability. The original Maths was designed more than 10 years ago when HP weren't much of a consideration and everyone was rocking huge modules. I think an 18 HP Maths would have put it into even more people's racks.
    2. The V1 Maths with the lightning bolts and the old-school knobs looked way, way cooler. I looked for about a year on the used market, never ever during that time did one come up for sale. Not too many V1s seem to exist.

When I first started building my setup, a friend recommended against Maths for the space reasons, instead suggesting the 4MS Dual EnvVCA. That seems to work well enough, but never particularly fun or inspiring. Now that I have a larger case on the way, I may take some of the extra room to explore Maths.

12:51 how are you making the chords with the keystep? Is that plugged into a different osc?

Does anyone has experience with the ADDAC506? Is it even in the same category as Maths? I’m having a hard time deciding which is best for those 20hp (considering I mostly play drone and experimental dark ambient)

VCA into VCF rather than the other way around?

    • @timchippingtonderrick291
      @timchippingtonderrick291 26 днів тому

Definitely try it that way round. It will change how the filter responds to the dynamics of the input, particularly if you get the filter close to self-resonance, getting close to pinging the filter with short pulses of sound. It's now the normal way I patch these.
