I use broken plastic hangers in a drill chuck for my line removal spool

You can also use a toilet paper roll to remove line instead of a screw driver. Just push it on the chuck and tape it

In Hawaii we do a lot of fishing from the rocky shoreline. The main line is tied to a lead weight ... then a 3 or 4 foot leader, the hook, and a plastic grub. You loose a lot of lead weights and terminal tackle getting stuck in the rocks. My father-in-law would take a golf ball and screw in two "Eye" screws. One side tied to the main fishing line (a swivel is highly recommended) and the leader to the other "eye" screw on the other side of the golf ball... The golf ball has lots of weight making it easy to cast... it sinks slower than a lead weight giving you more control... and instead of hanging up on the rocks, the golf ball tends to "bounce" off rocks so you don't get hung up as often. And "used" golfballs are pretty cheep. 🤣🤣🤣

Simpler way to remove line from the reel is drill a hole (like the scaler) in a plastic soda/water/drink bottle cap. Add a 1/4"x 2-3" bolt with thread to the head and a nut. Put bolt through cap from inside out,add and tighten nut. Chuck bolt in drill and screw on the bottle and remove the line. When reel is empty throw the bottle in the trash and the cap in a drawer to use another time.
If you use the proper knot attaching line to the spool you don't have that problem,it's called an arbor knot.
If you want to do it properly you'll also want the knot facing the right way and there's YT videos on that.
You also don't tie braid straight to a plain spool unless it's a braid compatible spool (they usually have a rubber or knurled center). It needs a backing if you do. The backing can be electrical tape or mono line. Electrical tape will get gooey and can slip when it gets hot and can/will leave a mess, mono also usually needs replaced when you replace your main line. I use liquid electrical tape on all my reels. Casting reels is easiest to apply, just "paint" the spool as you turn your handle, but do not get it on the sides of the spool, just the center axis. On spinners you take the spool off and then paint the center of the spool, but you also have to make sure you do not or you remove any and all you get on the top or bottom of the spool or the line is going to catch when reeling and casting. It never needs replaced or get gets gooey.
That ball may be fine when you didn't think it was a hit and set the point into the "log" and at that shallow depth. A sinker is going to work much much better and they're only going to work if your over top of it or at slight angle to it. It is not going to work the further it is way from you (horizontally) or off of 90* you are from it.

Hack #10- you forget to flip your bail to put line on reel 🤔

I did. I had to take the spool off and close the bail. Good catch. Thanks for watching.
