Finding the right rise is SO important--I can attest to this! When I was in my teens (early 2000s), low rise jeans were on trend (and practically the only style available in mass market stores), and that rise does me absolutely no favors, as I'm pear-shaped with a long torso and shorter legs. High rise jeans and pants (with a high enough rise, too--I prefer ~12" when I can find it) have been a god-send. They look so much more flattering, give me the proportions I like on myself, and--most importantly--make my pants WAY more comfortable since they sit properly on my body.
I am the opposite, short torso, so the current high rise popularity means 90 percent of the jeans out there make my torso look ridiculously short compared to my legs, and are also uncomfortable for me. If only rises were not a trend but readily available as sizes to fit all shapes..
I finally saw someone who looks good in low rise jeans! I assumed they were universally unflattering, but no! She has a straight, slim silhouette without a defined waist and the low rise looked great on her. But I think for a lot more people, high rise is more flattering.
Same here! I never knew the amazing-ness of high rise jeans until I was in my 30s when they came into fashion and I will NEVER go back to struggling with low or mid rises!!
Wow, I never would have guessed you were only 5’3”! I always thought you were much taller. Just goes to show the power of good styling. As someone who is 5’1” this gives me hope.
Shopping for jeans is the WORST. I always end up depressed at the end of the day 😂 but this information will help me feel better equipped to shop next time.

Wow! Until you pointed it out, I would never have noticed what a difference a shortened zipper can make. From this point forward, I’ll be checking to make sure the zipper goes down far enough. The zip that extends nearer the crotch looks much neater & more polished.
Arshi Kaur Levi’s do long zippers and high quality jeans. If you can, I recommend investing in a pair of Levi’s as they last a lot longer than jeans from most other shops.
Very informative. I learned a lot! I would like to add also that for those of us who want our jeans to have a more slimming effect, long jeans are a far better option than cropped. Cropped jeans cut the leg length visually and make short, plump people look shorter and plumper. :)

Back in 2004, I bought my 1st pair of 7 For All Mankind 👖with my 1st paycheck. I felt like million bucks. I continued wearing them and properly taking care of them. 17 years later, they still fit me like a glove and they look amazing.
Thank you so much for your beautiful videos. You're the best! At the risk of sounding redundant, your vids perfected a perfect formula- your wonderful voice, the lovely background music and visuals, and your undisputable knowledge. A feast for the eyes, ears and brain!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for unveiling the mystery of jeans and how they should fit. I saved this video and will refer back. This is the most complete explanation of this topic that I've ever seen.
I am so grateful to you and your channel. I bought jeans that actually fit me for the first time every (I'm almost 42) with the right rise, right silhouette and right colour. All because of this video. You have helped me SO MUCH in establishing my own style and minimalist capsule wardrobe which I'm working on this year. Thank you so much

Your videos are so informative; they're also beautifully and encouragingly presented...not too long, not too short but just right. And so many topics. Thank you!!!
For me that is also a problem. Like Audrey, I too am 5'3" but have longish hip measurement...about 1" or more. Doesn't seem like much except when you DON'T want that low rise look, and you've bought 'high rise' and they still cut into the crotch. The camel toe look is not a pretty sight! LOL!
Hi Audrey, First of all I would like to thank you for your wonderful videos that had a significant impact on my personal life. I am going through a weight loss process, and still have a long way to go to reach the healthy weight that suits me. Being overweight made me loose the interest for beautiful clothes, and in general for my image. When I go back to France for visiting my family, I always endure the embarrassing step of going to shops and never find nothing that fits me. That was untill I bumped into your channel, and by the energy, and your sincere passion for clothing, you made me love beautiful clothes again. That encouraged me to keep on loosing weight, and now I look forward to this spring for my next vacation in Paris and go remake all my wardrobe. Thanks again, and keep on making us dream. PS: I have been searching for the same type of blazer as the one you are wearing on minute 2:26 of this video. I don't have the right terminology to describe clothes. If I wanted to search on e-bay, how should I describe this type of blazer. Best regards.
The shortened zipper is a good tip and I never thought about the number of stitches as a sign of quality but makes sense. Off topic but your voice is lovely:)
Audrey, you are such a sweetheart! You are classy, beautiful and elegant. Pleasure to watch! Thank you for sharing yourself with the world. The world needs more people like you.
Hey Audrey, I love your fashion sense. Above all, you dress with such sophistication and class which my parents constantly emphasise to me. I live in a tropical location so it is quite humid here and I have little chance of rocking any jackets or jeans without being sweaty. It would be wonderful if you could do some videos on how to dress for hot, humid weather. Cheers xx
I've been trying to find the right pair of jeans for ages! bought so many and never worn them ! Now I have a n idea of what to buy thank you so much. Your videos are so helpful
Your videos are so cleverly produced! Mad skills 😉 your voice is pure silk and for asmr aficionados your channel hits the spot (too). Not surprised to hear you are a classically trained singer. Excellent video. I like all of the jeans in your wardrobe. I've recently purchased some higher rise jeans and find them not only more comfortable but more figure flattering (they hide my tummy).
@@lo4568 Honestly the jeans that I found that fit me the best are from Old Navy and since I'm 5'3 I buy the short ones not the regular ones and they hit just right.
Great tips! Quite a few tips are familiar to me and I have done since high school and college. I just don't remember you covered. My number one tip is to wash my jeans maybe 1 or 2 times a year and turn them inside out. I do this because of the fade factor and never dry as you suggested. MY ONLY EXCEPTION IS IF YOU BELIEVE THE DYE OF THE JEAN WILL TRANSFER TO OTHER CLOTHING AND FURNITURE IS PUT THE JEANS IN DRYER WITH A DAMP TOWEL ON THE DELICATE CYCLE FOR 15 -20 MINUTES.
I always soak my new jeans in a mixture of white vinegar and water( 1/4 vinegar to 3/4 water) to “ set” the color and have rarely had problems with fading. Most people know this trick for red colored or black colored items ( I only do it to cotton garments), but it works great for Jeans too.
😭I have a red t-shirt that now has that "vintage washed" look that you can find in stores but that I hate and it was a beautiful red at first, will do this from now on. How long do you leave it in for?
I wish I could’ve found this video years ago - it would have saved me a lot of time! I had to learn all these guidelines on my own. The part about cotton versus elastane/nylon is especially important!
Your videos are excellent, and have such good information. I also think that even if a person had no interest in clothing, they would still enjoy listening, because your manner and presentation are so very pleasant!
Very informative. I'm 56 I am 5'4 and I am a size 8. I do have a hard time finding jeans that fit well. Thank you Audrey I will use this information to find a great fitting pair of jeans.
Perfection. Fav video for the aesthetic and for practical information. I am plus sized and have problems buying jeans. I’ve realized because there is too much stretch in plus sized jeans for me they move around too much and don’t look good. So the cotton/elastane ratio was interesting. I will be taking my measurements and doing some research!!
I love the high rise, dark denim and a little stretch. High rise seems to be more difficult to find in my stores. This is all very helpful information. I do hang dry my jeans. I too am 5’3 petite, however much older.
Yes!!!! I love the videos but the voice is so soothing! I may or may not have dropped my phone on my face once or twice in bed dozing off to the voice and piano music. : )
My absolute favorite pair of jeans were 100% cotton and buttery soft. Now, I prefer a dark wash jean (trouser jean, if I can find them), and as you said, with no more than 2% rubber. I dislike polyester in jeans - I don't like the feel, and they make me so, so hot. However, I do like a cropped jean, especially in summer. But typically, I only wear jeans during cooler weather, because high humidity in summer is just too stifling. Thanks, Audrey
Such great information, thank you! I'm looking for a new pair of black and will take some measurements first--I have so many that tend to be too long in the rise and that drives me crazy. I think my age (70) and changing body shape has something to do with this.
Hi audrey I am learning a lot from you! Could you please make a video on how to find blazers/jackets that good and suit one's personal style? I am trying to build a more formal? wardrobe from my initial casual one and I am confused with jackets. It'll help a lot.
Hi, great video as always :). I would really appreciate if you could make a video describing how to choose blazers - especially when shopping online i.e. Ebay and similar. Thank you!
I'm extremely petite (4'9"), quite curvy, and have short legs. I look really good in a 98% cotton, light-mid wash denim with elongating wear patterns in the wash, and a very high rise -- overall, a very structured pair of jeans. Usually I cannot find pants that a) fit over my butt, b) are thin enough at the waist, c) have a short enough inseam, d) have a high enough rise, and e) are affordable enough to purchase. I've found that for me, I needed to learn how to sew. Now I generally buy my jeans from a thrift store in a wash that I like and a material that I like, and alter them myself to fit. I fix the rise by cutting apart the 4 pieces of material that hit the crotch area and then moving the 4 quadrant intersection down towards the leg hems a little bit. This also helps shorten the inseam, and sometimes I don't even need to hem them using this method. To thin out the waist, I use the existing seam at the back of the butt, pull off the belt loop directly above it on the waistband, rip the seam on the back to then sew back together at a more suitable size and put the belt loop back on. The belt loop covers the seam that I created on the waistband and the existing seam on the butt hides any additional seams. But if you're not this crafty, I cannot recommend enough heading to a thrift store to get a pair of jeans that you love the cut, wash, and material of, and forming a good connection with a local tailor/seamstress. Where I live, getting a pair of $5 thrift store jeans tailored (assuming you're not completely reconstructing them), is like $20 and that could be even less per item if you bring a few pieces at a time to be tailored and have a good relationship with your tailor.
Audrey, at Last! Someone that concurs with my thoughts about NOT putting jeans into a tumbler dryer :-) This pleases me so very much. I totally agree that it makes Jeans last longer. In fact, I rarely put any of my clothes into the dryer. I hang them on an overhead 'pulley system' airer to let them dry. Thanks for the helpful information and good advice X
Perfect timing. Looking to buy a psir of forever jeans. The low rise skinny styles of the last few years have left me cold--i love the jeans of the late 70s, early 80s. If Jacklyn Smith or Brook Shields wore it, I will. Of course, I'm only 5'2"! The blue silk blouse, blazer combo was perfect.
Such splendid advice: this will help me immensely when purchasing jeans, I'm sure. Would you say these tips also work for men jeans? Thank you so much for all the effort you put on helping everyone!
Good of you to help with this because denim requires more fresh water and energy to produce than virtually any other fabric. So, those who feel they must own numerous pairs are helping use up precious resources that we have no mass replacement methods for at present. We will not be able to drink our extra pairs of jeans that we rarely, if ever, wear. So this is important. Thanks again for this.
So helpful! For some reason I really struggle with jeans and this gives me a lot to think about. Really loved the outfits you put together too. The entire video was fantastic from the opening to the beautiful music at closing.

This video was absolute perfection from start to finish! I learned so much about how jeans should fit. Thank you for sharing your amazing knowledge!
Excellent learning video. Thank you! Plus new sources for denim. No more fast fashion crapy jeans.
I'm also petite also my torso is longer than my legs. I found out that skinny jeans doesn't work for me. A straight-ish cut is the way to go.
Thanks for another video, they're always so helpful x
You look so pretty today, your hair, your earrings....so pretty
One more in a series of informative and gorgeously shot videos. Thank you Audrey!
I love your styles and I am so inspired by your ideas. Keep doing your best. 😍 love to watch more of these videos. Thank you so much.
I always learn so much from your posts. You’re the best! Thanks so much!
I wish I would have known this information years ago! Thank you for this excellent video!
Thank you for this! I had no idea how to shop for jeans and watching this I feel confident in finding jeans
