I get more questions and bad new stories on Trade Dollars; more than any other coin type. So many fakes, copies and counterfeits that people get "bit" on these all the time. Education is the only answer to that so please share this video!
Good afternoon! Me scream Ali! I live in Kazakhstan. I have a 1878 coin, a trading dollar. I want to sell it and I will forgive you to rate it by photo, if possible! I will be very grateful to you. Watsapp 87472981247
Thanks Daniel, as always we appreciate your efforts on our behalf. I have a special love for Trade Dollars, especially American Trade Dollars, and that 1882 is a beauty! I have one in storage in the US, a 1876-CC. (The way things are going it may be the only reason I return to the US.) Stay strong Daniel. Till next time. All the best!
Hi Daniel, a few weeks ago I did buy a trade dollar and as soon as I got it in my hand I knew it was fake, although I'm pretty sure it's been made with 900 silver! Sometime in the future I'll get the metal tested, my scales broke just before I got it and it passed the magnet test but if it is silver I won't be too annoyed, I think I will stick to what I know but a real one would be lovely for my collection! I will see what the future brings there though. Your a good and helpful man Daniel, good video thanks.
@@CoinHELPu hello Can i ask if the trade dollar coins that i have is Genuine.I have 1847 trade dollar coin 420 grain 900 fine. Thank you i want sell it .

Every item "like my hound would say" should have a return policy ! And was the fake coin slabbed? You gentleman never cease to amaze me. Keep the knowledge coming please. Thank you Daniel
Thank you for the info. I recently bought one on eBay in the picture it looked good. Once received it is real but highly polished! I was so disappointed at first I wasn't even sure it was real. Pretty sure I lost $$ on this one...I starting watching your videos just a few months ago and really appreciate your videos and you sharing your knowledge.
I had my 1877 s trade dollar checked out earlier today, good news according to the coin shop it was real, bad news it was cleaned. I wasn't quite sure about it being cleaned, so I had him submit it to NGC to get graded. I received the coin as a gift so I had no issue paying the 35$ fee. 5 week count down here we go...
Know very little on trade Dollars. WOW! I definitely can see the differences.I think trade dollars are very beautiful 🎈Oh my thank you! All I can say is the true rare Trade Dollars remind me of the Morgan’s! I really like “em”.Yes! 🎈I just knew it that you would be the one ☝️ to help me out! You made my day with a great big (Smile} Awesome Video!🎈👍👍🎈♈️👍👍
I bought a 1877, yesterday at a coin shop, it was the 1st time there. Naturally I'm thinking it's good because it's from a coin shop. Now I'm concerned. I paid 135,dollars for it. Good information my man. 😃😎
Thank you sharing this very good info. People should get more educated about fakes. I'm one of the poor souls who was scammed with a bunch of fake $1 Liberty Seated & Morgan's. When somethin is too good to be true, something's fishy, but I was stupid (and greedy) enough to buy for €6,300 euro (around $7,000 USD, April 2023). The seller told me a cry story "Ooh it's so difficult selling these US coins here in Europe, so you can have them for a bargain". He offered me the coins for 60% of the PCGS value and I bought all five coins, and got scammed big time, all of them were counterfeit and I must say they were extremely well manufactured and much better looking than these you shared here with us
Good Day, Mr. Daniel, is there an 1881 trade dollar. I have 1 of them, the sound was good, it sounds like a bell and it passed to magnet test. looking forward to hearing from you. have a nice day
I have one I recently purchased that when you flip the coin from east to west, the eagle is upside down. I read somewhere where it should be upright. Is this accurate?
Ran into this video today, because my dad just bought 2 1885 Trade dollars in the flea market just know (4-15-23) he only paid $20 for both so no big deal. I do collect coins but im not well verse on the trade dollars, so I didnt know that the 85's only come in proofs and are worth in 7 figures, but anyways, so when he brought them home, It past the magnet test, but failed the weigh test, but the funny part is the coins have signs of sand casting, but has great luster and cartwheeling to it, and I did a ping test using the app pingcoin and of course it fails the morgan, and peace dollar test but funny enough it passes the 500 Lire Italian coin test, which 500 lire is 83.5% silver, but its the size of the trade dollar and it does have a mild silver pinging sound when shucked in hand together, so im wondering if they are silver forged coins using the 500 lire to make them knowing that they are worth alot of money if they were new.
PCGS will attribute most doubled dies and errors. The list is too long for a video. You can call either company and ask them, but there's fees with variety attribution and error attribution.
@@CoinHELPu is the list shorter for the ones they don't attribute? Cross referencing with Wexlers and variety vista? Example 1970 s over s rpm I've seen it in coneca top 100 but with little value, seems like it's not worth grading. How about a video on errors not worth grading? Just throwing ideas out there. Ty for your time.
@@jesusacosta2011 Thanks for the ideas. The list is longer since there's varieties they might not attribute, but calling PCGS is a must. I think they will put doubled die or RPM if they don't attribute with catalog number.
Hey Daniel, thoughts on the trade dollar with another reverse design on it. Just because one has not been found would not say that there is not a Mule coin out there , right? This is a question and not a statement, btw.
There's s few proposed coins but they're all Pattern coins and are proofs. I am never going to say a mule is possibly because there's too many fake fantasy pieces "muling" the known patterns, seated dollars and trade dollars. So no circulated or business strike mule exist.
Trade Dollars are one of my favorite series to collect. Theres great info to links on Trade Dollars on the Liberty Seated Collectors Group which everyone interested should read. Q David Bowers book on US silver dollars is in pdf format on PCGS website which has great info. Also the Gobrect Journal theres a series written by Mike Fazzari in issue #61 & #63, around 1994/95 which also has critical info which can be used to compare authentic trade dollar varieties to counterfit. Of course this info goes along with the obvious methods to weigh the coin, ring the coin, etc.... to come to a conclusion if its authentic. .great video Daniel thenks.
Did the "e pluribus unum" on trade dollars ever have roughly printed letters? The letters RBNM are not well defined at all? Is that ever possible? It is a perched eagle. I think is its name. Its the one holding with lady with the world
