  • Piriformis syndrome is a common cause of pain and other symptoms in the buttock and the lower back that can travel down the leg or even foot.
    Piriformis syndrome is usually due to the compression or contraction of the piriformis muscle on the sciatic nerve that travels passed the muscle. The most common risk factors are overused or injured from sports.
    These are great exercises to improve the strength of the muscles to aid the piriformis muscle and strengthen the piriformis muscle to reduce spasming and fatigue.

    I suffer from chronic pain since late 2018. It started off as a knee pain and it kept on escalating to the hip, glute and lower back. It's a shooting pain that gives BURNING sensation and puns and needles. It fluctuates with activities. But basically, pain gets worse with sitting for too long or driving, or standing for too long, lying on the right side for too long, walking for too long. I completely stopped exercising early 2020 because it was making it worse. Symptoms manifest more like nerve impingement issue, however, x-rays and scans can't detect anything wrong on my body, except for the lost of disc height of L5-S1, which I've been told that it's normal. I've done blood tests, they can't see anything wrong. I am living with the pain every second of my life. I've been to a Chiropractor, 2 physiotherapists, 2 biokineticist, orthpaedic, 2 neurosurgeons, Homeopath, and a Sports physician. They all have been trying, but nothing has helped so far. If I try their recommended exercises, the pain gets worse, it's like I'm burning, I can't ecen fall asleep. I've tried countless supplements and other meds. None has worked. At some point it affected me mentally.
    Do you have any opinion with this condition?

    • @JohnSmith-iu8cj
      @JohnSmith-iu8cj 2 роки тому +1

      Sounds like a muscle problem. Find a good physical therapist for sciatica that knows how to relax those muscles, it requires a lot of force and pain to loosen up the muscles that create the pain. Pain should get better for a few days until the muscles tighten up again. Strengthening the muscles in a center for rehabilitation should help to prevent them from being to tight longterm.

    • @JohnSmith-iu8cj
      @JohnSmith-iu8cj 2 роки тому +1

      Also have you tried diazepam to relax those muscles?

    • @JohnSmith-iu8cj
      @JohnSmith-iu8cj 2 роки тому +1

      I think you Have to focus on those exercises that don’t create more pain. Also take the whole body into consideration. Ab muscles can also be too weak. You can let a physician test the strength of opposing muscle groups and see if one side ie ab or back muscles are too weak, then focus those. Also to tight ab muscles can create bad posture, there is an exercise where you lean back on a special chair as far as you can, to strength the abs in extended position to lengthen them and improve posture. Maybe you don’t activate your abs enough habitually during movements or statically which creates too much pressure on the spine and Nerves.

    I have been moving away from classic sciatica exercises as I find them not helping me that much. I am overly flexible in some joints and think that could be a cause of my pain. Just had lumbago 2 weeks ago but sciatic pain for 6 months before that. However I have noticed my hip being very painful but over flexible so strengthening those muscles seems very logical to me. I will try this. Thank you!

    is it an indicator if the piriformis/sacrum/hip hurts intensely if you do a hip raise on the floor on your back, but with straight knees? with ankled knees it hurts in the hip too but if knees are straight it is a super pain in one side of the hip

    Quick questiin; couple of years ago, I suffered a Siatica pain, and I started doing the Copra stretch... Of late I complained of a minor lower back pain identified as; hip flexer issue with minimal pain, and asked to stop Copra stretch, which i do regularly with my regular tennis streches in this age of 59 now... Instead I was advised to do knee to chest instead... !! Isn't this a bit confusing;... specially for those who are not very well aware and relatively educated like myself...?

    I used to regularly practice kickboxing and was actually pretty good at it and I was very flexible, until my left leg started to pain while I tried to kick with it. It pained like hell when I lifted my left leg to do front kicks and surprisingly I could do side kicks and roundhouses with my left leg but could not do front kicks or lean down. It felt like some blood vessel in my left thigh tightening and preventing me from stretching any further. I could also feel the same pain in my left leg while I tried to do roundhouse/side kicks with my right leg while I could do front kicks with my right leg without any pain. This problem devastated me and I had to take a break. I believe from the symptoms mentioned in the video I am facing the same problem. Can anyone advise?

    is it common that this condition makes the hip pop/click all the time?

    • @Tomogara
      @Tomogara 3 роки тому

      I first noticed my right hip popping (INSANELY LOUD with a jumpscare pain at the same time as it pops) everytime I got up from my computer-chair after sitting several hours in the following position: left leg straight pushing into the ground/wall so i get pushed into the chair with my back, right leg in 90 degree resting with the ankle/foot on the left legs thigh, this allowed me to sit for very long periods of time and I believe this resting position overstretched my right hip without me noticing while the left hip was responsible for the stabilization on the floor/wall pushing my body up/into the chair. really comfy. but I never switched sides for some reason. when I would stand up and I step on the floor with my right leg it goess super loud POP with a stinger-like pain at the same time it popped, this pop got more silent over time until it finally turned into a chronic clicking that occurs thought out the day every few seconds whenever i externally rotate the hip it pops 8/10 the loud pop is gone and the pain in the hip is now always there when I step on my right leg while moving my upper body to the right so that most of the weight is on the right leg, the pain is also always there when I lay down on the floor on my back, it gets worse the longer I lay down there and stays longer when I get up again, the clicking itself does not cause a "jumpscare pain" anymore like it used to in the beggining when it did loud pops after i got up from
      my chair. now it just feels as if my while right hip(including sacrum) has this chronic stinger pain in it while it clicks all the time :( i managed to kinda deal with it but it keeps coming back if i dont do stretches every single day or twice a day, maybe i should try strengthening it instead but it hurts a lot if I try to do hip raises on the floor for example, tricky situation :/
      Edit: I dont sit in this position anymore since last 5 years but the problem remained
