I would love to hear your financial story. Also, I have two main goals for the year, each of which need to be broken down into actionable pieces. (1) Get back into regular use of my bullet journal. (2) Transition from "getting past cancer" to "living a healthy life."

Same! I’m a cancer survivor. I still take a daily chemo pill, but completed active treatment in 2021. So I’ve felt stuck mentally. I decided this year I start the real healing mentally and physically from cancer. I know I’ll never be who I was pre cancer, but I want to be the strongest and healthiest I can be.

Hi Michele, love the diverse topics on your channel! I started following you when it was all about makeup/beauty. At the time, that was my primary interest. The pandemic lockdown came and went, consequently most of us reprioritized what matters most. Lifestyle, health, diet, fitness and home are what I seek from the content creators and podcast hosts who I follow. Please do share your financial experience, we all have one. I am happy to say that the earlier lessons of money are the best lessons I have learned. Enjoy the day!!

It’s hard for some if you have 2 incomes. Etc. Also if you have a single income as well. So yeah this would be interesting I, for one , never have extra to spend (not luxury like most buying clothes and purses. Etc ) I can’t even get one 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. I have always had to shop smart and I don’t own credit card bills. Etc. Just home now. But I want the secret. Ha

@@louisesharpyHonestly I feel that this whole ‘flexing’ thing on social media is a lot of it. And a lot of what you see isn’t the truth and people are living well beyond their means. Or they don’t pay their bills and buy a purse instead. I really don’t post much of what I buy. It makes me uncomfortable. I buy things I like and will use and enjoy. I’m a true taurus! My only advice is not to go into credit card debt to buy a bag. I think afterpay is ok if you have the funds and are diligent and keep track of it. I think that’s where the trouble starts for a lot of people. 😊

Please feel free to share what you feel comfortable sharing on financial goals. I’ve also got hang ups on debt topic. Dad drilled into us that the only debt we should have is a mortgage, which should be paid for asap… All other items should be paid for when you have all the funds or else walk away rather than incur debt or pay interest. So that’s the way we’ve lived and it’s worked for us. Thing is - everyone has a different path, priorities and goals, which is fair enough 🙏🏼
Truly enjoy your life experience blogs in addition to make-up, fashion and jewellery updates.
Appreciate the gentle reminder regarding year planner and pen, which have been purchased as result of this blog x

Thank you, Michele!! Sitting down together and thinking through some goals made it much less overwhelming. A few months ago, I finally quit my soul-crushing corporate desk job that I had for many years. I stayed for as long as I did, just because it was stable. But in truth I felt like a prisoner dying a slow death, and it finally got to a point where I just couldn't take it anymore. I'm so glad I finally left, but now, I feel like an empty shell: The only skills I have, are for a job that I hate. I have no idea what to do now, all I know is that I will never do anything close to that job ever again. I don't even know how to figure out what I want, much less how to bring it to fruition. I never had any dreams or goals for the longest time because I was just trying to survive. I feel so lost, directionless, skill-less, overwhelmed, paralyzed...So needless to say, this video came at a time that I really needed it!

I have no debt only my mortgage which I’m trying to pay off asap. We just build an enclosed porch paid all cash $30000. We upgraded our kitchen cash 4 years ago 45000. We payed cash for our cars. It took us years to save for house remodeling. Now we need a new roof $25000 to 30000. And we are saving for that. Meanwhile, we are sending extra principal payments for our mortgage. It feels so good to pay cash for everything. My car is 9 yrs old and paid off 7 years ago. It runs great. We believe in saving and spending less. We also want to paint the outside of the house but we will pay cash. It’s the only way to go. People please sacrifice and save

I find the psychology/behavioral aspect of finances fascinating as I believe that sometimes we are all astute managers of our finances and sometimes not so much. I am so with you on the credit card debt…..I learned a valuable lesson from my past and have finally gotten things paid off. It took my line of credit….gone! When i buy anything beauty, home etc. i literally pay off the charge on my card…and get points to use for something fun! It freaks me out having any debt staring at me. My 20’s and 30’s were absolutely nuts with denial about what i owed. It takes good advice and not spending out of your reality. I can now in my 50’s feel good about how i spend.

I have always loved your content, but I feel like I love it even more now, when it’s not just about every new luxury make up release. I really enjoyed Mishmass this year and specifically, it was so cozy and personal and just like a nice relaxing catch up with a friend. Love your idea of goals vs resolutions. I have to say I am thinking about watching UA-cam, the way you are thinking about watching Masterclass - “Is that really what I want to spend my time on?” So I am becoming much more selective with what videos I watch. Some of my goals are - being deliberate about what I spend my time on, read more, cook at home more, take walks every day as much as possible, pay off some debt, work harder towards my career change. Would love to watch a video on your financial history if you feel like making one.

You gave me some great goals to think about, Michele. Finding new recipes would be a perfect one, but I must add "simple" to that!! 😊 I couldn't agree with you more about monthly payments. I was so very excited when I paid off my mortgage a few years ago. 🎉 I hate how streaming services are now charging monthly. I'd much rather do an annual subscription! Wow! Seeing you 5 times a week on UA-cam would be great! I don't do Instagram or Tik Tok. I do enjoy shorts on UA-cam as well as long form though. Good luck with your goals. At 74, don't laugh, one of my 2024 goals is to maybe start dating again (that word scares me silly). I'm not sure or even comfortable about looking on line. 🥴

Unsolicited suggestion….before planning the improvements for your backyard, make it a goal to use the area, as it is, for 2 weeks. What’s missing, what do you like/don’t like. Focus on your realist self and not your fantasy self. Living in Florida, with my first pool/deck, I spent thousands setting everything up without intentional thought. I use the area MAYBE once or twice per year. I also have to stress whenever tropical systems come towards our state and I have to pack everything into the pool shed. Next time, I’m getting a folding pool chair, personal umbrella and a pool noodle. That’s all I need!

I like your approach of using SMART - we use it in the work setting, so I don't know why I didn't think of it for personal goals haha! My goals for this year are to learn something new (I'm targeting a wine certification), build on something existing (last year I challenged myself to make a new recipe every week - this year, I'd like to make a new plant based recipe every week), and improve on my self care (last 2 years, it was all about skin care, this year, I'd like to learn more about hair/scalp care). Watching your video prompts me to revisit this next quarter to see what else I can add to my list so it's not an overwhelming one to start the year off with!

I’m not a planner. I don’t like to plan anything so I try not to. I’ve never been a goal setter either. At 52 let’s be realistic- I’m not about to start now 😂 I don’t want to do it just because it’s ’trendy’ on socials because that’s not going to help me. Anyway I thoroughly enjoyed the video in any case and am so happy that the Mish fan base will have more long form videos a week! As long as you don’t end up hating it because you’re too stressed - because 5 videos a week is a lot of work!
I’d love to hear about your early experience with finances. It’s relatable for most people. I now realize I was lucky that my parents owned and ran hotels because Dad was v business savvy and was always teaching me about money. I can hear him in my head saying don’t get a credit card! of course i did! At 20 I thought i knew it all. 🤷‍♀️😆

As a content creator with a Full time job, I wish I had more time to post more. But I have to be realistic and not go crazy. My goal is to post a YT video 2 to 3 a week. And a reel/short 2 to 3 a week as well. I also don't want to be buying everything and trying to post only New products. I Need to work on finding New ideas as well. I have a Blog which needs Love. So my goal is one post a month. Its what I can handle for now.
Thank you Michele for sharing your goals. It does really help ❤

Great video Michele! I'm in total support of your ranging beyond simply makeup, which is fun in and of itself, but these wide-ranging topics are interesting too. And I'm wholeheartedly in favor of your doing something on your financial history -- whatever you feel comfortable sharing. Anything that can be done to better educate Americans (particularly women) about financial management is a good thing. You probably have viewers who would be willing to give helpful ideas too. Loved the idea of making your goals manageable and really being honest with yourself as to whether you wanted to commit to them. My own prediction is you will discover more than a few healthy recipes during 2024. Thanks again for keeping us updated.

This was a great video that im finally getting to mid February. My job sucks in January so its hard to embrace the new year mindset. Trying to tell myself its ok to start march 1 if need be or any day for that matter. I have plenty of goals this year. Some home projects like u have and a reading goal as well. Some different things are to do more yoga (my flexibility sucks without yoga), get a will (so morbid but its time), and to read/listen to things to specifically help w self confidence. I have my goals printed out in categories and i hang it on my bathroom door. This way i see them often and when brushing my teeth i try to focus on a section to remind me. Good luck on ur goals!

I love how varied your goals are. Setting goals really makes me think about what's important. I hate monthly subscriptions and rarely if ever buy additional warrantees! They are so hard to get rid of! I'd love for you to share more of your financial insights. Some of my goals are to get rid of clutter in my life, which I am slowly making progress on, and not buy things unless I need them (with few exceptions). I am also trying to connect more with old friends that I have fallen out of touch with. I, too, am self-employed and are trying to set up a schedule regarding writing blogs, updating website, etc. Exercising more and making healthy food choices.

Love this video Michele, it’s very inspiring to listen to you ´think out loud´ when working out the details of your goals. I also do not do resolutions, but I often set myself some keywords for the new year that I should focus on. This year its quality and contentment (I’m Norwegian, so some nuances might be lost when trying to translate). I'm your age and I pretty much have everything I need. When making a decision or considering a purchase etc, I want to focus on fewer, but better additions to my life and also appreciate what I already have.
I do not watch that much you tube, but I watch you. Quality. 😍

Michele, great videos to start off the year. I like your goals and think they are very realistic. I think to pay off your car in a year is a great goal. I can relate to the no debt except maybe mortgage. I think most of us have debt stories from our past or present. I would love to hear about your journey. That would be another great video. I think the 5 new recipes is a good one too. We can all learn some new recipes whether it’s a meal or dessert. You definitely have the working out goal down with going to the various gyms. I find if I don’t make my Pilates appointments and say I’ll work out at home I often times skip. So it holds me accountable by making appointments. Good for you on 5 x with UA-cam, instagram & TikTok. That cannot be easy keeping up with all of those. Really enjoyed this video and has me thinking about my 2024 goals! So thank you! 😊❤️

Like a lot of people who've commented, I've become more and more jaded about the idea of resolutions. I love the idea of SMART goals though- I think you're totally right that resolutions and goals often lack specificity and so are really hard to achieve. And I would love to hear your financial lessons/experiences. I don't think we talk about finances enough and it's always so helpful, especially because there can be a lot of shame around mistakes.

Love the goalsetting and use of SMART! (I use this at work all the time for projects). I suggest doing at least a 1/2 way point review (or, better yet, quarterly). You may find that some goals no longer serve you or are completed, freeing up time/ money for new ones (like Masterclass).

Interesting vlog. I like the distinction between goals and resolutions. My only major goal for this year, so far, is clearing out a lot of my unused clothes and completely reorganizing our storage, everywhere. We are outgrowing our house because there is so much that has accumulated living here for two decades. I am a big believer in the admonition, "Establish, Maintain, Improve Order", so it fits in with my continual search for better ways to organize my extensive belongings, LOL. And maybe start working out on our rowing machine again -- I have fallen down on that. Thanks for reminding me to be specific. 🤩

Michele, I love you! It’s like hearing my own voice, obviously, with a different tone, L O L, as I think things through. I often think about writing things out in a planner, and I’m all into the idea of the goals. Then I kind of get in my own head and think well if I write it down am I going to go back and literally updated and lotta times I start some thing like you were mentioning in your other video and then I get a couple pages in and then I never get back to it. Crazy I know. But I am kind of a goal person and you are making me think that maybe for 2024 I should be revisit this. I love the look of the planner but would like to know where you can get a cover similar to the one that you show.
Also, I’d love to hear about your financial experiences. Actually curious how you got to where you are.
I’m not a tic tok or instagram user. Love UA-cam

I think this is so helpful and made me remember coaching stuff from work. I think master class husband’s goal-unless something for your date night? I also think the fitness journey should have a goal related because such a big life style change and new. I like the blog, Smitten Kitchen for recipes-you’d want to adapt to trainer’s guidelines. And you’ve inspired and reminded me to do this! Yay! And I, too, would love to hear about financial journey. I love your vlogs like this!

This video was a breath of fresh air. I got genuinely and viscerally excited when you said a goal of yours was to post on UA-cam (long form content) 5 times a week.
Many of the creators I watch are now reverting to short form content which I completely understand. I understand the algorithm and the idea of following the trends in content to make a living. Many of them have made their goals this year to focus more on that which is disappointing to me specifically because I am still an avid long form content viewer. I do understand that every situation is different and it may be more valuable for them to convert to short form as they are starting families, etc etc. time with them is unmatched. However, I am curious to see what going against the grain does for you. I believe staying your course and continuing to do what you love will have much more of a positive impact in the future. Staying true to what you love granted it works in your favor usually surpasses the trends. I believe you are setting an example for others that they may not even see yet. I’m very excited for you and your future in all aspects of your goals.

Hi Michele, I love your goals for 2024. You’re like me, I don’t do resolutions but set goals for myself. This year my number goal is to take my life back. The past few years has been about others while neglecting myself so 2024 no more. I’m also continuing with my 2023 goal which was a huge success, which was less Social Media and more reading.
I would love to hear about your financial journey as it sounds similar to mine.
